Bands you love but your spouse hates....

So I'm sure there are multiple bands that you like but your better half doesn't really care for and vice versa. But how about one that you love that  they can't stand? This comes to mind because I was just in the car the other night with my wife...I asked if I could listen to Steely Dan, which I love, and she says oh god no those guys suck. How about you guys and gals?

As a frequent listener of heavy metal and punk, she hates most bands I love 😂

It’s ok though, I find the music she listens to to be mostly insufferable as well.

When I play music from the library on my phone, especially when we are in the car, I always put it on shuffle. She’s ok with most everything I have, but if something comes on I know she doesn’t like, I just skip that tune.

Not a band, more of a genre. My wife likes 80’s, early 90’s rap. Other than possibly Kid Rock I would rather listen to fingernails on a chalkboard. As for her dislikes, I really enjoy old blues music. She’s not a fan.

Thankfully we both like country, blue grass, red dirt and classic rock so there’s always something to listen to.

Nora is still into current pop - what I call 'kiddie pop....I'd rather listen to Classical

Me - Symphonic Metal out of Europe. (Delain, Epica, Nightwish, Within Temptation and Xandria are my mainstay groups). She' cringes when ever I put some on loud.

Backup is classic rock...at least she can stand that.

I know I'll get 'dinged' by a lot of people here - but I absolutely DETEST country. Like you with Rap, pal....fingernails on a chalkboard would be preferable. (runs and hides)

my wife universally loves all music.

I am the bottleneck.  :D

My wife is all about the Bee Gees, Eagles and Van Morrison so the other night I played some Dua Lipa......no go. 😁

to be clear.  my wife sometimes listens to music sung in another language alltogether.

me:  "is that French?"

Me:  "since I am driving, doesnt that make me the DJ?"

"okay, is Mexican rap better?"

Pretty much everything I listen to. She likes pop and country and I'm a die hard metalhead

We only listen to christian music. I like Kutless among others, including some bluegrass. We mostly get along on music. She doesn't care for Petra.

This is one of my favorites... and hers. My momma would have hated it though. She hated country, and especially bluegrass.

Favorite Kutless song.

My wife hates this Petra song.

kinda in a similar vein I played Captain Beefheart for her once and she was horrified. Velvet Underground got a similar response.

I played safe as milk for her which is nuts but tame compared to Trout mask ...still think she's scarred for life.

I like female voices and have quite the play list. My wife doesnt care for a lot of it.

My wife:  The Carpenters, John Denver, Anne Murray, etc...

Me: Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Motorhead, Deep Purple, etc...

Our old LP's and newer CD's cannot co-exist on the same CD rack.  It's a rule! LOL! 😆

Ive been listening to Mr. Bungle for years. Michael Patton definitely explored his more "Creative" side with the Bungle albums. :D

Idk what genre you listen to but Lzzy Hale from Halestorm has a great voice if you like rock.

Just about all of my music is music most people I know dont have a taste for. Rock, Metal and Heavy Metal. Disturbed, Slipknot, Halestorm, Korn, Hollywood Undead, Nonpoint, Motionless in White, Shinedown, In this Moment, Motley Crue, Aerosmith, Guns n Roses, etc. etc.

@Functional oh man I forgot all about Nonpoint.

I am surprised no one mentioned 4 non-blonds. I know they are no longer together, but man were they good. Also...where are the Heart fans. Ann Wilson is THE best female vocalist in rock. And Nancy can shred a guitar with the best of them.

@Functional I’m totally in step with your music tastes and don’t forget that not only does Lizzy Hale have a killer voice but she absolutely shreds on the guitar as well. I will also agree with you and @Jar11591 about Nonpoint and I usually wind up playing Breaking Skin when I feel the need to release some tension 🤘🏻 As far as my wife goes she’s pretty cool with whatever I like and we usually take turns playing whatever we want when we’re in the car for a longish trip such as picking up my daughter from college. I should also add I’ll listen to quite a wide variety of music but hard rock is pretty much my go to.

Seen Lzzy's vocal for a Lindsey Stirling piece?
