I have used Mike at Delaware Valley Tackle for service on both rods and reels. I have been more than satisfied each time. Contact him, he will be able to tell you what he can do, how much, and what type of performance increase to expect. He is a sponsor here, and is on these boards sharing his knowledge frequently.

Bass Pro Shops Pro Qualifier
I have owned several, bought new and used, and never had a problem with any. As an added benefit, if bought on sale they can be had for 80 bucks. Fish it one season, then send to Mike at DVT to have it cleaned and lubed, you will more than pleasantly surprised at the performance. Very good reels, IMO.

Red Hooks?
I am in the crowd that believes red hooks make no difference...at least for me.

Rude Fishermen Rant
I fish waters that are heavily pressured during spring, summer, and fall here in Ohio by both fishermen/women and pleasure boaters. I have had several "encounters" where others have "poached" MY waters...or at least so I thought. I had the opportunity to fish with a friend on a lake near Columbus. There were people standing literally next to one another fishing...we walked over, my friend says hows the fishing, gets several replies, and then my friend says....mind if we cut in over here...nothing but welcome invitations. Really changed my perspective. Many folks, standing together fishing, having a great time. I caught three within about 10 minutes to which one guy loudly states...you only been here 10 minutes...obviously beginners luck...sounds corny but was very funny at the time. During the summer months on my home lake...I have starting fishing from about midnight to whenever in the morning...almost no pressure, very peaceful...and downright eerie at times. Kinda exciting

Favorite Brand
Gander mountain house brand "senko", in watermelon purple. The fish really like it, and I buy them when on sale I get 3 packs of 15 worms for 10.00 bucks.

Ufc Clay Guida
I love the way he fights ...goes all out all the time...however, was really disappointed with his game plan vs. Gray Maynard... He and his camp must have a ton of respect for maynard as a fighter to run like they did during that fight.

Jerkbaits...for The Bank Fisherman?
As an update, I have been fishing jerkbaits a lot over the last couple weeks. I have been catching one to 4 fish every time I go...on a jerkbait. It is really odd, but I have found I have to try not only different retrieves, but different jerkbaits. Yesterday, the two fish I caught were on a XR-8 rapala x-rap..today...caught two on an Xr-6...after I had thrown the XR-8 size. Also, even though it is getting pretty cold here in Ohio, I have had better luck, at least up to this point, with a more steady jerk, jerk, pause...for about 8 seconds or so, than I have letting the lure sit for 20-30 seconds. Again, thanks to all for the input.

Whats Your Favorite Spinnerbait?
I like the booyah spinnerbaits in the 3/4 ounce size. I usually get them at cabelas and they are 4.99, making them the least expensive I have found. I then change up the blades at my discretion. I also use the strike king KVD painted blade models. Forgot to add...strikezone master blaster hidden weight spinnerbaits...very nice with double willow blades that are hammered with edges scalloped?

"best Hookset Ever!!"
I lost one in the water...off the bank! I have a really arthritic knee, and was fishing on one of the causeways where water flows under a state route. I went to step up one step, hit that bone on bone painful spot in my knee, lost my balance and I was trying not to fall into the water, I realized that I threw/dropped my spinning rod/reel in the drink. It took me two different days of trying, but I did catch it back!

Any Taylor Swift Fans?
I have to first say I am not a Taylor Swift fan, but my take on country music is that the lines between a lot of music are becoming less and less defined. I heard a country song not long ago...Trace Adkins maybe?...where the singer was actually talking ...er, rapping... I think much of todays country is really more like what used to known as "pop" Just my opinion.

Your "first" Purchases
First fishing purchase....after father-in-law passed ...He used to take my little girl fishing...so I stepped up, took daughter to walmart and purchased a zebco 33 for me, a barbie combo for her, a small Barbie tackle box, and two heddon torpedo lures, two spinnerbaits, and two black jitterbugs. Side note, she lost interest as that summer wore on, and I gained interest....Suffice it to say, but the 5'8" 250 lb squatty linebacker-type (Me) carrying the Barbie tackle box got more than a few weird looks

Bps Cranking Stick Or Cumara Reaction
I have not fished that particular cumara, nor have I fished the current edition of the BPS crankin stick. I do have some of the cumara rods and have owned and fished the previous version of the crankin stick. I would absolutely spend the 130.00 on the cumara vs spending 105.37 for the crankin stick (which is cost of the rod plus tax plus shipping to my house). When you view it in those terms...at least to me...the decision would be to purchase the cumara and never look back.

Great Wife......
Sadly, my wife shows absolutely no interest in fishing with me. She does say, however, that when we get a boat, she will ride along and read, sun, enjoy the outdoors as I fish. On the other hand, she is very understanding about me going fishing. Plus, she is smart, beautiful, fun-loving, and a terrific mother...Obviously, I married way over my head.

Delaware Valley Tackle
I too have used Mike's services for my reels, and he has done some outstanding work on a couple rods that needed repaired. All at a very fair price.

Problems Casting Jerkbaits On Baitcaster.
I too prefer to throw jerkbaits on spinning gear. I just have an easier time working the rod with my right hand and reeling with my left...baitcasters are right handed. Also, at least for me, it is much easier on my body to use spinning gear. As such, I have no problems casting any jerkbait.

Bps Pro Qualifier Bc Reel – 5-Year Challenge – Three Years In
Great Job Goose. I always enjoy reading your posts. Thanks for taking the time and making the effort to share the information. As a side note to others...if you don't have the time/skill to clean your own reels, send them to Mike at DVT...a board sponsor...his work is very fairly priced and the results gained are well worth the price.
