Hopefully it is fish slime. My boat is alm so it only gets washed once a year. It looks nice but I wouldn't call it pretty.

Late May On Erie
Well Speedbead shamed me into getting out there and doing a little fishing. Actually I was scouting some areas for my next outing. Tried one of my old areas & found nothing. Decided to make a long run as the wind was offshore SSW. Set out a dead stick with a staysee while I worked a high bait that I was holding. Got bit on the worked bait & the first fish was a 4.75 lber. The lake went flat & the bite started. Ended up with 4 over four lbs, 2 over 5lbs & a 6-1lber. Best five went 25lbs-14 oz. The wind switched to the east & shut the bite down about 3pm. Water surface temps went from 51 degrees to 59 degrees while I was out.

Zoom Flukes, What Am I Doing Wrong?
You could try nose hooking them with a 1/0 or 2/0 wacky hook. That will still give you the action you want & a better hook up ratio if the fish are eating your bait.

Swimbaits? Yes, Please.
Avatar fish? Nice fish. That will help keep Speed on his toes as if he needed any more motivation.

Shipping Rods Vs. Checking On Airplane
Save yourself the hassle & ship them ahead of time. Might actually be less expensive. Some airlines are charging $75 for rod tubes classifing them as oversized.

G Loomis Glx + Abu Mgx
I would use that rod for everything on a Canadian trip with a 2nd rod as a back up. I have used 2 oz jerbaits with that rod no problems. Cranks would work with a drag adjustment. It all depends on how many rods you can & want to bring along. Remember the whole idea behind a multipurpose rod is to make it work for all/most applications.

That outfit will cover a lot of ground for many different applications & fish species. Ideally it is a jig rod, small swimbait, spinnerbaits & even topwater. It will work with treble bait applications if you use a looser drag and or mono for adding a little stretch in the system. Like you mentioned it can be used for pike, lake trout & walleye. I used that rod for many years in the imx version for big pike & lakers in northern canada and it will handle 30lb plus fish very adequately. Enjoy your new combo.
