swimbait line
To answer the original post.... I would HIGHLY suggest tying on a leader of some sort. The main reason is, if you get a backlash while throwing a semi heavy bait, your sure to snap braid, especially 30#. Adding a 5-10ft leader of some sort gives the line just enough stretch to eliminate this possibility. Once again, i'm not sure the size/weight of bait you are throwing, but I've casted off wake jr's while throwing them on 50# braid, it doesn't take alot to snap them off. It's also the abraision resistance factor. So if your running a 5-10ft leader, you have more abraision resistance when running around rocks, trees, etc than braid. If you are set on using braid, I HIGHLY suggest using 50 # minimum. Personally I wouldn't use anything less than 65 for baits 2+ oz's. Even then I would be sure to have a leader Hammer - When I first started throwing swimbaits (1-2oz) I too used 12# CX. Back then I didn't know any better. Looking back on it I was lucky not to loose any big fish or baits. I think 10-12# will work in "normal" situations, but when swimbait fishing you always want to be prepared for the un-expected. That's why we don't use the minimun # line. I can think of a handful of times last year where I would of easily lost fish (as well as $40+ baits) if I were using lighter line because the fish took me around a tree or stump. But to each his own I personally use P-Line CXX on all my swimbait rods. I've gone through a handful of brands and finally decided this is my stuff. 30# CXX for 6+oz baits 25# CXX for 3-5oz baits 20# CXX for 1-3oz baits Add a little KVD line and lure conditioner and your set. Good luck!!!

The perfect jig combo
BINGO!!!! That's why I started making them myself. I have my cost down (not including my time) to around $1.00 to $1.25 per jig. What's great about it is there is hardly any work for me to do... i'm not pouring the lead. I found a company that pours near perfect jig heads from .35c to .65c. They have a great selections of Gammy and Owner hooks. Then i'm buying skirts from Russ at *** for ~.50c. The only part I HATE is powder painting them. But I just found out the place I buy jigs from will powder paint them for an extra .05c per ;D. It's nice being able to break of jigs and not give a sh!$

Yellow Stone Park Any Help?
Details are a little fuzzy as it's been 5 years or so. I actually kept a journal of the trip (We took two weeks, visited 8 states, and at least 4 National Parks). I'll go through the pics and Journal and see what other places we went to. I know some other cool places in yellowstone... but just can't remember the names. :-/ Are you tent camping, trailer, hotel?

Go to lure
Well if the Wake Jr. isn't working, I'll pick up the fairy wand and start dropshotting fish. There aren't many lakes that I can't get a fish dropshotting. My go to DS worm would be a 5" Pro Worm in Pro Gold w/ small red or purple flake. 8-)

Whats Gone Wrong?
First off, I don't think it's the "Job" of the members at large nor did I state so. But I can see where one would assume that. Just as we members guide/help/direct/push/educate other members on fishing related maters, we also can guide/help/direct/push/educate members on how to better use this forum. That's all we are doing. I used to be a moderator/webmaster for a forum that had 250+ active members and I was the sole mod. I'll tell you what, between my normal life and keeping up with the forum and website, I could hardly keep up at times. So I can only image what our mods go through with 20,000+ members. If I can help out by educating our members on rules (i.e. They ask about how to fish a senko, i'll point them to the Senko Sticky), i'll do so. I'm not going to go out of my way as a mod would, but i'll attach a link, or tell them to do a search for XXX bait. I'm not going to "Alert the Mod" every time this happens. They would probably ban me ;D . That's cool, we can agree to disagree ;D

Whats Gone Wrong?
It shouldn't have to be that way though. There's been a few kids I've seen get scared away because of grammar problems or asking too many questions. Alright, so lets start with grammar/spelling - One of the best tools that distinguishes this forum from all others is the "Check Spelling" link. It's offered to all members, they should use it. If the kid is really that bad at spelling, then maybe our "constructive criticism" might help him at some point. It has nothing to do with asking too many questions. It has everything to do with bringing up questions that were already discussed on the first page or subjects that have been beaten to death, then beaten again, like somebody asking how to use a Senko. There have been lots of kids on here asking tons of questions. I remember one kid that owned half the thread topics on the first page of the Fishing Tackle forum. Yes, some of it was discussed before, but a majority of it hadn't been discussed in over a year. Ahh! Haaa! This is exactly the point articcatt500 was making. Totally uncool ;D Your totally uncool <----see, it's a smiley, that means i'm allowed poke at you But in all seriousness, I think a big part of it is getting to know a members personality. Each person is very unique. I remember when I first joined, Muddy sent me a PM poking at me and giving me a hard time. I thought he was being a jerk, but that's him just being himself ;D . Being new I didn't know any better but now i'm fully aware of everyone's personality . The mods created a sticky called "Read Me - Before Posting Questions" for a reason, if a member doesn't want to follow directions, we'll call them out on it. This isn't something new that we have been doing, it's been going at least since i've been here. And i'll continue the tradition, and my kids will follow in my footsteps. This isn't done to be mean, to be a a$.s, to single out members, it's meant to help guide these members in the right direction. If we let members "Run Loose", this forum will end up like many other forums :'( and will go down hill quick Just my .02c 8-)

Yellow Stone Park Any Help?
I would definately go to Old Faithul. Not only is it just that one geyser, but there are another 2 or 3 really cool ones and about 2 miles of walkway that take you throw lots of pools, etc. Including the Glory Pool which is pretty cool. There is also alot to see around Yellowstone Lake Oh, and don't stop to see every single buffalo/Bison along the way when you first get there. You will see 1000's of them by trips end. I hated the people that would stop in the middle of the road just because there was 1 buffalo. Now if you see a bear, feel free to stop . When your driving, you'll know where the wildlife is because you will see 20+ cars stopped in the middle of the road taking pics. Enjoy your time there, I went about 5 years ago and really miss it. I've been fortunate enought to have visited 7 National Parks. I would say that Yosemite and Yellowstone would be in the top 3.

tylure sunfish bed bait
They get bit. My buddy had one. It wouldn't swim straight, so he used it strictly as a bed bait. Got a new that swam better, then the hooks broke. I personally wouldn't spend money on it, but like I said, it gets bit, and at the time was getting better looks from the fish than mattlures bluegill (Nothing against your baits Matt, just one of those days that they preferred hard food ;D)

think im sold on these..any input.. baitmonkey??
The yabbies are a joke. They may look real outside the water, but the action (Or lack of) is pretty unrealistic. +1 for the hudbugs. I no longer use any other plastic craw imitations. Although they don't include a hook like the R2S, this gives you more options to rig it, thus they become more versitile. I would MUCH rather supply my own hook to have a much more realistic craw.

Long drought...water level down
BINGO!!! Some of the lakes got to there lowest point in 5-6 years last summer. At one lake, between 4bizz and I, we found numerous trout fishing flashers, dodgers, a GL2/Citica combo (Good shape), and outboard, a downrigger/Ball, found 3-4 other combos, lots of lures including terminator spinnerbaits, 1 lucky craft crankbait, a huddleston I lost 2 months prior, and lots of rapalas. It was sure cool to search the bank in hopes of finding lures. While 75% of the lures we found were rusted or unusable, there was plenty of salvagable gear. Also with the low water level, take pictures and mark waypoints on the GPS of structure and cover that is normally underwater. Take advantage of the low level and learn the lake!
