Do you find it useful or unnecessary to carry a dedicated spinnerbait/bladed jig setup?

Featured Replies

I have 1 rod dedicated to 3/8-3/4oz chatterbaits and Spinnerbaits...

A Dobyns Champion XP 736CB Glass pared with a Shimano Scorpion DC or Curado M depending on conditions.

Were I in your shoes, I’d take a look at the Dobyns DC 734C. It’s the utilitarian stick in my locker. Have thrown both spinnerbaits and chatterbaits on it and caught many fish. I have a dedicated bladed jig rod, but like you only have so much room in the kayak. If I don’t want to eat up one of my rod holders with my bladed jig stick but might throw one, having the 734 onboard gives me the option. Great with spinnerbaits as well.

Yeah, I’ve been looking at that Rod for a while, sounds like the do everything. What is your dedicated bladed jig Rod?

734 definitely does a lot.

For chatterbaits, same as @LGDFW . 736CB Glass.

I have as many as 18 rods on my boat at a time. (8, if in kayak.)

But only two are really dedicated to single presentation.

That said, I have one that excels at chatterbaits (for me.) Just so happens that it also excels for 4" flutter spoons. Never tried a spinnerbait on it, but I suppose it would be fine for 3/8 spinnerbaits; probably underpowered for 1/2, which is what I usually throw.

I carry 2 dedicated spinnerbait rods on the boat - Identical BPS 7’ MH Tourney Special rods, one with a 7.5 Carbonlite reel, the other with a 6.6 Tourney Special, both spooled with 15lb mono.

I’ve found these to be perfect for the 3/8 and 1/2 oz ‘baits I typically throw, and have a great backbone for pulling them out of the trees.

I fish out of a kayak and bring four rods. I fish my spinnerbaits and bladed jigs with a 7.5 foot M/H fast. I also use this rod form some crankbaits, buzzbaits, larger topwaters, and soft swimbaits. It may not be ideal for any of these lures, but I manage to catch some bass on it, and I don't like bring more than four rods.

I have room in the boat for dedicated set ups for each. The rods I use are different materials and actions.
