I wanted to buy some fake minnows but i cant decide betweent the Zoom Super Fluke Jr. and the Berkley Gulp Minnow :-/

WOW...talk about a tough question!

Frankly, they're both super-duper soft jerkbaits, but since the fluke is a little more fish-shaped than a slug-go,

it probably appeals more to me, but necessarily to bass.

I've had too much fun with Slug-Gos to give them anything but praise (with pike too).

When Gulp is in my home, I'm looking for the plunger to blow open the backed-up toilet.

When Gulp is the boat, I find myself scanning the horizon for a sewage treatment plant.

I'd rather forfeit 1 or 2 Gulp bass than forfeit the joy of breathing  :

Do what RoLo suggested; the Super Fluke. The Jr. is so small that it's very easy to overwork the bait. And, that's the key to these baits. Don't overwork them. The Jr. makes a good spinnerbait trailer, and is probably a good drop shot bait. Don't know for sure about the drop shot thing. I do so little drop shotting that my opinion is useless.

I jumped on the Gulp bandwagon as soon as it came out, and jumped right back off. Too much hassle, too much stink, and two little fish. The stuff has no action. To the bass, Gulp may taste like Beef Wellington, with foie gras and truffles, but they don't know that if it doesn't get in their mouths. And, anything that looks like a dead stick in the water is unlikely to make it way into their mouths. I know some people have had success with Gulp, but I'm not one of them.

Sorry for the Gulp rant, but I spent a bunch of money on this stuff when it first hit the market, and I do not remember catching a fish on it, other than a couple of bluegill.

And, you thread hijackers, be quite about the Sluggo. Can't a guy have a secret bait around here? ;D ;D ;D

good suggestions so far. also dont forget stick baits. they imitate minnows too. pick youself up a pack or two of *** 4 or 5 inch *** in shimmer shad and smoke red or blue pepper. those mimic minnows great in the water and they are my best producing colors.

I usually do pretty well with split tail Bass Assassins. My favorite color to use is the pink and pearl colored ones. I never look at the label; I just know the color when I see it, but it's a "something" shad.

Close second for me is a good ol' Sluggo, pumpkin.

I like the fluke, for use as a soft jerkbait.  I love the was it darts to the side and then s-l-ow-l-y  settles toward bottom.

I MAY fish the sluggo the same way, but it "walks" really well just under the surface,

If my wal-mart sold sluggo's I would probably use them exclusively, as it is I have to order them from basspro

5" Fluke in Pearl color.

I use it 75% of the time when trying to imitate a shad with a soft minnow bait.

I throw it on 3/0 EWG Red Gammy hook and will usually put a nail style weight in the bait to get it down a bit and work it fast without the bait jumping out of the water nose first.

It's my # 1 bait for fishing schooling fish in open water in Summer.

I use Super Flukes.  I consider the Original Rapala Floater a minnow bait too and I love it for shallow bass.

I only have experience using soft jerkbaits on a carolina rig and I prefer the 3X Zulu b/c it will float a 4/0 hook with that set up.

I usually throw some type of stickbait in place of the fluke (probably my error  )

I like flukes, but my favorite has to be Case Sinkin' Salty Shads. They are a little less buoyant than a fluke, and sink just a bit quicker, which is usually what I need to fish in rivers with currents...

But definitely flukes over gulp.

Can't go wrong with Zoom Super Flukes, just a great bait. Anyways, as for the gulp, the only gulp product I like is the 6inch Nightcrawlers (but you have to find a bag thats just right, not too soft, not too hard, not bent, and that ain't easy. Also the saltwater gulp products are some good stuff.)n They make a Berkley Powerbait soft jerkbait thats pretty good, and it'll bring more of a scent appeal into the playing field, if thats what your looking for. Imo though you can just as easily rub some Megastrike on the Super Fluke and have the same deal. I'd go with the Super Flukes, but check out the Powerbait Jerkbaits too, there not half bad.

I have never used anything BUT the Zoom Super Flukes and Super Fluke Jr's. in this style of bait. They are great baits. I can't think of anything else I would rather use at the moment. One of the most versatile baits ever made.

gulp should be outlawed. yes it is just that bad. Could be used for funny, but smelly practical jokes. Don't you GULP before you puke, hence buy gulp, smell then surprise!!! your lunch is looking at you. hope you did'nt eat sushi. Sorry to be long winded, but i hate gulp.

6" Slug-go in Watermelon Shad.  The Slug-go still kills for me...I don't leave home without them.  This is a bait I don't mention much, but is one of my go-to's.

I'll add...those that routinely use Zoom Flukes...you should give the old original 6" Slug-go a try.  I guarantee you will catch larger fish...
