UPDATE!!! SORRY EVERYONE but Photobucket wants me to spend 399 dollars to host my pictures...I just refuse to do that!  You can still check the pics out with this link: http://s709.photobucket.co

  • Picked up my bass raider 3 or 4 months ago and I absolutely love it.  I did a bunch of mods including a casting deck and the deck is rock solid.  It's 3x more stable on my deck than standing in some o

I ordered my Raider 10E today it should be here next week. Gathered a lot of info on here can’t wait to customize it and get out fishing on the small lake behind our house. I’m sure I will be back with ?? Most of the time we can’t get out on the big lakes due to time constraints with working and as a nurse during this crisis I need to have a way to relax on my off days. Everyone stay safe. Thanks for all of the great ideas

Recently got a Pelican Bass Raider 10E and had the common issue mentioned by others of the back end trying to swing around to the front where I'm sitting with a front mounted trolling motor. Looked at some rudder options here and around the web to get some ideas. Built a functional one from 3/4 PVC parts, Walmart 11*14 cutting board and a Minn Kota #2771818 TM mount that was about $35 on ebay.  Made a big improvement in the boat tracking without any noticeable tendency to swing around. It is not overly original but might be worth sharing as a reference for someone else. Don't think will ever not use it now.

Anyone know where or how I would be able to mount A Minn Kota on board battery charger on my bass raider? It has a custom deck on it that I built, I’ll post some pics thanks!

Also the charger I have is model MK106D. It’s a 6 amp and my trolling motor is a 45 lbs thrust, I haven’t gotten a battery yet either if anyone has any suggestions, I’d appreciate it.

I glued mine to the front of the boat under the trolling motor mount (it was dead space).    In the picture below, it is to the right of the Garmin depthfinder, directly under the mount.  It looks like you may have the same space available there as well.

I added the same kind of connector the trolling motor has that plugs into the boats internal wiring that goes from the front of the boat back to the battery.  When the boat is being used, the trolling motor is plugged into the outlet.  When charging, the on-board charger is.

That’s a good idea I didn’t think about that, I was thinking it would have to be in the back with the battery. Thank you!

I had the same problem but I solved it much differently. I normally fish my Raider solo and my solution to the sliding was simple. I have a group 29 battery that is in the stern. I simply scooted my chair to the rear. The weight of the battery and my 270lbs puts the stern lower in the water. To solve the reach issue to the trolling motor I use two shop vac tubes as a TM handle extension. I also added a Bigfoot switch so I can bump the power on and off.  By the way nice design on the rudder. If I ever upgrade to a bigger TM I'll keep my little 32 on the back for a rudder.

I am still reading this thread but wanted to go ahead and ask.

Have any of y’all towed the Pelican or equivalent with a Prius or sedan?

Both my wife’s car and my car are 4 door sedans, neither of which is rated for towing. Prius folks are divided on whether to tow or not with the car. It seems like it can be done but not recommended.  I’m not too thrilled at the prospect of putting the boat on the roof of either car.

I may have to get a road-worthy truck if I want a boat.

I wouldn't tow it with the prius. I would get a small truck it can go in the back or a small trailer.

For those that haul the 10e in the bed of the truck, would you feel comfortable taking it on longer trips? Something like a 6 or 8 hour drive.

First thought was to look at rangers or Tacomas.

shouldn't be a problem get some ratchet straps and tie it in good and check it so often and go for it

My 10 acre lake has large-chunk rip-rap all around it.  I am trying to figure out a way to launch the bass raider 10E without damaging the bottom of the boat.  Does anyone have a solution with some sort of matting or something to place over the rocks?  I will be launching from my own property, so I don't have to worry about transporting the matting, or whatever the solution is.  Thanks.

The first thing that comes to mind is a sheet or two of plywood.  You might have to anchor the top corners so they don't slide with the boat.

For a long term solution, is it possible to pour some concrete into some of the rip rap to create a mini-ramp?

I guess I could do concrete, but was looking for something cheaper and not so invasive.  As for the plywood, wouldn't that be too rigid?  Seems it would tilt back and forth on the rocks too much?  What I really thought would work is the type of material used in say, plastic car floor mats, but I can't imagine how you come up with a sheet of material like that which is large enough for this purpose.

One other question.  My boat is on order, and I have not received it.  I still need to buy a trolling motor...should I get a 36 inch or 42 inch shaft?

36 is long enough.

Does anyone know how delivery of the bass raider from cabelas work? Do they have to arrange a day to deliver at your convenience?

Where did you order the boat from?

Just picked up a Sun Dolphin Sportsman 8. With the company going out of business and the Bass Raider 8 being discontinued I figured this was my last shot at an 8 footer in this type of boat.

Just found this thread and looking forward to reading all ... 123 PAGES?!!?!?!?!?

Sun Dolphin going out of business??? I hadn't heard that, where did you see it? Might be some good deals on the 10 footer.

Plants in Muskegon, MI closing - DSG canceled orders for kayaks...seems they're having problems.

All the opposite from what I've seen.

My DSG order actually got cancelled :(

DSG...? Not familiar with the initials.

Dick's Sporting Goods

Also Field and Stream carries (carried?) them - F&S owns DSG

Just as an aside - the Field & Stream Scout canoe (14' square stern) carried by DSG and F&S is actually a relabeled Sun Dolphin Scout SS.

OH...OK, don't have one around here. I think I've seen them in Kansas City when visiting the kids.

New member but been reading and using a lot of your great ideas. Just curious on if anyone has ever added outriggers. I am a large guy and I tend to uhh wobble.  I think I have read almost every page here and haven't seen a mention of it.
