fishing for bass

Featured Replies

obviously when you go out fishing you are in hopes of landing LM/SM bass. sometimes you get other fish instead of the bigguns you intended for.

my question is this. when you go fishing for bass, what types of fish do you pull in other than bass, unintentionally? :(

i actually get crappie biting on my lure rather than bass.  i caught one bass and one crappie my last time out.  :)

Lately on the river the 'others' have been walleye, and catfish. The walleye are usually pretty small, but I still enjoy catching them. I really don't mind the catfish as they sometimes put up quite a good fight.

The pond that I fish usually produces scores of bluegills, crappie, and some red ears. Those are quite fun as well. This pond has some huge ones. The largest so far has been a 14" crappie.

Lately I have been loading up on catfish. I caught a twenty pound giant a month ago along with four other cats. I have also caught bream, skipjack, shad, gar, bowfin....can I stop now  :-/

I voted "others" and that would be...

walleye

Apparently they like tubes and white spinnerbaits too.

Not really, I'm fishing for peacocks.

We catch a variety on the Tennessee River:

White bass, Kentucky bass, crappie, striper, flathead and blue cats,

sauger, drum, buffalo, rock bass, bluegill, skipjack, threadfin and

gizzard shad, turtles and gar.

In Florida, there are a few animals that will strike a bass lure, among them:

> Bowfin

> Chain Pickerel

> Large Crappies

> Large Bluegills

> Florida Gar

> Alligators

> Turtles

I'd bet there are not many of us on this site that accidently load up on Saugeye !

Not uncommon to reel in a Channel Cat or Chain Pickerel when using spinners or crankbaits.

Same in Southwest Georgia, especially bowfin and gar.

Farther north we tend to catch yellow perch, chain pickeral, and blue gill

only things i seem to bring in other than some kind of bass would be catfish of somesort. and the infamous fish shaped like a tree branch

I catch alot of Musky and Pike and some pretty decent Rockbass.

Just out of curiosity, why did you list LM/SM as an option if that's what you're fishing for?

i mainly did that cause maybe there are some anglers out there that only catch what they are fishing for and nothing more.  like bass, i go out in the hunt for bass but bring something else in instead.

Gotcha. Just confusing cause in the title you put fish other than bass and in the poll one of the options is bass. Seems to be getting alot of votes though!

Ditto on the bream and bowfin.....Ocassionally a pickeral. stiper, and hybrids. I will say a bowfin will fight as good as any freshwater fish around, toothy critters to be sure.
