Be careful with your tennis elbow. Left untreated it could ruin your elbow. It happened to me. I haven’t fished in 18 months. I needed a few surgeries to correct my severe tendon elbow. My elbow is still healing. I just been buying lots of tackle waiting to get better.

Oh wow! Serisoily? That’s not good at all. I went to the doctor. He said rest. Which I can stop fishing but can’t stop work lol. And I could try a steroid pack as well

@Joedodge injuries don’t magically heal if you keep exacerbating the problem. I had to take time off from fishing in 2022-2023 due to a shoulder injury. It helped me recover. I was able to learn a lot

@Joedodge Try these exercises daily for your elbow pain. They have always worked for me especially the first two.

After golfer elbow surgery and then tennis elbow surgery the exercises you listed are exactly what PT had me do. I still do the stretching exercises.

That’s also good to hear. How bad was the surgery? That’s what they say I have is golf/tennis elbow

We're the same age @Joedodge. Take some time off on that injury. We're still young by the long view standard, but our body isn't healing like it used to. I've found I need longer downtime than I'm comfortable admitting to myself, and I consider myself a very active and healthy dude.

Also. This hobby is supposed to be fun! Kick back and recharge if you're feeling like it's a grind -- beyond just the health reasons.

I’ve had both of my shoulders repaired. Thanks a lot Army. My right was a complete cluster. I tore everything, pulled the labrum and had a tear and tore ligaments. My left was a little better. No ligament tear.

i didn’t have full surgery, but I talked about it with my ortho.  It would have been 3-6 months of recovery after.  Because of the level of damage I had (or didn’t have) I was a good candidate for PRP and TENEX which are less invasive.  With PRP they use your own plasma and platelets, concentrate them in a centrifuge, and then reinject them into the injury site.  The recovery was 3 days of ‘do nothing’ followed by 2 weeks of stretching and light use.  Then it was 4 more weeks of gradual easing it back into my routines (gym, housework, fishing, etc).  It was 4-6 weeks before I could use a baitcaster again.  TENEX is more intense and is like a sonic needle that blasts out the scar tissue.  It is more of a 3-4 month total recovery but it is a more proven technique and insurance will usually pay for it (they did not pay for my PRP).

The last two weeks in Iowa have sucked that’s for sure.

Heat, humidity, rain, flash floods, ugh.

I’m REALLY hoping August won’t be like the last couple of weeks.

Otherwise I’m ready for September.

I have a ton of vacation to use this fall.

Can’t wait for cooler water and temps.

Get the operation, you will heal faster than any steroid injection will last or pt. Use your vacation time to heal and you should be out of work 21 days and when back at work baby it untill you feel comfortable to put more stress on it.

The fish will be there when you're straightened out. Be smart and rest it.

I had to have my tendon on each side reattached, but one side was done well before the other side started to hurt which was 6 years later for the other side surgery. Before the surgeries my elbow hurt so bad as i was a mechanic that i couldnt shift the gears in my service truck or twist the doorknob of my home to open the door.

You hit that right on the head. August here I think is brutal and I’m from Florida lol. I’m ready for September and October honestly. Bring on the nice cool fall weather before we are stuck inside.

I mean that’s a great plan just won’t exactly work for me right now lol. Surgery wil be last resort.

Tennis elbow (Lateral Epicondylitis) treatment is rest, PT, pain relievers, steroids. Surgery isn’t a common treatment.

Take the month off and rest.

I was a gymnast from age 12 to 22 and managed to do a lot of tendon and skeletal damage, not to mention racing and competitive water skiing.

If you want to heal reducing inflammation is critical. Being a youngster it was no pain no gain…wrong wrong wrong!

Oddly my elbows are in good condition at age 82! Proper bait casting technique helps!

If your pain is high get a steroid shot to relieve the inflammation and reduce down time.

Oh wow. Man you’ve done a lot of cool stuff!! That’s literally what my doctor said. I think I’m gonna get a steroid pack and take it easy besides work. I’ve been wearing a brace. If anything. This deal has really shown me my bad casting form with a baitcaster. And helped me improve it. I can tell instantly if I have a reel set up to tight, or I’m having an off casting day. On a good day pain free besides minor ache. Otherwise if I’m messing up it’s awful lol

Always spinning tackle! Bait casting Keep your pointed towards your ear and your wrist in lieu of arm, it’s fishing not baseball.

No just to rest your elbow and still be able to fish.

Ohhh yeah that’s actually a pretty good idea. I love my jigs. But considered just throwing spinning gear wacky and nail weight rigs

Since I’m VA, we like to be experimented on. Not really, but that’s the joke anyway. That said, my last treatment for my tennis elbow was stim therapy that was also ultrasound medication delivery. It was very beneficial to me. I recommend it if you look into it. Probably a Physical Therapist's office will do it. It was a VA OT (occupational therapist) that did mine.

Sucks about the elbow, but fish still have to eat. I caught my biggest of the day today in 3’ of 86* at 11:47AM with slick calm conditions, sunny, super humid, and 88*.

Man that sucks. I have been dealing with some CTS, but I've found that if I cast using both hands, it alleviates the problem. So perhaps finding a new method will help you to heal and continue to fish a limited amount.

Sides, you don't have to fish every day... lol. That sounds exactly like something my wife would say to me.
