Your favorite drop shot rig and "Goby" color minnow, and line! Fyi, here's mine

Featured Replies

😁 Hi all, I've been drop shotting since it got popular! Aaron Martens got me Hooked πŸ˜† I have 2 rigs I use #1 aΒ  Dobyns Fury series "702" spinning rod with 6lb Stren blue mono, I haven't gotten into the flouro craze yet, #2 is my recently purchased Diawa Zillion 7ft 3" regular power spinning rod with a size 2000 Regal 6.2. To 1 reel, same line, I had this rod out yesterday, my Dobyns might sit for a while! This is a nice rod, it has a longer handle and very sensitive. I use gamakatsu split shot, drop shot hooks #2. I'll use Berkeley Flatworms, Strike King clamshell, Robo worms, and a new drop shot bait by Great Lakes company thier 3.5" Goby colored minnow. Sorry for my long winded post! Your favorite?

My favorite is a 6’6” Gary Yamamoto β€œDropshot” with a 2500 Sedona on it. 10lb Sufix braid, 10 ft 8lb fluoro leader.

Sadly, it’s getting old and close to retirement with cracking epoxy, and the EVA grips hardened.

Β

Second is a 6’10” 13 Fate ML. Currently got a cheap Source X 300 size on it, 10lb Fireline (still deciding whether or not I like it) and 10’ fluoro leader.

Β

Hooks, weights and baits all vary, but most common starting point is an 1/8 oz sinker, #1 Gamakatsu hook and a 4” 5150 worm. Β

I use 2 Exprides for my dropshotting- a 6 foot 8 and a 7 foot 2

I use Vanford reels (2500) with 10 pound braid and 8 pound fluoro leader (7 foot)Β

Β

Baits vary but mostly small goby like.Β  I use 3/8 and 1/2 oz weights.

Β

I use No 1 hooks Aaron Martens Gamakatsu

favorite setup is a 6" roboworm non fat on a size 1 owner cover shot and a 3/16 skinny sinker.

~.2mm braid to 8lb YZH leader.

I've had good luck with the berkley flat worms but I don't fish an open hook often.

If I was looking for a goby imitation I'd take a look at the xzone stealth invader

rods/reels Fury 702/Miravel 2500 and Champ extreme 702/Exsence 2500

I use a NRX+ 842 SJR with a Daiwa Emeraldas Air 2500. I like PE 1.2 YGK Upgrade with 10lb Seaguar Gold Label. For hooks I use a #1 Gamakatsu G Finesse Swivel Shot or a Decoy Masubari. My favorite baits are the Berkley Flat Worm and a Roboworm.Β

I have a set group of baits that are standard DS baits. Β Gear depends on how I am going to fish the bait. Β Cast and retrieve, verticle, bed, or dragging. Β Since Yamamoto discontinued the California Roll, I use a Kut Tail and the Pro Senko that’s pictured. Β Favorite is the Shad Shape Worm which now comes in multiple sizes and a floating version. Β The weight is a Quick Drop. Β Best weights out there. Β

I use a Megabass Whipsnake with a Piscifun Carbon X II reel spooled with Sunline Almight. We have toothy fish here so it leader is 8lb Big Game mono.

Β

For a hook, I use Nishine DS #2 hook with a Snell Knot. My weight is "The Dredge" from POW Casting. Usually 1/4 oz.

Β

Favorite Goby bait? Xzone's Stealth Invader is a Dropshot specific bait that looks like a Goby. Has a small inverted paddle tail. Cool little bait! I use it in "309" and "Natural Goby".

Β

Favorite non Goby? Flick Shake Worm in "Cola" wacky rigged.

I flipshot exclusively:

Kistler Helium 7’0” LMH

Daiwa Alphas 800

12lb P-Line Tactical Fluoro

Mustad Tactical Alpha Grip hook

Β

Can confirm these both work in the Midwest. I've used the exact same.
