hey! Anyone have one of those new fenwick Elite-Tech rod's?
That's the Crankshaft, right? I have the 7'3" crankshaft MH-MF rod. I do like it. It's not my favorite rod, but its good and gets the job done. It's nicely built, if a bit heavy. It is tip heavy. But it has nice components. The guides are double-footed Fuji Alconties all the way to the tip. The cork is very nice. The reel lock down is the foregrip. I've never been a big fan of foregrips that are the lock down, but this rod does it well. The grip behind the reel is nice. It's about 9.5 inches and has a nice knob at the end. It gives a great sense of control with two handed casts. The action is a little disconcerting, because the upper half is glass and the lower half is graphite. So you only get a parabolic bend in the upper half of the rod. It's not a big deal when you get used to it, but it will feel a bit weird if you move to it from a 100% glass rod. What you do get is a feeling of backbone and I have not had a problem getting fish in on my rod. The rod does cast great. Paired with my Zillion High-Power, I can throw DD22 a great distance. thats good to know. im looking at 6'6" rods because it helps with the whole tip heavy thing. im mounting a Sol on the rod so it should be a good set-up for shallow cranks.

long morning on cedar lake
drove out to cedar lake for some largemouth this morning. from the beginning it was one of those days. had to use jumper cables from one of the trolling motor batteries just to get the motor to crank. ran up and down the lake to get some charge on the cranking battery then got to fishing. the first 3 hours we zero'd. we could see the bait fish schooling and jumping be we couldnt beg a bite. after hours of nothing we ran down to the park side of the lake. this part of the lake has 2 things, riprap, and a ton of busted off line from ppl fishing off the bank. i caught a small fish right away. then i get hung up in what i think is sunken fishing line. wrong. im hung up in a casting net. i pull this nasty casting net on the boat because im not about to leave a lucky craft 1.5 hung up in it. the net is full of rusty hooks. i cut my bait out and notice that other unlucky anglers also lost cranks to this net. i cut 4 more out. finaly back to fishing. get hung up again and like a tard tried to pop the bait loose too hard and busted my rod. after i get through cussing myself i pick up the jig rod and boat the 2nd fish on the first cast. by this time im done. my good friend zero'd which to me is the worst part of the day. he just got into this bass fishing thing and i really wanted to put him on one of the big fish this lake gives up. theres always tomorrow and now i get to start looking for a new rod.

Random crankbait use question
i use all types of cranks. for me i theres no one form of hard bait i prefer over another. this year did seem like the year of the lipless bait but last year was the balsa wood bait. one of my fav. baits hasnt been made for years and thanks to some good folks here i still get new ones once in a while. brand names are the standard names you always see. rapala, bomber, strike king, lucky craft, xcalibur, this list goes on. on my shallow cranks i like 10 lbs yo-zuri hybrid ultra soft. everything else im old school and use 14 lbs mono. using this bait is like using any other bait, you want to run it through the strike zone, sometimes that means long casts, other times short. casting distance will come with gear. for smaller cranks/shallow i have a Sol mounted on a Falcon Lowrider 6'6" M. 3/8 oz is as heavy as i go with this rig.

Need help choosing a casting reel
you will like the E7. if you wanted to spend a little more you could strap a Zillion on the rod.

St Croix Mojo vs. Shimano Compre - spinning rod
100% correct. both of my Mojo's are 7' rods, if someone has to have a Mojo rod id look at the 6'6" rods first to help with the tip heavy problem.
