  1. The greatest depleter of DO is rainwater as it in itself is void of DO. Heavy rainfall and its associated runoff is the most prevalent cause of fish kills in lakes and waters already having low disolved oxygen. Wow great info. I certainly was not aware of that. Good post.
  2. Did you see I gave you credit in the above post for taking part? I want to give you a chance when we fish the big pond together.
  3. Confidence is nothing more than applying the knowledge aquired over the years to a certain set of circumstances.
  4. Maybe you intimidate some with all your knowledge. If they are serious I suggest they jump in here and ask some silly questions so you can help them clear the air. They have a chance to really step up their game if they will get involved.
  5. Marsh Master if you do not have it I reccommend Navionics Hot Maps Explorer. It can be purchased for 19.95 from several different sites. I bought mine from Three Rivers Marine and they charged 8.95 shipping if you are interested.
  6. Great, glad someone is paying attention. If you ever have to fish Sam Rayburn let me know and I will help you. I was afraid that he would cancel due to the lack of response. Thanks for replying. I am sure Long Mike is paying attention also.
  7. I'm a little put out with the members on this site. Catt, is taking the time to give instructions on toledo bend and so far I am the only one that is making any attempt to be involved. I know most of you are not close to this lake, but so what! The first lesson was invaluable in ways to read a map and the type of deep water structure you should be looking for this time of year.. If you do not have a map, go on line and look one up just to help you with your map study. The areas he pointed out are duplicated on most lakes around the country. He has told us what to look for and how to line up and fish the areas. I am 59 years old and have been fishing tournaments since I was 16, and I cannot wait for further information. Every day someone post for help fishing an area. If you will pay attention to what this man has to say it will really help each and every one of you. Even if you have no map of this lake it will help you understand the maps you have as well as the type of structure that you should attack at this time of year, reguardless of the lake you are fishing. As for me, I am not tired of winning tournaments and plan on entering and placing in as many as my health will allow me to for the rest of my life. Get involved people. It will help you be a better fisherman. It would be nice if some of the other fishermen in other parts of the country that are versed on their home waters would do the same. Sorry for the rant, I'm off the soap box now.
  8. Throw them on a c-rig and watch what happens.
  9. Mustad straight shank 1/0 or 2/0. there is no reason to fish a wide gap hook on a trick worm. A straight shank will allow a more direct pull through the worm than any wide gap hook. Larry Nixon and a lot of the other pros have made a great living fishing the straight shank hook.
  10. Get out a q-tip and check the rod guides. Fish a heavier line. If you are going to fish 8lb stick with a spinning reel.
  11. Yup, many times. Last time on Toledo Bend my birddog went over the bow while I was fishing. He swam back by and I reached down with both hands to lift him in. While I am holding him I kicked an Allstar with a core mg over the side in twenty ft. of water. I put my dog down and just rubbed on him for a while. After all it wasn't his fault.
  12. I would probably be better guessing the weight of the sneakers since I don't catch many fish that size. Most of mine are in the 7-12" size.
  13. Anyone that wants to go just let me know. Would love to fish with someone if you would like to go just let me know. For what it is worth I am leading our club with 89lbs(6 tournaments), and I do not intend to give up the lead. The entry fee is 25.00 and that includes pot for big bass. Guest do qualify for the money, just no points. We should have between 20 and 28 people fishing. This is not a team tournament. Every man for himself.
  14. I doubt you would be lost as to what to do. the offer stands if you change your mind.
  15. What a shame. I would love to fish with you. Without a doubt I would learn a lot. Someother time.
  16. I change my batteries EVERY 18 months.
  17. Our club is fishing our monthly tournament out of San Augustine Park on Sam Rayburn next Saturday night. Tournament hours are 7:00pm - 8:00am. If anyone is interested my back seat is open if you would like to fish. Pm me or call me at 281 224-8853. There will be no charge for any expenses. Just bring your own tackle and drinks. Thanks, Jack
  18. If you want to keep your access to that pond you better sit down and talk to the owner or manager about it. You may find your welcome revolked very quickly if you start to manage a gift you have been given without permission.
  19. Right now on Sam Rayburn the frog fishing is hot. Tons of large bass being caught on them. These fish are not deep, just laying up in the heavy grass.
  20. I would not eat out of my subdivision retention pond, too many chemicals. No more than any other body of water around the country.
  21. I have a Lazer II 22P three blade or a Trophy three blade 23P or a lazer II 4 blade 22P for the identical boat and HP if anyone of the three will help. Also, a three blade 23P stainless name unknown, it has been to the prop shop and was originally a 22P. All hubs are in good shape. Let me know. I own a 88 Starfire 175 and these have all been run on the boat. I will guarantee any of the above.
  22. Great picture. He will remember it the rest of his life. I was on the lake several years ago and a young boy caught his first bass and the father had no camera. We trolled over to him and let him use ours so he would have a picture. What a wonderful experience for the youngster. I'm not quite sure who had the biggest grin, the father or the son. Try to always have a camera, you never know what you will see out on the water.
  23. Did you remove the anode? The bolt that holds it also holds the lower unit to the mid section on most of the Mercs.
  24. Nice fish. Not one of them is worth a trip to the ER in my opinion. Check out the how to articles on hook removal and it may save you some $$$ and a trip off the water the next time. Glad it all worked out.
