Guess The Weight...?

Featured Replies

Anybody want to take a stab at guessing her weight? For reference, from my wrist to armpit is 24"s. She put up a great fight with some strong runs. It only took me about 6 1/2 hours to find her.

(I'm terrible at approximating weight)

Nice bass.

Not sure on the weight

But she probably would have weighed much more if you caught her on Saturday.

4.91 lbs. What did I win?😁

Nice fish. 6.5 hours, she was just playing hard to get.

23-24in. spawned out female, 6-7lb.

Nice catch, I’m really not good at guessing weights. Every time I look back my pics they keep getting heavier.

When I watch YouTube videos of bass being caught, I am reliable at guessing their weights. I guess and then they weigh the bass and I'm usually within two ounces, but this is because I get to see the bass from multiple angles. I wouldn't trust my one-angle guess.

My guess is in the 4 lb range. But the solution to your question is always carry a scale with you.

I don't know if this will be any help, but have a go at it.

Wow, what a fight! And what a beautiful place to catch her. I agree with Dwight. She's in the four-pound range. I'm guessing 4.4 pounds.

Great fight, were you using light or ultra light gear?

That was a beautiful place to catch her. She was a beautiful fish.

She looks around 19-20” and pretty thick but not bloated - fairly tall - can’t really gauge width but I’d say between 4 and 5 lbs - probably on the 4.5-4.75 lb side of things.

That fish gripper clips perfectly to a scale. Just saying. 😎😉

Great looking fish!!

I’m rolling with 4.25 - 4.5. Always love a great fish fight.

5-6. As with my own fish, the camera steals a pound and a half. 🤣

Yes, she gave me a great fight and she kept surprising me with some unexpected runs. I'm not using terribly light gear. A Vendetta 7' medium/fast rod, 3000 size spinner with 10# braid. 10# 25' mono leader. A Megabass Flap Slap seduced her.

It is beautiful. I got married there. What makes it extra special is that I have the place to myself virtually all of the time.

To get a better estimate of the length, I rotated the bass and located it under my arm. Although my arm isn't fully extended out from my body, it's close. The bass's tail extends beyond my armpit, but with a fudge factor, it's at least 24" long. Precision guesswork at it's finest.

Before reading the comments, I too wanted to guess 4.9lbs, length wise should weigh more but it does look really lean

Thanks to everyone who "weighed" in. I thought about the question of weight and what it really means to me a great deal since I posted the question. I suppose I'll never know her true weight and at the end of the day, it really doesn't matter. For me it's not a numbers game. I like to push myself to do better and better. That's not a bad thing when tempered properly. What really matters is the experience of hooking into her, her wild runs, acrobatics and deep dives. She fought valiantly and I was extremely fortunate to have been drawn into connection with her. It was the experience that should be savored and that shouldn't get lost in a numbers game.

She won't have a weight attached to her. Instead, she'll be added to my "Big Girls Club" that is burned into my memory. Enrollment is open for the club and I hope to recruit more members this season.

I have a scale in the boat and rarely weight fish, If i think it will exceed 5lbs I will usually throw her on the scale.
