  1. Browns are so underrated. They are largemouth of the trout world. Big Al's first brown: That's just not right!
  2. Little kids....unlocked bedroom doors....
  3. Wind knots with a monofilament line? I associate wind knots with braid. Sounds like a line twist problem.
  4. I was going to say about the same as Catt. Sometimes you have move off a bit, into deeper water. Other times, increase your drop line so your bait is in the face of less active, bigger, wary fish. Lastly, try a heavier weight. Sometimes you have to "expedite" the bait through the dinks if the larger fish are holding close to the bottom. About the only time I feel like I need a bigger bait, is when I feel like water clarity or cover is obscuring my presentation.
  5. In the kayak fishing classes I taught, I saw many that needed to see the tip of their rod wiggle to detect a bite. They usually had a preference for braid, and didn't fish too many slack or loose line types of baits. It used to blow my mind when a big northern would blast their bait, putting feet of slack in their line, while they were blindly winding away. "Set the hook man!" They'd invariably reel up the slack, hold the rod tip up high, look at the tip, and exclaim, "OHMYGOSHIGOTTAFISH!" LOL. Where you been buddy? That fish has been on for ten seconds. Probably the main point I try to make with anyone is, know what you bait is doing when it ISN'T getting bit. If it isn't doing that, set the hook. It's pretty easy to figure out, since 90% of the time there isn't a fish there.
  6. You might try an ACS style real seat. I didn't like them at first, but my new GL2 has one, and it palms nicely with a few different reels on it. It's got two grooves, like finger stalls in it. Hard to explain, you'd have to mount a reel on one and see if it changes anything for you.
  7. Perhaps you were posting about on the water fashion, and missed the discussion. Many articles start as posts: http://www.bassresou...od-performa-xt/
  8. LOL, nice! I fixed your original post.
  9. Those are sweet red ears, man! I fish what we got, and since the only open water in winter is trout water, that's what I fish.....

  12. Faux News First! LMAO.... Worst headline ever! There's only one gift card per year.....
  13. Unless you're out to set some IGFA line class records.... Keep this simple - 4# Trilene XL will work fine.
  14. Any 7' MH/F rod and reel in your budget, spooled up with 12# CXX will work.
  15. Go ahead, take your ball then. Yes, oil does pool, that's my point! It pools up on drag washers in baitcasters. I haven't had any issue using a fine coating of Star Drag Grease - that's all I'm saying. Gives you a smoother feel as well, and no back chatter. But, the part has to be 100% free of old lube.
  16. Either. If it was as simple as preventing corrosion, then it would be consistent. It isn't, so that isn't the reason.
  17. Might have to check the forecast..... Nice work Dwight!
  18. That doesn't make sense - if that was the case spinning reels would be sent that way too. Even when you send them to have their service centers do it, they use grease there too. As far as the bearings go, it's only really Shimano that greases them, the others are oiled. Last I heard, oil prevents corrosion just as well.
  19. I wonder why most brands ship with greased one way bearings? About the only one way that comes oiled are the large pin Shimano bearings, and they say "no grease" on them. I don't care for oil - it always seems to get into the drag washers. I've been getting excellent results using a *VERY* thin coating of Shimano Star Drag Grease. I think though for 90% of users that just do a touch up cleaning, use nothing and leave it alone is the best advice. Seen quite a few messed up spinning reels from guys that tried to do them themselves.
  20. The leader will break before the knot will, if correctly tied. Knot strength is very close to breaking strength of the braid used.
  21. Love the color of those two, Chris.
  22. Wonder no more! C-ya!
