lipless cranks

Featured Replies

I love lipless cranks and I'm curious to see what lipless cranks most people throw. I know rat-l-traps are extremely popular. Personally, I would be under the throw many different brands option.

I counted 17 different brands of lipless cranks in my tackle box. I have read that each different brand of lipless crank produces a different vibration, so you should carry many different brands and keep throwing different ones until one brand works. I have also gone done a bank and caught fish on one brand, then when the action stopped I used another brand and caught a few more.

Curious to see what brand people stick to or if you guys are more like me

XCalibur and Aruku Shad...sometimes Lucky Craft

XCalibur has worked the best for me.  I have fished the Rat-L-Traps for years and had ok luck with them but when I went to the XCalibur version, I just caught more fish.  I also like the hooks better on the XCaliburs and they seem to hold up a lot better.

I usually fish Lewis's and Rapala's, but in the last part of last year I starting fishing the Red Eye from Strike King. I plan on fishing it a lot more in 2008. ;)

i love the bass pro XPS trivibe

I mostly fish the original rattle trap and rapalas. This is probably because they are the most readily available.(the local wally world stocks 'em)

you gotta have yo-zuri on there.

I know, I only had ten options and i considered taking out berkely frenzy for yo zuri.

Mostly rapalas and rattle-traps, with a couple other ones thrown in the mix...

Rapalas, Rat-l-traps, and Spots.  Rapalas are the most productive for me.

LC LV500

and

Yo Zuri Hardcore Drum

Rat-L-Traps seem to do a very good job.

Use others, too, but mostly Rat-L-Traps.

Rat-L-Trap  ;)

Rat-l-trap,Rapalas and Frenzy's..will be try the Red Eye this year

XCalibur XR50's and LC LV500MAX.  Both have been my top performers out here.

Rattle Traps is the only brand of lipless cranks I have.  One trick that I've learned from fellow reservoir anglers is the removal of the rear treble hook. 99% of the hook ups are on the front hook. By removing the rear hook, it's a lot easier to rip it out of the weeds without getting hung up.

I mostly throw the old Cordell hot spot (1 knocker), but will use traps, raps, super spots. My least favorite is the SK diamond shad. I also remove the rear hook and swap out the front 2 sizes bigger than stock.

I voted rat-l-trap, but never expected to see such a onesided lead!

Kudos fellows and gals for recognizing quality in the absence of high price.

Now for the bad news, Bill Lewis is currently attempting to outdo himself.

I'm talking about the new "Vibra-Trap" for about three times the price.

I have a gut-feeling that the Vibra-Trap is going to be BIG (mine are currently on backorder).

Hey thanks for all the replies guys!!! I kinda expected to see rat-l-traps dominate.

I just ordered three sebile possessed series lipless cranks. Looking forward to fishing them come ice out. Do you have any tips for where to fish them, like do they do best in weeds or muddy water, etc...
