What do you use spinning gear for?

Recommended Posts

What applications do you choose spinning gear over baitcasting?

For me, I like spinning gear for t rigs and spinnerbaits.  I actually prefer it over baitcasting.  The only time I would choose baitcasting gear for these 2 applications would be for flipping t rigs in slop, and if I had to make really long dead accurate casts.  Other than that, I really like the feel of working a spinnerbait and plastics with spinning gear.  It just feels "right".

What methods do you prefer spinning gear for and why?

I use spinning gear mostly for plastics like shakey head, drop shotting, light T-rigs, and split shot rigs. I also use it for some lighter jerkbaits like smaller Rapalas and smaller fluke-type lures. Baitcasting for everthing else.

Ditto with Crankenstein.  I also use spinning for 1/4oz Pop-r and 1/4oz Zara Spooks

I use spinning gear for light weight applications and on REALLY windy days.  Also for catfishing.

I use spinning gear for almost everything.  I'm not real good with a bait caster and don't pull it out often enough.  I've used a spinning set up since I was a kid so that's where I'm most confortable.

I should preface by saying that my spinning gear is a heavier class than most baitcasting tackle.

Whenever casting is involved, I use only spinning tackle,

for instance: jigs, crankbaits, soft plastics, spinnerbaits, swimbaits, you name it.

When casting is secondary, I'll often turn to baitcasting gear, for instance:

live shiners, trolling, drifting, still fishing at anchor and certain saltwater apps.

Spinning.........panfish to sailfish, I have the suitable set up for my target.  Use a heavier conventional just for a change of pace, trolling , drifting and relaxing.

When do I prefer to use spinning gear vs bc gear ? pretty simple, when I 'm on foot patrol, can 't  cast well with bc gear when the brush and trees don 't let you, on the boat, well I pretty much don 't care, I use spinning for almost everything but flipping or swimbaiting.
