Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 2, 2013 Author Global Moderator Share Posted May 2, 2013 Weather and fishing sucked again at the Dotte tonight. Most of our fish ate jerkbaits or wacky rigs. Pretty tough to fish much in the 30mph winds. Jon was the heartbreak kid. 4 times we thought he had keeper bass on, twice they were white bass, once a trout, and once a 20" walleye. 13 boats with only 1 1.82 pound fish weighed in again for an almost $400 prize. SuperFluke
Fished the Dotte this afternoon. Pretty strange to see only one other trailer in the lot when I pulled in. Anyway, I caught five in about three hours. All caught on a jerkbait. Used a smaller jerkbait today than I have in the past, and that seemed to make a huge difference. Two fish were 14.5"...caught one in about two feet of water that had a bloody tail. Looked for beds for awhile afterwards in the same area, but didn't see any. They'll be moving up very soon.

A 78 pointer was the only jerkbait we could get them to touch Wednesday, very specific about the colors they'd eat too. If we could ever get some stable, warm weather I think they'd flood the shallows looking to spawn. The only consistent thing about the weather so far this year is it's been very inconsistent. Mr_Scrogg
I think there is a stretch this week of stability in KC. Caught the weather at Park Lanes in Shawnee last night. High 60s to mid 70s. Oh and I did shoot another 300 last night.

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 9, 2013 Author Global Moderator Share Posted May 9, 2013 You guys didn't miss a thing. 15 boats, not a single keeper weighed in. Pretty sure Chris turned one loose that would have been worth $325 though

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 9, 2013 Author Global Moderator Share Posted May 9, 2013 What the heck??? Not sure what is up. The water was way greener than it was last week, several degrees warmer, lots of moss and junk floating on the top, and the up and down weather. It really felt like turnover conditions but in the spring. As for Chris turning a keeper lose, it was probably short but it was bigger than anything else we caught all night and would have been close but I don't know if he thought I was charging to use my measuring board or what but it was back in the water before I could even get the board out. SuperFluke
Fished for about three hours today in the middle of the afternoon. Way underestimated the amount of drinking water I would need...holy crap it was hot. Water is probably two feet higher than it was three weeks ago, which actually makes it hard to cast to a lot of the banks. Caught a couple small ones in boy scout cove, then jumped off a definite keeper fish at the boat on the main lake. Saw a couple of fish on beds in boy scout cove but nothing big. I ended up with six, so that means that 15 lbs will win tomorrow night. I would guess that there will be at least one limit caught... That's what I guessed last week when nobody caught a keeper You're probably right though since I won't be able to fish this week.

It sucks that its been so hard to catch keepers out there this year. This is my first year fishing the lake, but I feel like it has been better in past years based on this thread. Planning to make it out next week.

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 21, 2013 Author Global Moderator Share Posted May 21, 2013 Hit the 'Dotte this morning from 6-11 and finally did really well, for numbers at least. They ate a bit of everything and only had one keeper but managed 29 fish, only one of which was a smallmouth. Was nice to finally kind of feel like I knew what I was doing out there. Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 23, 2013 Author Global Moderator Share Posted May 23, 2013 Well it sucked again tonight. 16 boats, 4 fish weighed in, 2.10 pounds won it. We caught probably 25-30 and none even very close to measuring.
SuperFluke
Fished last night from 6 pm to about 8:30 pm. Water temp in low 70's. Was a pretty good night even with the dirty, high water from the rain. My brother and I probably put a dozen in the boat. Caught a few on a dropshot and a shakeyhead on the main lake, including our first smallmouth of the year at Wyandotte (a skinny 13 incher). Then, we spent the rest of the evening throwing topwater. The action was pretty steady in Boy Scout cove. Was a lot of fun until my brother jumped off the only keeper LM (2-3 lb) of the evening right by the ramp at the marina on the last cast of the day. Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 30, 2013 Author Global Moderator Share Posted May 30, 2013 kanasbassfisher and I FINALLY put the right fish in the boat tonight. Caught 2 keepers, both in the last half hour, but that was enough. 15 boats, 9 keepers weighed in, we were one of two boats with two keepers. Only had 3.16 pounds but that was good for first place. Felt great to finally feel like we knew what we were doing a little bit!

Ku Xiong
Well its been a while since I posted, but my 2 brothers and I went out to WyCo Lake in the afternoon around 6pm until dark on May 30th. Im trying to introduce bass fishing to my brothers. We managed 13 Smallmouth Bass and 3 Largemouth Bass. All caught on shakeyheads, Craw Papi, squarebills, tubes, Ned Rigs, and jerkbaits. Smallmouths ranged from 12-18 inches and largemouth 12-14 inches. My brothers first time ever on a boat and catches this nice 16.5 inch Smallie. He loved ever bit of it. The first Smallmouth of the day for me. It hammered a Ned Rig. It measured out to be 17 inches. My last fish of the day. It slammed a shakeyhead. 18 inches. You caught more smallmouth in one day out there than I've caught all year at Wyco. I'm not sure why I haven't been catching any, I'd sure like to bring one of those keeper smallies to the weigh in one of these nights
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 9, 2013 Author Global Moderator Share Posted June 9, 2013 Felt like a real failure last Wednesday. 18 boats weighed in 11 fish, none of them were mine The lake is just stumping me this season. You'd think when you put 30-40 fish in the boat like we did you'd get one to measure but it just didn't happen. Not sure if I need to start fishing bigger baits to weed out the small fish or I'm just doing the completely wrong thing but something has to change. Still solidly in second place overall for the year (albeit a very distant second from first place) so hopefully the fish off will be somewhere I'm good at so I can really make some money on that deal.
RedSoxDude
Lol.. I'd like to know where and how you're even catching any! My best day there was Friday with only 5 fish all with a crawdad crank!
