If you had to choose one rod/reel setup for all of your fishing, what would it be and why? Length, action, spinning or casting, line, etc...

id keep my bsr852. 7'1" mediumish-extra fast spinning rod. stradic because i dont know any better...

reason is because i fish mostly bottom baits under 3/8oz. the only baits i dont like tossing on this rod are cranks.

x2 A M/F Spinning rig with a 2500 size reel is probably the most versatile for bass techniques.

Rogue MB664 6 1/2' MH rod with a Chronarch 50Mg reel.  Very light, sensitive rod with a softer than average tip section that's a pleasure to fish.  It's as close to a "do it all" rod as I've ever used and it works well for both crankbaits and T-rigged plastics. I'm not so particular about the reel but the 50Mg is light and I like the 6.2:1 gears.

x2 A M/F Spinning rig with a 2500 size reel is probably the most versatile for bass techniques.

X3  I think it would be good for worms, light cranks, light jigs, jerkbaits, and many others.

Hmmmm - I only have two Loomis rods - and one is a GLX BSR852. I guess that might be the rod I'd keep as it is my best spinning rod, and if I could only have ONE rod - I'd rather have a medium-power spinning rod for the overall versatility than any of the BC rods that I have... :

A M-F spinning would be a good choice, but I think if I could only have one, it would a 7' M-XF baitcast. Line 10-15# CXX depending on conditions.

Not much for spinning tackle so, for the fishing I do, my choice would be a Loomis MBR 843 GLX.  Teamed with REVO STX-HS, 30# braid, 12# fluoro leader I could throw most anything I use on a regular basis for Mississippi River Smallmouth.

Would be my 704 Excel, Revo S-L, Power Pro 50# Braid, Chartruse/White spinnerbait or t-rigged power worm.

If I could only have one it would have to be my 7ft medium St. Croix Mojo casting rod with a 200 Shimano curado SF with 15lb test. I could do almost anything with it and have used it for most fishing techniques already.

1 rod for me would be my 7' redbone 10/20, soron 40 with 15# braid, has caught tarpon, snook, bonita, barracuda and kingfish, on the way home I use it in the canals for bass fishing and pulls them out of the heaviest slop.

update : Just got back from the beach and did some bass fishing on the way home, used a redbone med 8/17 with a soron 20, 15# braid.  Really it was no fun, rod is just too much for the apx 3 pounder I caught , will have a med freshwater rod with me from now on.

Mine would be my tube/jerkbait rod, 7'M Daiwa Zillion/Daiwa Alphas 103/12 fluorocarbon.  Probably one of the most versatile rods I own.  I've fished everything with from 1/8oz to 3/8oz jigs, dropshot, tubes, jerkbaits, cranks, t and c-rigs.....

Hummm if if had to be just one rod then I would have to go with either my Daiwa D-Force 6'6" rod with my Catalyst PTi-B 20 and 20# Power Pro for spinning.

or

Casting it would be my Kistler Mag TS 7' rod with a Daiwa Exceler and 12# Cabelas Flouro.

Spinning - Airrus Tradition 7'2" MH-F. The most versatile rod I own.

Swap the Abbadabbado for a CH50MG and that is a great suggestion!

Otherwise:

Casting: MBR844C/ CU200E7 or Core 50MG7

Spinning: SJR783S or SJR843S/ Stradic CI4

Out of what I regularly use:  Shimano Crucial 7'6" MH Flippin Stick.  40-50# Braid.  Theres not much that I can't do with that rod.

As for the rod, M/XF spinning rod.

I would probably get some Ugly Stik spinning rod that way i can keep fishing after you guys break yours. Especially if I need it to last a while.

As for the rod, M/XF spinning rod.

Nope, not thought up, just pure heaven.

Core 50mg7/ Kistler LTX II med. hvy./ fast. 7'

  The core wouldn't change,  but I would like to try a Loomis nrx.  Currently,  the LTX is the best rod I've used.  I've had a Dobyns champion and would also like to try a ch. extreme.
