Out of commission for 6 months

I hope everything goes well and you heal quickly. I too have heard that sound and it’s terrible. Your muscle is going to look really cool though.

I hope everything went well with your surgery. Take it easy and here's to a speedy recovery.

Don't rush it and it will heal,

How are you doing @river-rat ?

Overall I'm doing okay. Had the surgery on Thursday of last week and it went well. Pain has not been an issue at all - have not had to take any pain meds so far. Luckily I'm left handed so that helps a great deal. I have a follow up appointment with my doctor on Friday so I'll know more then.

The worst part is not being able to fish. My brother and nephew have been having some really productive trips the past couple of weeks. It's really hard not being out there. Hopefully i can make up for lost time by late summer.

Thanks for asking. I can assure you as soon as I can get back on the water I'll be one happy camper.

Excellent. No pain meds yet, that's great. Like I mentioned, tell your Physical Terrorist that you need to train for fighting and holding 15 lb bass for pics.

LOL ! Kinda feels that way at times.

They're wonderful & horrible at the same time. Kinda similar to the Hot/Crazy scale.😂

I feel your pain. The surgery is the small part, it's losing the fish'n time at our age.

I'll be 73 in months, and still 'nudging" my boat over sometimes. I'll have to watch it, now - fare warned. Either I power it on and miss, or leave it short and winch, but winching is equally tough on us old guys. I use my foot for the final turn. This old Ranger #10 don't trailer as well behaved as my older Ranger #9. It's got a fixed winch stand and different bunks. Too tail heavy with the 1st gen SHO, etc.

I recall when I had back surgery, I'd fished a OH river tourney on Sun. with a completely damaged L5 disk and partial L4. Couldn't let down my partner! I felt every wave and fished bent over. They cut me ASAP that week and during recoup fell into severe bass withdrawal. [My boat was at the dealer's and after surgery they called to let me know my boat was OK, their shop burned down but my boat was outside. (Owner was later indicted for arson)] I couldn't yet bend down all the way, but I had it with sitting around. I called my Ky pond fish'n buddy to come get me and take me. I caught and landed a 7 lber that day. Had 2 get on my knees in the mud to get it in, but made me feel wonderful! Cure all for the addicted?

Something to look forward too besides rest and recoup. Take care.

ps: I wiped out my prop Sat, giving way to and watching a ski boat idiot, so we didn't collide, not the graph, so it was another one of those expensive trips. Of course, "2 on order", no one stocks those crazy priced Yammie props. I'll have to use my refurbed 25P this week. I was planning to sell.(if anyone needs a T2 email me.) They changed design so they could charge more for a different thrust washer. I wanted to buy spare last year but that's when they changed over and everything was out of stock and delayed with all the mechanical repairs this winter. They'd bought Turbo, so they don't have much competition either.

Live and learn, then we get old and forget all we learned????

When I had my shoulder operation I was out of commission from ice out to the beginning of post spawn. My dad asked me if I wanted to go fishing with him, and I said "How"? Then he said, "well you can ride in the boat". I declined his invitation.

Got the stitches out today, so I guess you could say I'm making progress. Still have to wear a splint for 6-8 weeks and no fishing for another 5 months or so. At least with this new splint I can practice casting in the back yard for a few minutes a day.

Just have to be patient. But I have said for years that patience is over-rated.

That sucks, sorry to hear that. I’m not to far behind you. I’ll be 63 in may and I have a MRI on my knee on Thursday, I’m sure it was from doing something stupid too.🥴

Don’t worry the bass will still be there for you to catch when you get better

Well, I’m finally making progress on the torn bicep tendon. Surgery was 7 weeks ago and I now don’t have to wear the splint anymore - which is a huge relief.

Doctor said I can start exercising my arm with a light weight to begin building back a full range of motion.

I still have to wait another 8 weeks before I can go fishing. In the meantime I’m cleaning all my reels and spooling each with new line. Basically getting everything ready when I get the word it’s okay to go.

I told my wife and kids once I get the go-ahead don’t look for me during the week. I’ll be at our place on Belle River and in the Atchafalaya Basin.

I had my distal bicep tendon relocated a few years ago. Do you have a recliner? Sleeping in a bed the first week is rough.

I had to sleep in a recliner the first week after I came home from abdominal surgery. That was after spending 10 days in the hospital. Suffice it to say I was in a terrible sleep deficit.

Take it easy coming back and do exactly as they tell you. My doctor told me no heavy lifting for 3 months post-surgery. So I decided fishing two months after was OK. It was a mistake and I felt a new soreness that worried me for a couple of weeks. It's just now going away. I also had to be very conscious when I set the hook not to stick the rod butt in my scarred gut as is my habit. So I just watch a lot of YouTube in the meantime.

I had back surgery to support a collapsing L4 vertebra March 26 of '25. Two weeks later I felt great. Before that I was in true agony. The interventional radiologist who performed the Kyphoplasty urged me to procced slowly, and I thought I did.

However, the rapid loss of 50 lbs of muscle during hospitalization and illness doesn't rebound quickly. I waited until May 25th of that year to go fishing. I thought I'd taken it pretty easy, but by the next day I was pretty sure that I'd undone my surgery. I was terrified that I'd really screwed up. It was that bad.

I saw him a few weeks later, and after testing he'd assured me that the surgery had held, and that it was simply muscular strain thank God. Rehab finally got me back to where I was on May 24th.

My advice to @river-rat is to take recommendations super seriously and don't fool around.

One of my buds blew 3 different biceps tendons in three separate incidents. Out of work 9 months each time. Again, don't fool around if you can help it. Redoing the surgery is a nightmare and much more time lost.
