Re: Wyandotte County Lake

I do but I almost always cover up the back, yellow light so it isn't as bright. It isn't pointed at the water like a headlamp will be a lot of the time either.

Don't laugh but I read this in BASS Master, use a plastic 20oz Mt Dew bottle to cover up the back light after you remove the wrapping and cut the top off. :)

I normally just put my hat over the top of it but that's a good idea.

What bait are you guys using on the Shakey heads at Wyco?   I have not had much luck using short worms.

Net bait T macs and Zoom Trick worms are my favorites.

Man I'm starting to feel like a broken record. Keepers are still tough to find. Kanasbassfisher08 and I fished last night, plenty of fish, just no keepers. Saw more smallies last night than I've probably seen out there all year. I broke off what felt like a good fish, I should probably learn to retie after dragging a bait through rocks all night I guess.

Yep especially in a lake with Zebra Mussels,    I have had the same problem at WYCO.     Try to remember to retie frequently.

I normally am really good about it because I spend so much time fishing Melvern, which is 100 times worse than Wyco for zebra mussels. I actually hadn't seen one out there until Chris caught a rock with a few on it on his crankbait. I was fishing 16lb Sunline and it's just easy to feel like you're safe with line that heavy but I know better than that and I let laziness get the best of me and it cost us.

Probably cost us the week before too....

Went out yesterday after my planned trip to Wabaunsee got messed up by a flat tire.  The water was super clear.  Like dirty lake in Minnesota clear.  I'm guessing at least 15 feet of visibility pretty much everywhere on the north side of the lake.  I caught a few fish but they were all really, really small and they all came on a white Mepps.  Couldn't even get a bite on anything else I tried.

I'm glad the Wednesday nighters are almost over! 3 fish weighed in by 3 teams (not us) first place and biggest fish was a massive 1.74 pounder. I bet in the last 3 weeks there has been well over 50 fish put in my boat without one being even very close to measuring, just terrible. I had one that I thought was the right fish last night until I saw those white, rubbery lips and look down face. Stupid drum even jumped like a bass!

I'm not planning on fishing the tournaments next year so I probably won't even buy a permit next year, it's too much of a drive to catch a bunch of dinks.

Only reason I have one is Sizzle paid for it ;)

What's the biggest bass you caught out of that lake this spring ?

2 pound smally for me but the trout are huge, sizzle and I have had two over 5 pounds, and two hybrids over 8 pounds.

I didn't catch any big ones this spring but we had a 6+ largemouth weighed in the first tournament of the year. No big smallies this year but last year there was a 5 1/2 pounder. My best are a 6.5 largemouth and a 4lb 2oz smallmouth but this year a largemouth a little shy of 4 was the biggest. If you want to fish for trout I'd go to Lake Shawnee, bigger trout, no lake or boat permit, all you need is a $12 state trout permit.

Jon was catching them on a Wart Hog crankbait (Wiggle Wart knockoff). They eat a Ned Rig pretty well out there too.

Fished WYCO in the rain this morning,   Great time!  Caught probably 25 bass in 2 hours.   No monsters but plenty of 13 and 14 inch fish.   Water is super clear and fish are in shallow water.

Not quite the 4.5 i said you'd stick but congrats! Lol

A 4.5 would have got us a little more money but only 1 more point so it had pretty much the same effect. Mainly now I'm done out there until the water cools off and I don't have to fish next week which makes my wife really happy!
