  1. Some very good questions. First off, go big or go home!!!! When I night fish, my main baits are a 1 oz jig with a big trailer, 13in worm, big brush hog, 9in slammer, 9 in stocker trout. You get the picture. My logic is use a bait that displaces the most water. Since the fish aren't going to see it as well as daytime, you need to interest their other senses, like hear and feel. Use jigs with rattles, insert your own rattles in plastics. Noisy topwater baits. All my night baits are dark in color. Don't use lights, my logic is anything "un-natural" will scare them off. Plus white lights tend to attrack bugs. Your eyes will get used to the little available light. It helps if you are close to a city that has ambient light or a moon helps as well. I have a small headlamp that I use after I hook a fish or when retying. I try to shine my lamp on the water as little as possible. I don't know the logic about the black bait, all I know is that it works, hopefully someone can give you an explanation. Good luck with your night time adventure. During the summer, it's the only way to go. Just remember, it takes a little while to adjust to feeling and sensing how to fish instead of seeing everything.
  2. There are certain people who will give you a hard time, don't worry about them... you ARE entitled to your limit. Nice fish
  3. I do not agree with that. Gotta agree!!!! That is not always to case. I've stuck fish on a trout bait in a pond where trout don't exist. IMPY03 - Where you saying you wanted info on "swimbaits", or 4" "sissy shad's" : Big difference!!! Just make sure you know what your getting yourself into!!!
  4. lol, that's the muddy we remember.
  5. Hmmmmm..... ^ Coming from man with a connection!?!?!?!?! Your such an instigator bizz. Just jokin bud. Anyways, 3:16's are legit!!! For all you that are unsure about the jr and are having a hard time even thinking about laying 80 down on a bait, just think, it's a FLOATER. for me, that was the main reason I got it. You break it off, it's floating (just make you get it before the birds get it) and chances are, if you break it off on a fish (probably from using your $40 rod) it's gonna toss it and you'll get it back. Even know the odds aren't great, it's better than buying a 80 sinker. I've caught 5 fish on the jr and all over 5. I haven't given it much time, but i'll usually give it a few casts every trip. For me, this is in my top 3 lures of fish to weight ratio, only the hudd, and x-rap are better for me. Plus, most people who are thinking about buying a wake jr are not newbie's to swimbaiting and they should understand the importance of proper gear. I will admit however that my first wake jr fish I threw on a citica 200 with 50# braid on a BPS Extreme MH, only because I was too lazy to take off my hudd from my SB setup. The fish was only a 5 but worked me WAY harder than my 9 and that was 100% due to the totally wrong setup. Moral of the story...... it's worth every penny of $80.
  6. I like the customization t-rig. Did you notice any difference on the wake it gives off or just the noise???
  7. I'm a big fan of the 3:16 wake jr. I've been stickin some good fish on them lately. I very rarely catch a fish by just reeling it in. I fish it almost like a jerk bait (jerk jerk - pause - slow roll - jerk jerk - pause) I just stuck a couple fish last night by just dead sticking the bait. I like to use them in any low light condition. Cloudy, early morning, late evening, even night time. I have never had any luck with blue bird skys and sunny though. It was hard to fork out $90 for a bait, but I figured if it breaks off, it's going to float. The M.S. Slammer is a pretty sweet bait too, I prefer to throw it at night since it's wood and can take a cast into the bank. It's also cheaper and comes in a few sizes. Haven't had any luck with it but the A.C. Plug as well. You don't need any special rod.reel to throw it. BTW Brian, I've been off this site for awhile, where you able to get any fish with the mattlures I gave you.
  8. Why would you use 8# dia. braid for bbz's??? not to call you out or anything, but 20#+ mono is recommended for most "real" swimbaits. It's all about line capacity, with 25# test on 200 size reel, you could throw a 10" 2X4 with a 15 mph wind at your back a country mile. Say you backlash and have to cut off 15 yards. You take your bait through some rocks maybe 10 times through the day, each time cutting off 2 yards, don't forget about each time you retie a new bait, clipping off a foot or too. Well now your getting low on line, with a 400 size reel and this situation, you would have plenty of extra line. When throwing the big baits, you don't want to skimp on your equimpment. Usually when throwing big baits, your fishing for that one big fish, you don't want to kick yourself for losing that big fish because you skimped out on your reel.
  9. I must say i'm very jealous, it's been one year almost to the day since I was up there. There is nothing like it!!! The 100% deet is an absolute must. I remember taking the drive from anchorage to kenai and stoping at a rive to take some pics. I was setting up the camera on a rock to take a pic and in a matter or 10 seconds, my hand had over a dozen skeeters on it. Absolutely crazy. Have fun and take some cool pics
  10. I just started throwing x-raps this year and as far as my fish to weight ratio, this lure ranks among the top, right under the 8in hudd. I have only caught a half dozen fish, but 4 have been over 5 and 2 right at 4. I think it's a great lure for the price and this is another lure i have gained confidence in this year. I believe the sequence of jerks and pauses determines success, it just depends on what the fish want.
  11. Around 7:30 or so. Just as it was getting dark. Early March. 9-1
  12. I used to do a ton of wheelin. We have a famout trail out here called the "Rubicon" It's a NARLY trail. I did a little bit of it with truck (4X4 Nissan) and have done almost half of it with my dirtbike. I always get a thrill when my tires hit the dirt.
  13. +1. That's what I started out with... well I still have it as one of my swimbait rods and it is a great combo. You Might be able to get away with the 300, but if you can afford the extra 10 bucks, get the 400. It's bigger, heavier, but it's worth it for the extra line.
  14. I own the 7'2" M Dropshot spinning rod. For the money, it is an awsome rod. I also use it for shaky head, light jigs, wacky rig. The warranty is pretty sweet too, After I used it for the first time, I was bringing it into the house and the door closed on it and broke off one foot of the tip. Took it to a local shop and 15 bucks later had a brand new rod. You can't go wrong with a crucial.
  15. I got fooled on that one before. THanks for trying though
  16. Those are definately funny being on the outside, but if I was the one who had to fork out thousands of $$$ for some moron eating my dog food and drinking my pepsi.... that kind of crap gets me really fired up. I really want to know why the jury would award a moron like this money for being a complete idiot!!!!
  17. If you have that much vis. Fish will come up aways for the bait. 4bizz was saying one time that he was fishing in 100ft of water with fish suspending somewhere around 20-25 and coming and eating surface baits.
  18. I'll second that.... come and get some of these west coast hogs!!! Very nice Glenn.... Couldn't of picked a better song for the vid!!!
  19. Hey Brain... was just reading this (http://www.swimbaitnation.com/swimbaitarticles.html) article and thought about your thread. Read the one about wakebaits. It has some good info in there, especially the cost to benefit ration paragraph, for your current situation.
  20. I'm not the biggest Celtics fan, but i've always been a fan of KG so i'm voting for them. They definately need to step it up on the road
  21. First bass lure.... 5in senko First lure of all time.... Kastmaster
  22. You learn the hard way not to buy the cheapo stuff. Stick to the quality proven baits. It is very tough, but when first throwing swimbaits, it usually takes awhile to get your first quality fish. I know it took me about 1 1/2 years to get my first "QUALITY FISH" (Over 6#'s). Before that, I only had a half dozen fish on them. A majority of the time, it's an all or nothing type deal. When I first started throwing big baits, the first 3 trips I brought my swimbaits and nothing else. In those three trips, I had one decent follwer (5+) and a 1 1/2# smallie that attacked a 8" BBZ. DON"T GIVE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!
  23. Don't get too worked up about it. I've had it happen 4 times. Everytime it gets resolved very quickly and I get 100% of my $$$ back.
  24. The other day I filled up my truck in the morning. It was 3.95 for the cheap stuff. I just happened to look at deisel and it was 4.79. I drove past it that night and the cheap stuff went up to 4.05 and desiel hit 5.09. I was in total awwwwww. To see that $5 sign up was just amazing. I feel very sorry for all the truckers out there trying to make a living. $5 a gallon on a 100+ gallon tank is ridiculous.
