  1. Anyone have an opinion on these lipless cranks? I bought a couple today at Dick's (salesman told me that even thought they were marked 6.99 they were included in the "daiwa, xcalibur, and matzuo hardbaits for 2.99 sale, so thats what I paid!). I like the look of them, and after throwing a sureset tail hook on, I am pretty pumped to get them in the water. *Note: lots of good crankbait/zoom softbait sales at Dicks right now!
  2. I'd had some misses that really got to me, but this one was a shot in the pills for sure.
  3. I'm a relatively inexperienced bass angler, still figuring things out the hard way and learning something new every time I'm on the water. I was out this past weekend, found a nice quiet cove and was throwing a new 1/4oz. lipless crank, caught one crappie, tossed it back in, when I THOUGHT I snagged grass. I gave it a good tug and started reeling in when I noticed I didnt feel the wobble of the lure at the end of the line...right then what would have been my PB Largemouth came flipping out of the water with my crank rattling along with him. I would guess it was about a 4-5 pound fish, which is better than any LMB I have landed thus far. I hated to leave there having lost the lure, fish, and left that fish with a treble hook in his lip. After seeing him try to throw the lure a few times, I tried to re-catch him, knowing it wasnt going to happen...and after 40 minutes it was time to head back to the ramp and call it a day. Lesson learned: dont throw a crank in a big-fish spot on a ML spin rod spooled with 8lb mono that hadn't been re-spooled in a month or so(usually my crappie rig) ahhh, what a day!
  4. I bought a Megaforce about two months ago, my first LP baitcaster, and paired it up with the Daiwa Procyon 6'6" MH and I love it. Like I said this is my first real baitcast set-up, but already I love the reel and that rod is tough! I paid about 60 for each I think
  5. We had a similar storm come through on the 13th, 70 mph straightline gusts that crushed one little town of about 15,000 people. Huge trees down, power lines all over the place, 4 inches of rain in one hour pretty much guaranteed flash flooding everywhere. Sounds like you got the same thing, plus some mph on those winds!
  6. I heard about that one too. A barge hit a tanker, buckling the tanker and leaking like 420,000 gallons of oil. Sounds like that could have been avoided, not very easy to hide a barge or a tanker! http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/07/24/mississippi.spill/
  7. We are still recovering from the storm that rolled through central Ohio last Saturday night! In a town of 40,000 people we had about 150 homes flooded (basements filled, and up to 2 feet in ground floor). These were flash floods from 3 inches of rain in about an hour, so not very many folks had flood insurance...what a mess to clean up, with no gov't funds!
  8. I bought a daiwa megaforce (with the twitchin bar) about a month ago and have no complaints. Its smooth and so far feels pretty tough, definitely worth the $50 I paid for it!
  9. I just bought and used the spot remover about a week ago and had some pretty good results. I was fishing a river for smallies and wasn't sure how good the bite would be, but with a 6" floating worm I managed 3 smallies in about 2 hours. I definitely liked the spot!
  10. Last night my wife received a call from a phone number that came up on our caller ID as an 801 number listed as TELEPROMOTIONS, they claimed to be associated with Bank of America and were asking her questions regarding her getting a free credit report. She has an account with Bank of America so she listed as they rattled off the last 4 numbers of her account, our address, etc. I stopped her when I realized that we had just gotten the phone number they called about 3 weeks ago, and that Bank of America would not have that number. She called Bank of America, and they verified that the caller was in no way associated with BOA, and put a credit monitoring note on her account. My brother received a similar call just a couple nights ago, and so did one of my co-workers...so beware!
  11. haha, he had to have crossed over the river from covington ;-) This guy should have taken up fishing rather than sitting there bored staring at his picnic table thinking "I wonder if...."
  12. I've had some good luck with Rage Shad (smokey shad) and bought a pack of the frogs in green-pearl, will try them out this weekend, good to know you guys are using the same hooks I'm planning on rigging them with. I hope they work as well for me as they have for you guys!
  13. Sorry Burley, but this incident has nothing to do with anyone being a yankee. There is wildlife and plenty of rural land up north too! I've lived all over the place, and been in the Army with people from every state and island you can think of and I know for a fact that there are idiots everywhere, they are not all born and bred up north! People who are completely ignorant and clueless as to why these creatures are referred to as "WILDlife" should stay in the city, whether that city is Boston or Atlanta makes no difference.
  14. Very rarely do I use something that far exceeds expectations....this is one of those products. Agreed, been using it a couple weeks now, and I'm very happy with it!
  15. Anyone fished this lake before? I'm heading to Knox county for a week of Red Cross Disaster training and during my down time, I am hoping to get some fishing in. I have heard Knox is a great LMB lake, even from shore (where I'll be fishing) but I have also heard its over-crowded, but I dont know of any other place up there to fish. Any ideas, please let me know!
  16. I was just in a GM last weekend to pick up a new rod/reel for fathers day...walked out empty handed. I did notice they sell about everything rapala makes, in every color, but it was hit or miss when it comes to plastics and even hooks/jigheads/etc. I couldnt find the rod or reel I wanted at a decent price, so I thought I'd just pick up some yozuri hybrid, but they only had two and four pound test. I asked the guy behind the counter, and he said "well, thats one of the many things in this place that doesnt make sense anymore" and walked away. That place has taken a nose-dive, they have no clue what to do in their fishing section...no clue Its only more painful that the nearest BPS or Cabelas is 2 hours away!
  17. My first "serious" bass reel was a quantum, and after less than a year, it has been taken off the rod and replaced with an Abu Garcia. First it was broken handle, then it felt like the gearing was dry no matter how many times I cleaned/lubed it. Not worth the hassle, and I know I was missing fish with that thing. It will be a long time before I pick up another quantum.
  18. I just asked the same question on here last week under the title rain gear 101, or something similar. Lots of the same answers there, helpful stuff.

Work for the American Red Cross as an Emergency Services/Health & Safety services Manager for a two county area of west-central Ohio. There are not enough hours in the week for this job, I love it, but its cutting way down on fishing time!
  20. Came across this post from last year in a search on here to find some info on what raingear I want to buy. I thought I'd bring it back to the top to see if anyone has found anything that is improved/new that they love using. I am looking to find something that will work for fishing as well as my job working with the Red Cross. We have a lot of flooding to deal with here atleast a few times a year, from Jan to December, you never know when it will happen. I need something I can throw in a pack and keep in my response vehicle and pull out if need be. I will be purchasing waders for fishing/work purposes also, but simple rain gear is first on the list. *I read quite a bit good and bad about frogg toggs, and after reading the reviews on BPS, I'm definitely not comfortable purchasing those items!
  21. I still have not won a bass boat from any of the raffles I have signed up for, so I am one of the many confined to shore fishing. I try to learn as much from a pond as I can, I just hope that the basic patterns to a small 3 or 4 acre pond will apply to fishing the bigger bodies of water once I do win that bass boat! A lot of what was mentioned before is good advice, especially trying to do things differently, earlier or later in the day/season, and to try different lures/approaches. I have one pond that I pulled two solid 3-4 lb LMB out of in early April, but since it has warmed up and more people are fishing, I havent found a fish there in my last 4 outings. Pressure has a huge impact on catching bass or just fishing for them, but have fun even when you arent getting hits, and try to solve the puzzle!
  22. Unfortunately, no. I've yet to fish a tourney, still trying to build up my skills and equipment before I get into that, and I dont have a boat so my time on the water equates to me standing ankle deep along the shores. Hopefully next summer I can get into a tourney or two at IL & GLSM at least. Good luck to you!
  23. I want to head up there soon, I'm right by Indian Lake, so if your headin out that way soon, let me know! oh, and....I cant answer your question, sorry bud!
  24. Definitely agree on this one! This site is great at filtering an issues, but for the most part you don't see the members harassing one another anyway. This site is made up of a great group of guys/gals, and great moderators to boot. I cant stand to check my state fishing website for more than one fishing report simply because people feel the need to validate themselves by slamming every post someone else puts up, and the site doesn't monitor/moderate any of it.

bought a pack of the shad, love the action but havent gotten a bite on it yet...not a whole lot of time on the water with it though. I need to try the frogs too.
