Harvesting Bass

I think you, me, and @Deephaven should all get together for a pike outing and then have a big meal of slimy little pike when we’re done. We can talk about lures wrecked and lost over the years from those devils.

In the voice of one of those 90's movies narrators

"deep in the woods on a cabin up north, a group gets together for a weekend of fishing, its a cold dark evening, theyve heard the stories of whats happened on that lake in the past, and they hear a noise, somethings splashing in the water, the drag is peeling on the reel, they realize they are surrounded by pike. Several Jackhammers and a box of Megabass jerkbaits that are half the price of a car missing 1 wheel later.

They decide its time to bite back. DUH DUH DUH"

  • Hard Pass on eating Bass ~ It's not too bad tasting IMO, there are just too many other species up here that a far better table fair. While I Love the Trout, I only bump into them during earl

  • Exactly 💯    My wife & kids ask why I don't keep some for a fish fry. I answer, y'all want me to catch em, clean em, cook em, while y'all sit around & enjoy em!   Too many

I'll let you and Sean have the eats - I tried pike one time....never again.

From cold water they are good.  Summer slime not so much.

Northern pike is excellent eating!
white flaky meat. Slimy? True

full of bones? True

but if you learn how to clean them, excellent table fare.
also great pickled, then no worry about the bones

I'm a under 3lbs Spotted Bass's worst nightmare. Once home I can turn 10 into 20 boneless fills in 15 minutes.

While I Love the Trout, I only bump into them during early season C & R,

so back they go.

My go to is walleye, big fan.

Just over keeper size offers some sweet meat.

Coincidentally, Possession season opens - tomorrow.

Think if I did a "Shore Lunch" in someone's lake front property they'd get upset ?

I'd be happy to share and clean up when I was done.
