Only problem was, I had fished for hours with my actual muskie setup, and I took a break from it, picked up my Loomis Imx Pro Bass rod (7'6 MH) cast da mepps and wham.

Congrats!

I've caught dozens of muskies on bass-sized tackle, including a #5 Mepps.

You don't need big stuff to catch them.

I'm not terribly fond of seeing that fish laying on a wooden dock though...

Congratulations!  A good sized muskie is a lot of fun on bass tackle.

There is an episode of River Monsters when Jeremy Wade is at Eagle Lake, Ontario. He muskie fishes for almost 2 weeks with nothing but small pike to show for it. His body is exhausted and his mental status is fatigued. He finally just gives up, and goes trout fishing with a medium spinning setup to gain some confidence back. Only then does he hook into nearly a 4 foot muskie and miraculously lands it.

ya that was the instant I got him out of the water. he was protected by the wet net and safely released. he took off like a torpedo.
