Gonna need some really deep pockets for this baby. With all the electronics in this bad boy, if will cost a fortune to get it fixed.  As they lighten these and spin the rpm higher and higher, it makes me wonder how many will be around 40-50 years from now like the ole 60-70's outboards are??  Talk about sticker shock !!

The mainanence costs aren't any different than any other new engine on the market today, plus Suzuki engines have always been competitively priced.

That's what everyone was saying about automobiles and trucks a few decades ago.   People still say "they don't make them like they use to" referring to vehicles.  That's true.   In 1970 people drove quite a bit less than they do now.   They averaged 10,000 miles a year.  Their vehicle lasted 10 years, but required a bunch of maintenance.   Choke adjustments in the spring and fall.  Spark plugs, points, cap. rotor and wires every year and oil changes every 3000 miles.   At 100,000 miles the engine were worn out.  They would be woofing out smoke and burning oil.  The cylinder walls in the block would be worn out.  Modern vehicles get driven many more miles, use less gas, require oil changes at 5,000 to 10,000 miles instead of 3000.   Most don't require any kind of other maintenance until 100,000 miles.

The only thing modern boat motors have against them is the longevity of old 2 strokes.  They would last a long time,  longer than a comparable automobile engine.

I'm an auto tech.  I keep an eye on marine developments though.   IMHO Suzuki has always made an excellent boat motor with cutting edge (for marine use) technology.    My boat came packaged with a Mercury engine.  (many do) I've got over 200 hours with zero problems.  However, had I been able to choose my engine I would have gotten a Suzuki.

Hard habit to kick ?

I had a Suzuki on my last boat and loved it.  I would not hesitate a minute to get another one.

Competatively priced means we have jacked up our prices to meet everyone elses !!!!  Just like gas stations, racing to see who can raise theres first!!

I would never hesitate to but a Suzuki, not calling them bad in any way....  Just a reference to all new high priced outboards !!

When I graduated HS, I had a good job and bought my self a new car, a hotrod, loaded with everything, performance engine and you name it...4800.00 out the door.  Dropped of my grandson and his car for service, so thought I would browse, window shop at a similiar car compared to my first new one..  78000.00. !!!!  I was making good money back then at 5 bucks an hour, above avg pay....today I would need over 80 per hour to compete!!  Back then a full service, lube, oil filter and std tuneup was about 70.00.  According to my grandson's car service mgr, that average service today is about 800.00....  Nothing wrong with new technology but at what price???

Now this just doesn’t make sense to me.
Please don’t take any offence to this, but have you not purchased literally anything lately?
You say that car you bought right out of high school was $4800. You have a grandson that his old enough to drive, so that right there tells me either you had kids when you were like 12, or it’s been a few years since you graduated high school.
I’m 43, and I can remember as a kid buying penny candy, and chocolate bars for less than a quarter, they’re much more than that now.
I’m not saying things are all rosy, my current truck was $62000 sticker price when I bought it three years ago, and currently they want over $80G for the same one today, and things have gotten a bit crazy the last couple years for sure, but overall everything on this planet has gotten more expensive when you look at the prices compared to pretty much anytime in the past, especially the further back you go.

I bought a new Suzuki king quad fuel injected 700 in 2007, it's been bullet proof, trouble free.

Suzuki has been doing 4-strokes for roughly 30 years and have a great track record.

Would love to take this engine for a spin.

I have a DF140 on the back of my boat, bought it new in 2015. It’s been by far the best, most reliable outboard I’ve ever owned and I’ve had most of them over the years. Sips fuel, has an amazing amount of low and mid range torque, is super quiet and very minimal maintenance. I’m quite certain there’ll be a lot more fish pics in here well  into the future of me with the ole zuke in the background.

You know reliability is important when you fish that big wide open water of the Great Lakes. I bet that’s why I see tons of those engines in salt water marinas too

IMO the only drawback to the engine is the low gear ratio when all the rest are 1.75.  Most available props are too short for the Suzuki.

Yes, I see how expensive things have gotten, no wonder the average worker is in deep debt, with prices rising faster than income, what lies ahead??  Just making a point that to some or mavey many of us the new technology may not be worth the cost !!  New vehickes are suppised to save you money, so the claims are being made, but are they really ??

Sorry if I ticked on anyones parade, by the way I am 73 sorry no kids at age 12 !!
