Fished Wyco for likely the last time this year before it closes with Sean (sizzlefry). Tried for some of those wipers they were catching next week. I got my hook straightened on my jigging spoon 3 times and had another one pull off when I changed the hooks out. I did catch 3 very healthy, fat smallmouth in the 16 to 17 inch range. When we gave up on the wipers and started fishing for bass they were pretty willing to play. I had 31, all but those 3 smallies on shakyheads or a luck e strike rc stick Jr jerkbait. Right towards the end of the day I had by far my biggest largemouth I've caught out there this year eat my jerkbait right next to the boat and cruise by the boat like a mini sub. Had a long careful fight before Sean got the net under her. 20" and 4.14 pounds, she had great color and was one of the healthiest looking fish I've seen from out there.

Well I was going to go hunting this morning but because of the wind, me being too tired to get up early, and after that good day yesterday, I decided to fish Wyandotte one more time this year :) It started terrible, cold and windy and despite fishing my best spots with the same baits that were working yesterday I had one 10" largemouth to show for it and my buddy Van hadn't had a bite yet. Tried shakyheads, jerkbaits, and jigging spoons with little to show for it. Tried the point at the mouth of boy scout cove and finally caught a few smallmouth and largemouth on jigging spoons and jerkbaits. Started to leave when a couple seagulls circled and picked something up off the water so I stopped and dropped a jigging spoon again. We both caught a few white bass and Van caught the skinniest wiper I've ever seen, 19" long and maybe 2.5 pounds. By 2pm we had only caught about a dozen bass so we decided one more bank then that's it. Went to a bank I didn't fish yesterday with jerkbaits and for about 20 minutes it was pretty constant. I had 2 keepers and we had several close fish between us. Jumped across the lake and I caught my last keeper of the year from Wyco, a solid 17" fish on a shakyhead.

I'd go again tomorrow but unfortunately I have to work :( I ended up with 31 bass on the day again today and Van probably had 15 himself.

Less than 2 weeks, getting down to the wire!! Any of you boys want some info on catching trout at Wyco let me know. They're much more aggressive than bass in cold water and they stock some nice ones at the Dotte that are a real fun fight on light tackle.

Id be willing to give it a try.  Never fished for trout.  I probably wouldnt be able to go until march 9th.  Then I have a week off for spring break.  Let me know if you will be able to go any day that next week.

yup Im in I love trout fishing its usually easy to catch a limit in a stocked lake. my brother lives on lake Waukomis and I hit the trout every year when they stock it. any old rooster tail or small spoon usually works but any help will do since its a new lake for me. going to buy all my tags next week so im ready.

I wouldn't be surprised if they have to postpone the opening at least a week, maybe two or even three now. Wyco is always one of the last lakes to thaw and now with all this snow and cold it will probably freeze back up again  :cry3:

Opening day postponed until March 9th according to the sign at the boat ramp. My dad said the lake is almost completely thawed but still going to be another week until opening day.

Mostly a lurker on the forum...mainly because I didn't catch a lot of bass last year and can't get out much, but I'm planning to fish the dotte regularly this year.  I'm going to try and make it out for opening day, so hope to see some of you guys there.  Will be out in a white and red procraft, so if you see me, come on over and say hello (or share some of your secret baits).  We'll probably be huntin' bass as I'm kind of sick of trout already after all that we've caught this winter over at Lake Henry in Lawrence.

The Dotte is a little rough for bass early in the year until the water gets to the high 40's or the magic 50 degree mark. Seems to get a lot of moss on the bottom early in the year so a slowly fished jerkbait is usually one of the best options early on or a jigging spoon along deep water structure.

Last fall I pounded WYCO as I live about 5 minutes from the lake...did pretty well on smallies and a few good largemouths.  I'm thinking about heading out there more this year and was planning on fishing deeper structure.  I'll post some pics of anything I catch out there.

I would but tomorrow is the start of the work week for me. I'll have to wait until Wednesday or Friday. Hopefully the weather will be better by then.
