Blue Saphire
Around the late 50's and early 60's I helped out at a sporting good store. One day the owner, Phil, handed me some blue rubber worms and asked me to try them. He said they were supposed to work. I thought "blue". Are they crazy? A few days later my friends and I were swimming in a local creek. I decided to try the blue worm and let Phil know how I did. I swam across the creek to a hole I knew held bass and sunfish. I climbed out on the limb of a tree that had fallen into the creek. The limb was over the water. I rigged up my worm and was getting my gear together. The worm was dangling below me a few inches over the water. I heard a big splash below me and thought my friends were throwing rocks at me. Then there is another splash but none of my friends are even looking in my direction. I look down to see a bass jump out of the water and try to get my blue worm. I lowered the worm to the surface and caught my first bass on a rubber worm.....a blue rubber worm! So it began. ?

ElaZtech And Jig Skirts
Thanks again.

What to do if haven't cranked motor in months
Higher RPM to get the pump running? Or does it have a thermostat that needed to get up to operating temperature?
-
OK to briefly start motor w/out muffs or water?
Five seconds is not going to cause the motor to overheat but running the water pump without water which lubricates it could cause a problem.

ElaZtech And Jig Skirts
I picked up some Zman RaZor ShadZs with the intention of using them for jig and chatter bait trailers. I would like to leave the trailer on the jigs when I'm not fishing them. Has anyone had any problems with the ElaZtech reacting with skirt rubber?

Conundrum: keep a secret place to myself?
I have done a complete 180 on this subject. I was always willing to share info with guys about fishing spots until about 6 or 8 years ago. I was on another site. A guy on that site fished the same river I fished. He was posting photos and stories about some nice musky he had been catching. Another poster asked for details and he refused to share them. I commented about his refusal to share but he would not share any info with the third poster because he though others would destroy the location. I knew where he was fishing but I was not going to disclose his location. A few weeks later another posted asked about a different stretch of river for SM. I gave him a lot of details including info on baits, specific locations and how to fish the locations. A week after that the SM fisherman posted a thank you for the info and a photo of a picnic table completely covered with dead 2 to 3 pound SM. I was ticked. I did not respond but many others on the site did. They felt the way I did and let him know it. Since that time I do not share any specific info and I now agree with the musky fisherman. Many others do not care and will burn or destroy a good spot.

MLF & Bassmaster Northern Swings
Now that "thing" could make some of those TV shows more enjoyable to watch.

MLF & Bassmaster Northern Swings
Since we're talking about watching and not fishing I agree with the OP and others it is hard for me to "stay engaged" watching a guy drop a tube or ned rig while drifting in featureless open water. Now if I was fishing that featureless open water I would definitely be engaged.

Is A Rubber Landing Net Worth It?
A few years ago I was fishing northern Quebec with my sons. We were fishing for walleye with 3" twister tails. I had a rubber net similar to this one: https://www.amazon.com/Frabill-Sportsman-Seamless-Landing-Telescoping/dp/B001AMJ4K4/ref=asc_df_B001AMJ4K4?tag=bingshoppinga-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=80676718050715&hvnetw=o&hvqmt=e&hvbmt=be&hvdev=c&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=&hvtargid=pla-4584276296467940&psc=1 I hooked a big pike. I was using 6 lb test mono and I finally got it up to the boat. My son nets it and tries to lift it into the boat. The rubber net bottom rips out and the pike falls back into the lake. I shoved the rod through the hole in the net to follow the fish and I finally get it back up to the boat where I hand landed it. I have not purchased another rubber net. They are handy and great for most fish especially ones with teeth but I won't take another chance.

Current Favorite Mid - Priced Hard Jerk Bait (2 ft ~ 5 ft. running depth) ?
The Rogue has been pretty consistent for me and I'd include anything Rapala.

Re-learning how to fish
Just for those that don't know the river around Hbg. is very different than the North Branch.
-
Re-learning how to fish
It is very similar but wider. The Delaware is more easily navigated but a great river for just about everything from SM to Musky. Cast upstream of the rocks / structure and let the current sweep your lure past it. The trick is enough weight to get down but not snagged.

Re-learning how to fish
Yep! Add some Tiny Torpedo's, some Beattle Spins and small jerk baits and you should be in business. IF I had to pick one bait for the river around Harrisburg it would be a grub and a lead head jig. The weight depends on the flow. For colors I'd use yellow, chartreuse, white or dark green. Good luck!! Not in that section of the Susquehanna. We drift downstream slowly and make short casts to the few rocks ? in the river. ? Actually the river above Hbg. is all boulders and great fishing.

The Found Lures Thread
How about loss and found? I fish a big lake in northern Quebec. Pike, walleye and rainbows are the primary species. I fish a Rebel Spoonbill for pike and walleye. I had one Spoonbill that worked better than all the others on both species until I lost it on a troll. I knew where I hung it but was not able to see it or recover it. I did miss that lure. Two years later I'm trolling the same shoreline. The water was much lower than usual. As we're trolling my son looks down and sees my Spoonbill. We recover the plug. It needed hooks, rings and a little soap but other than that it was in great shape. A few months later I'm trolling a lake in PA for Pike. I hang on a snag and pull the snag up. There in addition to my plug there is a second Spoonbill! Life is good!!

Pflueger Spinning Reel Choice
I have 3 or 4 Presidents I use on catfish, pan fish and loaner rods. I was so impressed with the Presidents I purchase a Supreme to try. There was no XT when I purchased mine. It is a very nice reel and one of my favorite reels. I use it all the time. The feel and quality is better than the Presidents to me. BTW I have had the reel 5 or 6 years now. It gets used frequently and I have never had a problem. I never had a problem with the Presidents either.

S-Waver 168 Modifications
I use JJ's a lot. I think it makes a difference in the off colored muddy waters I fish. I like the idea about dipping swimbait tails. I might try that on a 168.

I guess if the fish are hanging around the car its considered structure and if they are hanging in the car its cover. ?

Something I dont understand
This is my favorite lure with a yellow or white tail when I fish the Susquehanna River and I get many negative responses when people ask about it. One day I was fishing the Susquehanna with a friend who counts fish. He counts the fish he catches and he counts the fish you catch. We were fishing a riffle one day and I was not paying attention to how well he was doing. At one point he asked me "do you know how many fish you caught?" I did not. He said I caught 21 and he had caught two. I offered him a Beetle Spin and I had a new convert.

How to add wire tie?
I have done this and then used a file to smooth out the head. It works but is not clean looking and I prefer wire.

I did not realize you had a boat. I put in at Scudders Falls on the Delaware. In the spring the water is higher but drops towards summer. You can use an prop outboard but go slow. The deeper water is from mid stream to the Jersey side. There are a few ramps further north but I haven't used them in many years. Those ramps allow access to different pools. Bulls Island was one I used often. The fishing was always good up there. BTW the upper Delaware changes with every bad storm. Go Slow!! I haven't used it in years but I have put my boat in the Schuylkill near Valley Forge. There was a ramp just north of the 422 expressway. You had to get off the expressway and onto Trooper Road and then Sullivan's Lane. Another option would be a New Jersey license and the Rancocas Creek. I have not fished the Rancocas in many years but "I hear" the bass fishing is good. It is easily accessed from Philly via the Linden Avenue ramp. I will ask around about the Rancocas to be sure it is a good option.

I have fished Nockamixon but not enough to offer advice. I do fish the tidal Delaware. If I'm after bass I fish Dredge Harbor or the Poquessing Creek off the Delaware. The upper Delaware is a good small mouth fishery. The water level is an issue this time of year but it usually stabilizes during the summer with the exception of storms. I would do some research and exploring on the Schuylkill River above Valley Forge. There are a few ramps and the SM fishing is good.

Lake Champaign Question
? Thanks guys! I fish the St Lawrence but I have never fished Champlain and I'm trying to figure what lures to take.
