DEPS_250
Has anyone in here ever used/experienced the used gear trade in program from americanlegacyfishing.com? I have 3 rods that I want to get rid of since they are just taking up space and since I rarely use them. I am also finding it hard to sell them on here, on other fishing forums and even on craigslist. I want to sell them ASAP in order to receive funds for other tackle that I am wanting. If anyone in here has used the used gear trade in program from americanlegacyfishing.com, do you know if they pay for the shipping and handling of your rods in order to get your used rods to americanlegacyfishing.com? Or is that something you are going to have to pay up front first/out of your own pocket? Also, does anyone know if 3 rods can fit inside of a Tacklewarehouse rod tube? I understand its probably going to be a 'tight squeeze', since I remember seeing a couple posts in this forum in the past about shipping rods in a Tacklwarehouse rod tube and IIRC, some people have stated that they were able to fit 3 rods inside of a Tacklewarehouse rod tube. JN94
ALF is great. No issues purchasing or selling them items. Just keep in mind they only buy items at a discount. So if you're fine with leaving a little money on the table in order to get rid of something, they are a great resource to have.
ironbjorn
I buy from and sell to them frequently. The caveat is that I'm of little help to you since I live close and go directly to their store. I can say that you get fair prices when trading in, and they accurately judge the condition of the products. Of course they can't on the water test things like reels to truly get a feel for how it's working, and they can't hookset with a rod to tell if it will snap or not from being abused even though it might look to be in great condition. I've never had a problem with them though.
Tom Orr
Yes. They email you the shipping label/labels. Where I ship from they copy the label from my phone and put it on the tube. Don't know if 3 rods will fit in one tube, but 2 will for sure. I've used their trade-in program several times. Very good company to deal with.
softwateronly
I've purchased their used rods 5-6 times and received what I expected or better condition each time. I only sold to them once, in person, and received @ 80-85% of what I would have listed them at. The convenience was well worth it and I was selling rods that are not high end, so their market was limited from my pov. scott
Zcoker
I ordered a used Dobyns Champion XP rod for a fraction of the cost new. They have them classified according to condition. The rod I purchased was listed as "excellent condition". I received the rod in just a few days in a nice American Fishing rod tube. And the rod inside was basically brand new! I mean, their "excellent condition" rating was far above and beyond. Totally satisfied! Seems like they buy/sell the used stuff rather quickly. That was my only experience with them related to their used products. If you're still having doubts about buying or selling, I'd just give them a call and voice your concerns. I'm sure they'll clarify things for you.
mrpao
I purchase used items from them multiple times before with good results. I've on traded rods to them once and wasn't too pleased with my experience. Probably would've been a better experience if I lived close to the store, where i could of just walked in. Anyway, it took over three weeks after the rods arrived there and multiple emails to get some of the credit that was agreed upon. It seems like I never got credit for two of the rods but I didn't sweat it, since I'm always buying from them.
FrnkNsteen
I have only sold anything to them once, and brought them to the store with me. I have bought TONS of used items from them though. In all the items I have bought used from them, only twice were there any issues. One was a Daiwa spinning reel that was listed as a Ballistic MQ that turned out to be the older Ballistic LT. I'm sure they would have sent me a shipping label and took it back but the price was good either way so I kept it. The other was a rod that showed up at my local USPS broken in half (As in the whole shipping tube was snapped in half). I called them and they had a shipping label emailed to me before we even got off the call. They didn't even wait for the broken rod to arrive and instantly credited me with a gift card so I could get something else. Bottom line,... They are great to deal with. In my opinion.... If your stuff isn't the most popular stuff that will sell quick, they seem to discount your trade-ins a bit much. My Ducketts I traded in were in mint condition, but I got around 30% of new and they listed them again for about 80% of new. Not knocking them though. They have to cover their costs if they don't sell right away and the burden is on them. I usually buy when they have their used stuff on 15-20% off like now. Condition is ALWAYS as they describe. I like to drive down and wade through the used stuff. They typically have more stuff in the store than on the site and it can be fun to see what you can find. Found a couple old school Fenwick Techna AV that were pretty much spotless and cheap! 😁
LonnieP
I like ALF and have have great service ordering stuff from them, but don’t expect to get paid much for your gear if you want to trade. I asked about trading in a rod that was only used once. I think they offered me around 35 percent of what the rod cost new.
RichF
They’re running a special on their Elite membership program - I believe you get a $50 credit when you purchase it (for $50). As a member, you’ll get free shipping labels for trades and a 10% boost on the trade value itself. You’ll also earn 10% back in points to use on the site. It’s a great deal. Just remember it’ll auto-renew after a year, so cancel if you need too (I just re-upped).
GReb
The time I reached out for a quote they offered $80 for a $250 rod and said I had to pay $15 shipping on top of that. Unless it’s a high end product from Shimano or Loomis don’t expect a competitive offer. 35% of msrp seems normal and but if it’s not a popular brand it will be less because they can’t turn it around. For instance I had a like new smoke pt spinning reel that sells for well over $100 and they offered $10 because demand was too low. However I have bought prob 10 or so used rods and reels from them over the years and been satisfied with most.
Fishingbuddy520
Yes 3 rods will fit 2 one way 1 the other just be careful all the guides need to face the middle and they have to be rapped first before you put them in the tube it’s a great program and if you become an Elite Member shipping is free both ways. Do it they’re a great company. And no I don’t and never have worked there I’ve done this a lot.
QuirkyCarp2000
I have tried to sell a Daiwa Tatula baitcaster reel that was in mint condition. It was never used and it was still in the original box and everything. They are normally sold for $160 to $180. They offerd me $50. I don't think I can accept a offer that is a 1/3 of retail price for a new condition reel.

Super User F14A-B Posted October 8 Super User Share Posted October 8 I live 100 miles away. They have a slew of kids working there. I’ve been there a dozen times, they are lost with customer service via email. Always call, they have some good folks there and some buttheads. I’ve bought 4 Loomis rods from them this year.2 Edge rods, A Kistler which was returned and it took a month to get my credit card refunded. All in all I would still recommend them. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the USPS delivery on rod tubes is terrible. I’ve had 3 ‘this year broke completely in two and were haphazardly taped back together again by postal service and yet some how not a scratch on my rods.. go figure. Seems to be between Evansville & Louisville but I talk to them routinely and they say between Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee they have the worst delivery issues. Lost tubes, broken tubes/rods etc. of course that’s not on ALFC, just a little warning concerning the mail service. Also they will not take in store branded rods or reels. Happy shopping.
Eric 26
I’m not sure how or why this post has been resurrected but I was able to sell a mint condition SLX for $65.00 and a mint condition BPS Carbonlite 2 combo to my local shop last year for $85.00. I didn’t mind the beating on the combo as I only paid $120.00 when I purchased it. My point is it’s worth a call if you have a local shop closer to you.
