Heat

@Bankbeater speaking of thick veggies, that’s where my fish may have gone. A couple fish I got today punching may have clued me in. For the longest time, the fish on Stillhouse have been around hard stuff. Rock and wood and the like. They seem to have switched over to preferring to be deep in the grass. For how long? Remains to be seen. I could be punching and frogging for the whole next month. We’ll see

I got only one fish over two trips this weekend while it was still dark.

    here's why!!

  • I grew up in the construction industry so I'm very familiar with being in the heat. When it comes to bass fishing I would rather not!    Another huge plus for night fishing is I seldom see o

My special life skill is being able to chop wood, cut grass, and move furniture in oppressive heat and humidity. Bring it on (also I don’t live in TX)

The ‘heat’ arrived much later than usual this year, and it’s been a little less intense than usual too.

On the other hand, my 18 year old refrigerator quit at the beginning of the month. And then, on my way home with my new fridge, the clutch was on my car’s a/c compressor decided it would go on strike as well. I haven’t had a chance to fix that yet. The steering wheel gets so hot when I am parked at work, I have to use rags or gloves to hold onto it.

I would fish early and/or later in the day, but the fishing the past few weeks (after being other-worldly good previously) has been absolutely abysmal.

I normally find summers very enjoyable overall. The jury is still out on this one.

I always tow slow. Heat wont make much difference

What’s slow to you?

Greetings,

It is a toaster out here in Arizona. I happened to make a trip up to the Phoenix metro area on Saturday. Just after mid-day it was well over 113 F in the shade, even hotter in the full sun. You have to be careful as the heat will cause problems. Still, it is possible to recreate and catch bass. Here is one canal bass caught in the early afternoon. It just happens to be my first bass on my new reel. My story is posted in the reel section of the forum.

Lots of fun to put the reel under load and confirm everything works as it should. Even more fun using light gear.

The heat is a serious issue so be prepared or simply avoid exposure. So let's be careful out there.

However, it is always a good time to go fishing, even better to go catching! Be well and Cheers!

Other than taking a couple of casts during my Fishing with the GM program at my hotel, either I have made every excuse NOT to fish or I haven't been motivated.

Tops on my list is the heat, so I considered night fishing. But with my kayak stored at the hotel I dread going in because I'll just get sucked in to work.

--HOWEVER--

I received my Malone kayak trailer on Friday and put it together this weekend. On Monday I'm going to take a break from work and get it registered. Then hopefully later this week my Covercraft cover arrives and I'll be bringing my kayak home. Saturday later afternoon I should be heading to Lake Sinclair to try out a few spots in the daylight, then maybe head back early, early, early Sunday morning.

Mid to upper 90's coming our way this week ?.

Setting the clock for 3 am to avoid heat stroke while fishing.

I know, southern people are laughing at 90's.

Alright y’all that’s it. I’ve had enough of this heat. I’ve been looking forward to fishing this weekend but I am not looking forward to the hot. I thought I was gonna be fine handling it. I was wrong.

The solution I came up with is to focus on the extreme wee hours of the morning. I’ll look to hit the water around 3 AM tomorrow. That way my sleep schedule doesn’t do a complete 180 but I can still get some cool hours of fishing in.

Ventilated Bucket hat my brotha, seems silly but the same way alot of our heat escapes through the top of our heads in the winter so we wear toboggans, heat needs to be able to escape in the heat.

Adding to this, I just got a mission brand sun hat that cools you when it's wet. I wore it to Dollywood during 102 real feel and it worked great. Highly recommend. I got it on prime day for under $20. Definitely my new fishing hat.

When guiding before they came out with cooling towels, I bought 4 synthetic chamois called the absorber from Walmart.  Dip them in a cooler or lake water and drape over the neck and it is amazing how much cooler you will feel.  It’s like a portable air conditioner.  Saved a lot of summer guide trips.
