Never forget Randy did a video on the A-Rig but instead of using swimbaits he had 5 Vision 110's rigged on it. One of his "top secrets". The guy is just a troll looking for views.

  • I'm opposed to live sonar.  And until it comes down in price to something I can convince my wife to let me have, that will remain my position.

  • I'm fine with FFS. I'm sure I'll buy a unit one of these days, maybe soon. I am however, opposed to Randy Blaukat's B.S.

Less fish to eat as well.  Gotta take a bite out of something else if the normal items aren't as abundant on the menu.

LOL. If you have a fast boat, you can go way off and try for a big tiger. You see a Thresher over 400 lbs every so often, hammerheads get big, but they are hard to get to bite up north for some reason, down south much easier, big makos are rare these days. Most winning weights are generally down.

The one I saw win was 570 something tiger. They said it was 1100 lbs to win the year before

Most sharks that bite people do it in error, but bulls, tigers, oceanic whites, and to a lesser degree whites are trying to eat you because they eat pretty much anything. fair is fair, I throw a mako or thresher steak on the grill a couple of times a year.

I tried shark once.  Tasted like a piece of rubber.  You can have them.

I think that 1100 lb tiger was disqualified for getting back to the dock late, but yeah they caught one that big. Tigers have one of the largest mouths of any shark, we probably look like an m&m to one that size...

That 570 was hanging upside down with its guts out its mouth , I guess from being dragged backwards . I’ve got a pic somewhere

Sharks can invert their stomachs out their mouths (and their intestines out their cloacas)

There was a seafood retailer on the east coast a few years ago called "Ms. Paul's Seafood". I had a friend who caught and sold Ms. Paul's sharks that they prepared, packaged, and sold as scallops. People loved Mrs. Paul's scallops. I know I did.

I had scallops last night……. Maybe

I'm not against it, and if I was a multi-millionaire I'd likely have it.  But until then, it would be pretty low on my list.  I think as a serious tournament fisherman today, you either have it or you're at a disadvantage.  As an "over 50" (?) recreational angler, I don't think I would enjoy staring at a screen all day.  Then again, I can see it becoming a pretty addictive tool.

I'm not opposed to it.

I am curious though, I've never used it and my only real experience with it a few youtube videos.  How well can you see the fish if they are sitting on or near the bottom or sitting around vegetation and not moving much?

You can't if they are sucked on the bottom, you could see it this weekend during the Classic when Gussy was Moping on the last day, he'd run a Damiki rig over their heads and then they'd show themselves on the scope.    If they are a bit off the bottom, they'll show up to the trained eye.    Somebody like Milliken or Jones will be able to spot them easily.

Gotcha.  Makes me wonder how many guys pan their live scope, don't see anything and just assume their aren't any fish and move on.  I can be impatient, so I see myself doing that if i had live scope. haha

I think that's what makes guys like Jones and Milliken jedi masters with it verses others, they have an amazing ability to differentiate the species, size, reactions, etc. on the scope.

I'd highly recommend watching Ben Milliken's FFS videos if you haven't.   To me he illustrates peak FFS usage.

I know this is a bass forum.  And I know people are sick of hearing about this.  But it does have some relevance in the tournament realm.  The PMTT has decided to ban live and FFS for this upcoming season.  They can be used during pre-fishing hours.  Here is the message from the director.

Forward Facing "Live" Sonar

As many of you know, we have been researching the Forward Facing Sonar - Live Sonar and other like technology’s use during PMTT tournaments going forward. We not only requested feedback from the PMTT Trail Team members to give their opinions and views but gathered data and information, from across the fishing industry and beyond. We explored other tournaments, tournament circuits, other species and consulted with people throughout the fishing industry.

Everyone at the PMTT is always striving for what’s best for the PMTT, its anglers and the resource, even if the decisions made are not the popular one or the favored opinion and methods. After we compiled all of this information, we then viewed it from several different angles. It was weighed out as to the positives and negatives, its impact either way on the tournaments and playing devil’s advocate with the scenarios, cause and effects with each of these and how they could play out.

While we were equally concerned with what the PMTT anglers wanted, this was also weighed out heavily as to if we are hearing from the vocal minority or the masses with these thoughts and opinions. Through this, we have concluded that going forward, the Forward Facing Sonar - Live Sonar and all other like technology, will not be allowed for use during PMTT tournaments. These will be banned from two hours before the start of the first day of the tournament, until the end of the last day of the tournament.

This decision is for the 2023 PMTT season and not a permanent fixture in the PMTT as it will be re-evaluated throughout each season.

We hope everyone is well and we look forward to seeing everyone on the water!.

Sincerely,

Tim Widlacki

Tournament Director

Well, of course there are still fish, but to consider one species, Pacific bluefin tuna numbers are down 96% and the Great Banks cod population still hasn't rebounded after decades of letting it recover, but to get back to bass, if live sonar increases one's fishing efficacy, bass will become ever more difficult to catch as they're caught and caught and caught. Plus, catching them might become the sport of richer fishers, the ones who can afford the live sonar and the platform to mount it.

I think your small ponds that you carry your canoe into are going to be ok.

Absolutely loving my Livescope. Made my fishing waaaaay more efficient. No more throwing at dead water. Every fish I caught today came in submerged trees  behind (deeper into the lake) where I would have normally had the boat positioned to throw at the bank. Therefore I was never even putting a bait passed these spots.
Some of the spots I thought looked good had nothing there at all. Like nothing as in sand. I 100% would have wasted time in those areas without ffs.

They hide from it in rocks here, or at least that’s what Gustafson was saying during the classic. He never saw them until the lure was descending and they came up off bottom for it

I believe that. I’ve seen that too on this lake. Today I was in a more sandy/submerged tree area with chunk rock on the bank.  But the rock only extended a few feet into the lake in the super shallow. Water visibility was 10-12’. They weren’t up that shallow yet. At least not in the clear water I was in.

Other areas of the lake have huge rocks that they hide in. I can usually swim a bait by a couple times and they’ll show themselves. Then I can pick It apart.
Haven’t done that much yet since I just got ffs.

Pretty cool!

I'm addding it as we speak; or at least buying the parts to put it all together.

I just bought a 106sv

Now I need the lvs32 (wont be able to afford the 34), the GLS, and some sort of pole to mount it on as I don't want it on my TM shaft.

I didn't think I'd want it but now I gotta have it

Just gotta find a deal on some used stuff

I am over 50. I deal with technology in the high end, so computers and etc. are my thing. I have 3 livescopes, 2 in the boat, 1 for shore fishing. I use them in a 50/50 ratio. 50% to find the fish, 50% to see the fish laughing at me. It removes a TON of dead water. However, I can sit with livescope on and be highly entertained with just a worm, split shot and hook right over the side of the boat.

I just bought the 3rd one for shore fishing so i can watch the bluegills swim around in the backyard while I soak a piece of hotdog.

It is either stare at the screen or stare at my rod tips. I choose livescope.
