Kistler Helium 3 7'0 ML
I fish both Avid and Helium 3. The two are NOT an apple to apple comparison.

Diverticulitis
Day seven. I miss my bed. I miss food. I miss solid stools and what not being in pain feels like. I also missed the arrival of my new Kistler Helium 3. It arrived a few days ago...LOL

Thanks. I feel that if I could just fart for about a minute straight, I would feel much better.

Diverticulitis
I write to you on day three in the hospital. Saturday, the pain was all day but, twice it so bad I almost passed out. I was away from home and kept thinking a serious trip to the men's room was in my future and would solve everything. By the time Sunday morning came and I'd not slept and made a dozen trips to the can, I asked my wife to drive me to to ER. It took 8 mg of morphine and the pain was still not completely gone. I was transferred to a local hospital, the pain was incredible until the right dose of narcotic was found. The pain on top of the distended abdomen is a terrible combination. The good part is that i had no vomiting, no blood and no perforation. Just pain meds, antibiotics and resting the bowel. I haven't eaten since 730AM Saturday morning and have had nothing by mouth since Sunday morning. I knew about the disease because my dad, brother, sister and best buddy have it. I didn't realize it is such a serious and life threatening disease.

Just need to vent
It completely befuddles me to see people smoking. Smart people. Young people. Any people. This isn't 40-50 years ago, we ALL know d**n well what smoking does and what is in a cigarette.

Braid vs mono casting distance
That braid is still twisting. It is just more forgiving when twisted than mono. It'll screw you...in time for sure.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone
“The senate and House of Representatives of the United States have by a joint resolution signified their desire that a day may be recommended to be observed by the people of the United States with religious solemnity as a day of thanksgiving and of devout acknowledgments to Almighty God for His great goodness manifested in restoring to them the blessing of peace. No people ought to feel greater obligations to celebrate the goodness of the Great Disposer of Events of the Destiny of Nations than the people of the United States. His kind providence originally conducted them to one of the best portions of the dwelling place allotted for the great family of the human race. He protected and cherished them under all the difficulties and trials to which they were exposed in their early days. Under His fostering care their habits, their sentiments, and their pursuits prepared them for a transition in due time to a state of independence and self-government. In the arduous struggle by which it was attained they were distinguished by multiplied tokens of His benign interposition. During the interval which succeeded He reared them into the strength and endowed them with the resources which have enabled them to assert their national rights, and to enhance their national character in another arduous conflict, which is now so happily terminated by a peace and reconciliation with those who have been our enemies. And to the same Divine Author of Every Good and Perfect Gift we are indebted for all those privileges and advantages, religious as well as civil, which are so richly enjoyed in this favored land. It is for blessings such as these, and more especially for the restoration of the blessing of peace, that I now recommend that the second Thursday in April next be set apart as a day on which the people of every religious denomination may in their solemn assembles unite their hearts and their voices in a freewill offering to their Heavenly Benefactor of their homage of thanksgiving and of their songs of praise. Given at the city of Washington on the 4th day of March, A.D. 1815, and of the Independence of the United States the thirty-ninth. James Madison”

Quantum rods and reels
Like Chop, I fell into a Smoke 100PT a few years ago for $60. Super impressed, I bought used (from this site) an EXO 100PT. I enjoy fishing either in my line up of Shimanos.

All sixties means to me is I am not sweating just walking outside to the car. Shorts and t-shirt still for me...love it.

It Happened
Temps were in the lower 40's over the weekend at night. Window open, fan on...heaven for me. My early morning "warm gear" included wearing a tee shirt under my fishing shirt.

To kill or not to kill—bowfin
My partner and I guide for snakehead in MD and bowfin in VA. I can't begin to explain the ignorance of fisherman (based on flawed information) that we hear on a regular basis. This particular page is case in point to the deceptive language used to encourage killing. To those who do their due diligence to the truth, kudos. To those who follow ignorance, shame on you, in regards to both to snakehead and bowfin. ILLEGAL TO POSSESS! No government can legislate mandatory killing.

Is rod sensitivity overrated?
For example, most think of KVD as the greatest angler and he is using $150 Quantum rods, Aaron Martens is using $150 Enigma Rods, Skeet Reese is using Wright & McGill $100 rods, Jason Christie is using a $100 Falcons, not too mention all the BPS and Duckett sponsored pros. 20 some years ago, I was at a fishing expo in Richmond VA called Bassarama. I was talking to a worker in the booth for a custom rod builder. It was a Friday and I commented on the light crowd and lack of traffic in the booth. He mentioned that the crowd would pick up Saturday when Guido Hibdon was in the booth. I said the Guido was sponsored by (I think it was Daiwa) The guy said, "that might be what he says out loud and what the label on the rod says but..." Another employee came over and put and end to the conversation after acknowledging the truth of the previouse employee's statement. I know rod technology and production has changed in twenty years but, I never believe that some of these guys are fishing with the same off the shelf rods available to the public. Especially the mass produced stuff.

Worth fixing?
I have an older Shimano Symetre 2000. There is a lever that switches from instant anti-reverse to back reeling, that lever and shaft as come completely out and just hangs from the back of the reel.

2018 Lightning rod
My fishing partner and I are using the new Lightning Rods spinning rods on our guide boats. I am not sure how they will hold up over time but, they are like sissystick said, light, crisp and strong. Customers are loving them and for the price, so are we. For $40, if they don't last forever, we'll buy more.
