Boomerang Fishing Line Cutter

Featured Replies

I purchased a Boomerang line cutter about a year ago, before the start of the Spring fishing season. The cutters are dull after only cutting braided lines this year. I paid $18.00 for these cutters, I will buy scissors from Walmart next time. These $18.00 cutters are junk !

I dont even know where my Boomerang line snips are to be honest. Picked up a pair of Cuda line cutting scissors in 2023 off Amazon for a couple bucks and they've been amazing.

When I started having issues with my Boomerang, I picked up a pair of Cuda scissors off Amazon. Tossed the Boomerang, got a couple more Cudas and have used nothing else since. 4 years and my first pair still cuts like new.

Normally, I just use nail clippers, but for some reason I bought a Boomerang (I may have got tricked into the, "spend another $5 and you'll get free shipping spiel).

Overpriced stamped metal with loose tolerances of the cutting blade. and I'm not impressed and I won't be buying this again.

Sort of the same, I bought 2 of them, the one I use a lot is having a hard time cutting braid after maybe 3 years. I use them on the water April thru October roughly once a week. The best part is they are impossible to lose.

If the Cuda cutting scissors are those little, blue handle jobies, I have six of them scattered all over the boat for quick access.  The absolute best scissors I've used.  I didn't care for the Boomarang one bit.

I thought it was just me.

I have one. It worked great for a while but the buttons on it stick making useless if are trying to use one hand. I have been using nippers from Dr. Slick. They are pricey for what they are but work great.  I also have the Cuda scissors mentioned above. They too work great and are pretty cheap.

I got a pair several years ago. I still use them with every fishing trip - no problems on both braid and fluoro.

I still have mine and use them.

I grab another cutter first....but I still use them.

I have had mine for I don’t know how long and still cuts fine.

One thing I did notice tho, lately I’ve had to pull the Smackdown a little tighter to get a clean cut but don’t have to with Power Pro

I have a pair of $8 rapala braid cutting scissors that I bought in 2018 at walmart.  That pair is just now starting to get a little dull. By dull I mean, I just need to lift up a little when cutting braid. Still work great for regular mono or flouro.

I did buy a back up pair of the same rapala scissors a couple years ago.

I also have 2 pairs of kast king pliers with braid cutters on them. Those are just alright.  Seems I always have to adjust the cutting carbide all the time.  If the 2 carbides get crooked the will not cut braid.

I have a spot for my rapala scissors, my rubber long handled net, and kast king pliers right behind where I fish on the bow of the boat.

Being on a kayak I've been using the Boomerang's for years now.

Their really convenient as they attach to my life vest, so less that I fumble around with while on the water, one less thing also for me to drop overboard :)

I like the ones with the longer blades, try to cut mono/fluoro  with the tip of them and braid near the back.

I do have a pair of Cudas in my tackle box that I use back at the campsite for making leaders and such where I can just pick them off the ground when dropped.

I've had a couple pairs but yea they do wear out eventually. I'm gonna toss some of those Cuda scissors you guys are talking about in my Amazon cart. Two pairs for 7 bucks is a steal and beats 20 bucks for the Boomerang ones every year or two even if I have to replace them every year.

My boomerang cutters are still working well after several years. My problem with the Cuda scissors is that when I hang them on a retractor or put them in a pocket, they are always poking me or poking holes in my pockets.

Using braid on nearly rig my Boomerang cutters are struggling, leaving a fuzzy cut.

I've not tried them, but I think I'll end up going with scissors as they will be useful for a few other things too.

I use a knife currently, and I will continue. For me it's tradition, but also it's because I'm a knife nut. Be handy though when it's dark or raining or otherwise inopportune to have scissors.

No experience with braid, but they've been great for fluoro and I"ve had the same pair in the boat for almost 10 years.

First sign of loosing its sharpness.
If you pull the line fairly taunt they will cut clean

I buy the long blade ones off of Amazon for $11 and change. Overall I’m very happy with them. I have a bunch of them.  They always seem to be $11 on Amazon.
