Double line through hook eye knots

Featured Replies

I use two: Palomar and a Double Pitzen almost exclusively, But I saw one on YouTube, don't recall the name, that got me to thinking. I tried it yesterday and it's easy to tie and I had no failures using it.

What knot do you use?

I only use the Pitzen. I switched to it years ago because I can tie it in a few seconds even in the winter with gloves on. One of my old fishing partners uses the Palomar exclusively. I can retie and make a cast or two while he is tying it.

For braid - Palomar

For Flourocarbon - Fish-N-Fool

For leader - Alberto

Just the Palomar. Have considered the Fishin Fool after finding out about it. I haven't tried it yet but there are directions for the Morizo knot on the packaging for Sunlines Defier Armillo.

I've been trying to use the Fish-n-fool for everything this year. So far I haven't had any issues with it.

Double pitzen if the reel is straight line (any of the three, most of the time). If it is a leader then I will tie a trilene knot which is a twice through the eye. A double pitzen uses too much of the leader material for my liking. Also, I have found every now and then that the double pitzen and I aren't getting along. I think it is how I cinch it and I've largely solved it but every now and then... In that case I just tie a trilene knot and be done.

Pitzen for all plastic lines, I'll tie a double when lures are getting over 1.5oz or so.

Palomar or snell for braid.

FG/Alberto/Uni-uni as required for leaders.

My doubled line terminal knot for all lines is the MK - fewer wraps for mono and FC, more wraps for braid.

For braid or Mono to hook or bait ~ Uni Knot.

For Flourocarbon - to hook or bait it's the Pitzen

and if I'm feeling frisky, I whip out the San Diego Jam.

For leader— to connect braid to FC / mono - Uni to Uni knot

Blood knot for nylon to nylon.

When all else fails, I go with the world-famous 104 turn Mite Knot.

Might hold - Might not.

The Fish-N-Fool Knot is nothing more than the Uni Knot with the line put thru the eye twice. Most of the time I stick with the Uni but whenever I want to be extra safe I'll use the Fish-N-Fool. There are plenty of good knots as long as they are tied correctly. I just stick with what I learned as a teenager. Well...except for the Alberto. That I learned later in life. Used a Blood Knot before that. No problems with it either. BTW, there are a couple videos on tying the Blood Knot that are way faster than how I tied it as a youth. Very simple too. Much easier than the Alberto...for me anyway.

I'll have to try this knot just for chits and giggles. Looks like another good one. However, I question the 'fewer wraps' from the provided photo. I use fewer with the Uni.

I used to tie the Pitzen, but that one extra step to tie the SDJ (which takes 1/2 second to do) makes it more reliable.

In my mind at least.

I've been a big fan of the palomar for braid and mono and SDJ for flouro for years, but recently started using the Shark Knot/Double Clinch for flouro and have to say I'm a huge fan. Very easy to tie and it's been extremely strong.

San Diego Jam for open water, Trilene for in the stuff. Brian.

The 'Monofile 2-5 Windungen' translates to 'Monofillament 2-5 winds' - 2-5 wraps for mono/FC

'Multifile 8-12 Windungen' translates to 'Multifillament 8-12 winds' - 8-12 wraps for braid

Personally, I do 4-5 wraps for mono/FC and 9-10 wraps for braid - diameter doesn't seem to matter.

For attaching leaders - it's the Alberto for me...backing to mainline, it's a double-Uni
