Light Wire 4/0-5/0 Worm Hooks

Featured Replies

Looking for a light wire worm hook to use with big, 10in.+, worms.  I lost a beauty the other night. My worm came back balled up with only the tip of the hook making it through all the plastic. The nose of the worm didn't slip down the hook, the worm was just in a ball for the first 6in. or so.  I was using a 5/0 round bend worm hook that is made of fairly thick gauge wire and I'm convinced that a lighter wire hook would have penetrated all that plastic. In all my years of fishing big worms, I've only had this happen a couple of times, but if I can eliminate the possibility of loosing what could be my next PB when it does happen, I'll sleep a lot easier.

Roboworm rebarb works for me.

Trokar would be worth a try

Mustad Straight Shank Round Bend!

3/0

Wire dia. .052 in

Gap 17 mm

4/0

Wire dia .056in

Gap 18.7 mm

5/0

Wire dia 0.06in

Gap 20.4 mm

Not light wire but not a punch hook either. The "gap" is the measurement from the hook point to the shank.

I just grabbed a single pack of 4/0 Owner Cover shot hooks.  super super sharp.  I hope to use them on a weightless something.

straight shanks hooks just seem to never miss a bass's lips for me.    on a big fat 10" worm, give the Owner Haymaker a look.  I bet a 6/0 hook would be the perfect ticket.

sorry about the heartcrushing loss of a fish.  I get it.

I like the Gamakatsu Offset Shank Round Bend, nice balance between lighter wire and stoutness.  I don’t use them with braid though.  I also bend the hook point up a little to help with hookup ratio.

I also like the gamakatsu oshaunessy offset worm hook.

I’m a recent convert to the Gammy G-finesse hybrid worm hook. So far perfect hook up ratio w/ 8-12” worms on a M+ rod w/ 16lb leader.  5/0 is a big hook, larger than most.
