Anyone use and like the Berkley Nessie? I seen Tom Redington say that he used them, and that's pretty good endorsement for a cheap swimbait.

I have a Nessie but wasn't a fan. I like the Chop Block though, except the hookup ratio is awful. I mainly use it to bird dog fish and cast back with something else to get them in the boat.

I wasn’t too fond of the Nessie’s action. Didn’t fish at all like a glide, only wanted to dart in one direction and rolled over bad. The only retrieve I could get it to work with was just burning it.

Its a big thumbs down for me. Its cheap, doesn't really swim well, and didn't catch any fish for me. It was a waste.

Have any of you fished the flag also?

Bought one to try just have not fished it yet.

Same here. Got a Flag 150 sitting on my desk, just haven’t had the occasion to throw it yet.

This has been one of my favorite soft glide baits as well. It's easy to use and fish slam it.

Buying a more expense bait that works well is a lot better than multiple cheaper baits that don’t work. If a suggestion is out of your expense range don’t buy it but be appreciative of a good suggestion.

Berkeley makes a lot of knockoff garbage these days.

I saw the little nessie rigged up on a buddys rod. I commented on it and he gave me one. That was like 6 months ago and Ive yet to even get it wet. When you scale baits up or down, it doesnt mean you will get the same action and just by the feel of the little nessie, I would be very surprised if it had great action.

What size are you all fishing ?

Curious whether different sizes swim better. I have the larger size. Can’t recall if it’s the 9 or 11.

Seems to swim ok.

I even added a little Weight to the belly to try and improve the sink and darting action. Didn’t notice bad rolling. It’s not great but cheap enough where I don’t feel bad throwing it into risky stuff.

I’ve only thrown the 7” and 9”. Of the 2, the 9” came closest to a decent action, while the 7” were just dead in the water.

Because the Flags are hard to come by, I tried both the 7" and 9" sizes of the Nessie. I did not have much success. There is a reason they are in the clearance section on TW.

If you can find a Flag, buy it!

Did you widen the screw in hook keeper in the front treble? Basically to where the hook releases with a slight pull. I use them a ton here on the MS coast for big speckled trout, and have an awesome hook up ratio, rarely missing.

Nessie was the first glide I bought. Caught a few and lost a bunch more. I added a stinger hook and that helped with missed fish. Bought a Chop Block but haven't used it yet.

No, I'm skipping it under docks and overhangs so I need the hook to stay in place.

Ahh gotcha, makes sense. I lost two giant trout on my first chop block out of the package, and it was due to that rig not deploying from the keeper. Figured out the solution REAL quick.

I haven’t fished one. But I’ve looked at them extensively. And I just don’t care for it. They seem cheap. And the category they are in you get what you pay for with a glide bait.

The flags are awesome, I like a burn pause with them with some chops mixed in. I’ve caught a bunch on the 170 but the 255 seems to only get followers for me. They seem to have a harder time committing to the bigger bait. The gill 150 is also good.

For the guys that want to get flags, follow grow design on Instagram he usually posts when there are batches going to US retailers. Coyote bait and tackle, three rivers tackle, Japan import tackle and lake pro tackle are the shops that usually get them in. TW gets them too but aren’t as good about posting drop dates and times. Those shops will usually post ahead of time when they will be released and you need to be on the site at that exact date/time because they go fast. Really Fun bait to fish, In my opinion worth the money. Acquiring them is also half the fun!
