  1. When I'm matching lures or rigs with rods and line one of the main things I think about is the hookset. I ask myself can this rod and line drive that hook through the toughest part of a bass' mouth. Notice that I said nothing about the worm because if you have the right hook for the setup then you can use any worm. What I would use for your setup is a thin wire hook. Usually any worm hook over a 3/0 would be to thick to get a consistent hookset so I would look small or look at some jigheads that have thin wire hooks. One that comes to mind is the Charlie Brewer Slider jig. I hope this helps
  2. Almost on a daily basis someone will ask "What is the best.......?". This person will usually be someone who is fairly new to fishing or has been away from it for some amount of time. This question always makes me cringe because they are looking for a right answer and there just isn't one. There isn't even a wrong answer. All they will get is a confusing bombardment of differing opinions. Then to add insult to injury they get to see the posse and the anti posse folks go at each other's necks like a pack of dogs. Why some people get so upset when another member says something bad about "their" brand I haven't a clue. All I know is that a personal, attacking response is childish. How do you think this looks to a new angler? How do you think this looks to an outsider? If you read a post that makes you angry STOP and step back and read it again. Then ask yourself if what you read is what they really meant or are you just interpreting it wrong. Then respond with respect and ask them if you read it right. If you find yourself in total disagreement with someone for their post that's fine. Respect their opinion and respond with respect. Be careful of how you word things. They aren't wrong and you aren't wrong. Deal with your differences like adults and you will be amazed at the learning experiences and friendships that you will get from the whole situation. This forum's number one rule is "respect each other". I hate looking like I'm taking a side because two people or groups can't respect each other.
  3. I'm locking this for a little while while I read through the whole thing and then give a logical (why do I have to moderate adults) response.
  4. I used to think Solar Bats were great untill I used a pair of Costas. I love them.
  5. PBS must be begging for money again. The only time the good shows come on is when they want money.... I do love the Celtic Woman though.
  6. He moved from OK to TX a year or so ago and never changed his location on his profile.
  7. I look for either an old Bass Tracker or a Fisher. If they have trees growing out of them it's even better.
  8. I think we will see a better selection of mid range priced tackle and equipment that is great quality. I think the high dollar fishing companies will have to adapt or continue to struggle. We will see a major change in Boat Production to something more affordable. The Classic will be won by someone who has never won it before. The new magic bait will be a creature bait of some type. 8-)
  9. I hate it that this happened. I feel for his young wife. I will be praying for everyone involved. Many of you know that I will forever be involved in Boy Scouts and teaching youth leaders. This incident is one of those things I always use as a teaching tool. So bear with me as I preach. Look at everything you may loose because of a bad habit or even a single dishonest decision. (Respect, integrity, friends, trust, job, freedom, possibly even a marriage...) Be mindful of your choices. Be honest in all you do. Make your integrity one of the most important attributes you have and the rewards will be enormous and life long. But keep in mind that even one bad choice can ruin it all for a long time and it takes alot of work to get it back. I wish the best for The_Natural. He has a long road ahead of him if he chooses to take it.
  10. My dad tought me how to trout fish. My best friend introduced me to bass fishing. Bass Resource taught me how to catch bass.
  11. I needed that laugh this morning. Thanks
  12. Clay is a good friend of ours here at BassResource.com. He is an awesome guy. If anyone ever has a chance to meet him you will totally be amazed at how cool he is.
  13. I'm on the home stretch of a second 15hr shift in a row. That's how it is every weekend for me. I work weekend nights with a 10hr and two 15s. It's a huge hospital and a major trauma center so I stay pretty busy.
  14. I guide a small lake in your neck of the woods and this time of the year I'm concentrating on the creek channel and the deepest water. Outside turns, stumps, junctions, anything different will hold bass. I start off with a crankbait and end with a jig. Slow is the game most of the time. If they are on a reaction bite then I will yo-yo a jighead fluke jr.
  15. I thought the same thing when I saw them at ICAST. So I sat down with the designer/builder and picked his brain. I tell you what, he knows his stuff. He used to build rods for a major bass rod company and he has branched off to build a more affordable rod that appeals to the new angler. The actions are spot on and their sensitivity is comparable to the old style All-Stars. I liked them.
  16. I love pictures of Italian bass. They are always healthy. Great catches.
  17. Light on the tension, High on the velocity, low to the water. Then stop on your target and quickly drop your rod tip for an light entry.
  18. Thanks for the kind words Peter. Welcome to the family.
  19. Peanut oil has the best flavor from the start. I don't like the taste of things cooked in fresh vegetable oil.

It's a hard one this year. Very very close. Colt might have messed it up Saturday. Ingram made a great argument for himself. But there is the rest of the season to think about. So who knows. I think it will be the closest voting in years.
  21. We aren't doggin Shimano at all. Two business just couldn't come to an agreement. It happens. We are not going to make it a public explosion. We are sorry that Dan can't continue to do what he does best here on BR. We'll miss you man.
  22. Like Keri said. Please go to the Everything Else section to find out what happend to the Shimano Forum.
  23. First of all I would hope that those wanting to learn more about fishing crankbaits would read this thread and see it as it is. One angler comparing his opinions to another angler's and using that contrast to teach more details on a subject. Now please take some time to get to know Chris. Look through his posts and see a guy with a good hart who loves to teach. If you insist on some type of record I can always start a pole. "Who's taught you more about crankbait fishing." Paul or Chris. I'm pretty sure that Chris would come out on top of that unfair pole. There is no doubt that Paul is an awesome crankbait fisherman, he is one of my favorite pros. But I have never seen Paul on here on any other website, forum, or venue sharing the amount of information that Chris has shared here on BR. Maybe someday but not yet. Teaching is what BR is all about. So who is willing to teach and who is willing to learn? If you choose to do neither then please don't discourage those who are trying to grow this sport through teaching.
  24. Who has experience that is actually recorded means absolutely nothing to me. In the past several years Chris has taught me a large percentage of the things that I know about crankbait fishing. Paul Elias has taught me nothing because I'm not willing to pay for it. The fishing industry will continue to shrink if people continue to try to sell their knowledge and others think that the only information worth anything comes from a select few.
