I plan on fishing an  open hook jig worm this coming season. I can usually fish this rig for 5 or 6 weeks early in the season. After that, I usually have to use a weedless worm rig.                   I've used the jig worm rig for several years, always with a ball head jig. I want to try a mushroom head to start out with this year. The worms I'm using will be Zoom Finesse worm, Mr. Twister 4" Ringworm, and 4" Roboworms.                                                       There are several of these heads on the market now. I'm looking at several heads. Some heads offer different hook sizes also.                                                                      My question is: what is your favourite mushroom jig head, and what hook do you like with 4"-5" plastic worms.            

Siebert Outdoors Morel Heads are my favorite. 

@Siebert Outdoors morel and morel xl heads are great. Buy his stuff so he stops buying grills from Temu. 

My favorite is the Midwest Finesse head.  I carry it in 5 sizes with #2, 1, and 1/0 hooks from various companies.

I'm thinking 1/0 hook, and weight of 1/16 and 1/8.

I kind of got away from the open hook jigs. I would snag them on wood so often it felt like a waste of time and money.  So I started using the Block Head Jigs from Owner, 1/8oz with a 1/0 hook. 

 

I’ve gone to that type of head also.  I switched after loosing 15 Neds in Piney creek one morning.  After I got the new mold I went back and fished the same water and only lost 2.

How is the hookup ratio with those ? You are using light line?

These are the ones I use. You will lose

The hookup is as good as it was with the other heads.  I am using 15# braid to 8# fluorocarbon leader.

This. I fished an entire afternoon on the same Draggin' Ned hook, just replacing baits as they got chewed up. That has NEVER happened dragging/hopping neds before - I'm usually good for snagging and losing a few.

I like using jig worm in the fall on those days when they dont want to eat anything.  I use a 4" worm, bubbling shaker, hit worm, cutdown airtail wiggler or Robowom straight tail fat.  I usually fish them in the last of live submergent grass and for that I favor a 1/16 owner darter head with a #1 or 1/0 hook, but ill use mushroom heads, like the blockhead and halfhead, but the weight is always light usually 1/16 or 1/32 no heavier than 3/32.  I want the weight light enough, so it doesn't bury itself in the grass.  Having a small lightwire hook is just enough to grab the grass, but easy to rip free with a light rod.

Never understood why everyone likes this head shape so much.

For me it’s because of the Elaztech TRDs that I use.  A drop of superglue gel keeps them attached to the jig head.
