  1. i own that boats grandboat. 1958 lone star. the thing is a tank. http://www.ktb.net/~johno/nascar/z64rpics/0000000000000.jpg
  2. id keep a close eye on the flea market. 2 rods that id buy under $70 are the BPS Extreme and the Berkley Shock.
  3. we used to get pulled by horse and rope on a big scoop shovel. d**n i feel old now.......
  4. Along those lines, just today I received another BPS Pro Qualifier baitcaster reel that I bought on eBay for $40 shipped - smooth, as good as new, dual braking. I'm pairing it with an Extreme rod that I got at the $59 price. PQ+Extreme=$99. Of course, there is some risk in buying used reels on eBay... well, the reason i say the Abu 4600 series is 2 things: there will be parts for the things for a long long time. 99.9% of the world service the reel, including Reel Mechanic.
  5. id go a different route. id look on ebay for a 4600 series abu then buy the Extreme rod for $59
  6. oh ya. im sure i wasnt the only one to pop a BB out of my skin like a zit.
  7. this and Katrina. ill never forget where i was and what i was doing 9/11.
  8. You feel the bag with acetelyne? We do that in Agriculture at school with milk cartons and blow them up... maybe I should put that on my list lol ;D If we get caught.. we are sooo dead.... i REALLY REALLY would advise to not do this. in fact im deleting the post after this. this was not something that went "poof", it went BOOM. then the police came, followed by the fire department. the fact we didnt die was pure luck.
  9. which is why shooting weak hand youre more prone for problems. i like all guns, being a gun nut. i rented a Sig 229 in .40 today and was impressed. having huge potato peeler hands limits me on grip size however. it took me a long time to break the habit of re-gripping the gun in-between rounds and shooting small frame guns does not give me the secure grip "feel" mid size guns do.
  10. Yup there is the prob. Had done one-way bearings like that for years when they first came out (middle 90's). Do not know what changed but all of a sudden the one-way packs didn't like the grease and when I switched over to a light oil swab things really got a lot better.. I blow my one-ways out with 60psi on my compressor, the only time I have ever had the pin bearings come out is if the pin bearing frame is damaged. You can see the pressure point that keeps the pin bearing in place, if it is damaged the pin will fall out no matter how you try to hold it during re-assembly... BTW none of this should be done on the dinning room table, you need a well lit work area with room to do it right... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!! the plot thickens. the needles ALL fell out durring the soak. thats why i used grease to hold the bearing together. looks like a call to Daiwa is in order.
  11. im not a fan of the 7' casting rods. id like to have the reel mount a bit higher on the blank.
  12. Nope the one-way is part ref.#84 and, the sleeve is part ref.#83. The ref. part #85 is the crank support bearing pack. You will need to brake the reel down if the one-way will come out then remove and soak in a good de-greaser super hot water and simple green (no alcohol or acetone or the likes).. This bearing pack is mostly poly/graphite with pin bearings do not use anything that will eat up the pin bearing frame. Clean it and dry it well then use an oil saturated q-tip and swab the inside only a couple of time that's it..... re-assemble the reel and you should have a solid AR... Yup, put that SOL in a box and send it to jfrancho, he runs Reel Smooth Reels, this guys like a Houdini when comes to tuning Thanks for your support... :-?Good Luck & Tight Lines All!!! ok. theres the problem. i assembled the one-way like i would any needle bearing. i held the thing together with grease after the bath then re-installed. oops
  13. tonight im going to re-clean everything. then assemble the thing dry and see if there is back play.
  14. we got a taste of this with the Sol and Fuego getting the axe.
  15. the handle spins backwards 1/4 turn easy, sometimes 1/2 turn .the one way bearing? this is the baitcaster, i didnt know they have a one way bearing. it could be backwards, or even in the wrong spot...heh. which bearing is the one way bearig? i assume its part #85? http://www.mikesreelrepair.com/schematics/albums/daiwa/Daiwa_TD_SOL.pdf
  16. i change my mind. prison has a nice ring for this guy. i wonder if his wife ever wondered whats up...
  17. id be looking for a bass boat with a rotted transom, sell the motor, and convert the rest. any boat rated to hold the gear youve outlined and 4 ppl is going to be large.
  18. ive been playing musical bearings with this thing for a week or so and tonight i notice theres some back play in the handle. i took the thing apart again and id swear everything is where it should be. any ideas on why the anti reverse is not anti reversing?
  19. i hate to sound like a homer but........... the Shimano Compre 7' M XF is a great DS rod. has a great feel and is not tip heavy in the least. id also look at the Falcon Lowrider XG 7' M. a hugely under rated rod.
  20. id check rod ratings. i never like to fish baits that are heavier than the rod rating. a lot of 7' MH rods will be rated to 1 oz baits..
  21. this time of the year i do a few things. strap a sidearm on and walk lakes looking for crank baits. you can find new places to fish as well doing this. i clean all my gear. reels get a total breakdown. rods get hit with Meguiars cleaner and the handles are hit with magic eraser. one could also seal the handles. my boat gets detailed. all the while im hunting so......... 3 months goes by fast.
  22. I guess everyone missed Glenn's post to let it go? To all the people crying about somone saying a bad thing about a Shimano real.....Take a look in the mirror. As over and over products are dismissed as junk because they aren't shimano. : Apparently you need to actually READ the post I made. I said in that post in may well cast GREAT. But I'm not taking your word for it. Because before actually checking them out, I would have had to take everone at their word of how smooth they are.....Which would have been a mistake. I did not "throw out" a comment about when my post will disappear. In fact BECAUSE I made that comment is the ONLY reason the stuff stayed up. I have had my postes deleted and edited several times now. And I feel it all stems from a signature I had that a mod didn't like. im not really seeing that on this forum.
  23. so ah.................... if his Steez collection is listed cheap will you bid?????
