Learned something today.
I can’t agree with you that you’re “wrong” and they’ve been “right”. Why? Because I don’t think you’re “wrong.” I believe you know what works for you. While the experts in those videos you watched might have shared some good information, it does not mean they’re “right”. They are merely sharing what has worked for them based on their personal experience. You have the experience you’ve gained through paying your dues. What I’d do if I watched those videos is take those nuggets and see if they will work for me. Keep what works and put on the back burner what does not, because some day it might work for me. This gold blade when it’s sunny and silver blade when it’s overcast? Really? I bet those blades would work in opposite conditions at times. The moral of the story is be flexible to try whatever color is necessary to catch fish. Don’t put yourself in a box from the start. In addition to that, not all “gold” or all “silver” colored blades are equal based on color visually. A true silver plated blade does not reflect light exactly the same as a nickel plated blade, which incidentally looks like silver. Brass when shiny can look like gold. What are we going to do then, lol? (My source: spinner fishing for salmon, trout and steelhead by Jed Davis.) From my personal experience blade color can make a difference depending on the light conditions and water clarity, but so do the vibration the blades give and even the wire diameter has some influence. I love fishing with in-line spinners for many species including bass and I rejoiced when I finally “cracked the code” using spinnerbaits after a very long period of paying my dues.

Fishing rod
I have the spinning Airdx medium in a 2 piece and for its price it’s an EXCELLENT deal. To your other question, if you mean is there a difference between 1 and 2 piece rods these days, I’d say yes, absolutely. 1 piece are 1 piece and 2 piece rods come in 2 pieces, lol. Kidding aside, I suppose you mean a difference in sensitivity and in that case, for modern rods, I believe if there is a difference, it is negligible. I use 2 piece rods for convenience sake and I have my 1 piece bass rods. If you need a 2 piece for practicality and convenience, the go for it. If going 1 piece is convenient go for that. The rods you use the most will be the ones that will catch the most fish. Peace out.

Rate the song above you
I taught myself how to play the bass line on this awesome song not too long ago. I’m playing bass for fun and it helps that I have an ear and know notes by their tone and imagine the fret board as a keyboard. And this cool song is a far cry from the first song I taught myself on the bass, Stand By Me, lol.

What has your dog swallowed?
We have a puppy standard poodle and he will put ANYTHING in his mouth. Rotten fruits and veggies, dead animals, and dang even his own vomit. He even chewed up one of my ear buds. I didn’t know my bud fell out of my pocket via an unknown hole and he was laying down next to me. My phone was connected to a Bluetooth speaker and the speaker alternated between working and cutting out. I looked at my phone’s Bluetooth settings and learned my phone was connected to my bud and I thought that was impossible because that bud was in my pocket. So I dig through my pocket and found a hole. I knew immediately at that point (yes, I have Sherlock skills?) the bud fell through that hole and onto the floor and my dog must have gotten it. I got his attention and he looked at me with guilty eyes and then tried to run away. I grabbed him before he could run away and I practically had to pry his mouth open with my hands. Yup, it was in his mouth and he chewed the living daylights out of it. I wasn’t mad as it was my fault, but I shudder at the thought if he had managed to swallow it. He was about 4 months at the time. I feel we both dodged a bullet. I bought a two pack of syrup from Costco and put it in the garage. I left him alone for 5 minutes. And he managed to tear up both containers, spilling the syrup all over the garage carpet. He looked at me like Steve irkle, with eyes that said, “Did I do that?” His snout was soaked in syrup. ? I didn’t bother cleaning the carpet. I threw it out, lol.

“Forgotten” Assistance/Input/Advice Already Given…
Papajoe, I’ve been here for a long time now and never noticed the star, let alone it’s significance. Thanks. The challenge now might be to look for the star in a thread before posting or forgetting what it means, ? lol

Helping kids fish?
That is excellent and kudos to you for doing that. I am pleased to tell you I do the same. I was in a similar situation and helped a dad get his kids onto some panfish. Long story short, his gratitude was felt in his hand shake and seen in his eyes as we both watched his kids catch fish. I will admit that for me, seeing kids or other get into fish because I helped them is an even better feeling than if I caught them. Heck, when my kids were young and went fishing with me, I always wanted them to catch more than me.

“Forgotten” Assistance/Input/Advice Already Given…
This has happened about three times to me in the past few months. This usually happens with older threads. Here’s the scenario: You come across a topic and you make a post, sharing your thoughts and input. Enough time passes by and so this “old thread” looks new (and yes I do look at the date stamp sometimes lol) thread and so you start the process of adding a post. Then for me, I come to realize that gosh almighty, I already posted in this thread — and interestingly enough, my “new” thread is nearly identical previous one. ? Has this happened to anyone else, or is this a sign that the gloom of winter that some of us suffer is upon us. Sheesh!!! ??

Any women or girls on this site?
I know they’re out there. When I used to take seniors fishing, most of them were female. As an example in a groups of 8-10 seniors, only 1-3 would have been guys. They also had different goals. They were far more interest in bluegill and perch than bass and they were fishing to catch and eat. And I most definitely obliged them and did my best to get them on their quarry. I enjoyed listening to their stories of how they fished with their dads when they were little and many of them at the time I took them were already in their 70s and up roughly my dads age at that time. One of them who I am still in contact with still would love to fish but no longer can without great difficulty. So if I happen to catch a bluegill or a 1-2 lb bass and I had the opportunity to get it to her quickly, I will bring it to her. She won’t eat perch however, and she calls them ringtails. Before that, I had never heard perch being called that before.

Her emotions say it all.
Very nice. They looked liked tears of joy. ??

Confidence lures
I can relate but I was stuck on the drop shot. Same as you, I stopped it dead cold and got off that crutch and as a result, I learned in spinnerbait 2018 spinner bait 2019 4-5” senko (non drop shot) 2020 T-rig plastics (brush hogs, creatures, craws) My whole bass world got shaken up and my bass skills increased. still trying to get the jig and trailer bass but haven’t had the opppurtunities. To the topic, I use jigs. I need to crack that accursed code, lol.

Recommend a drop shot rod
Okay. I was merely referring to when vertically fishing as in dropping it straight down from the boat, a spinning set up does it more easily or conveniently. That is all. ?
-
Recommend a drop shot rod
If this will be a dedicated vertical rod for up to 20’ or so, you might want to consider a spinning reel. You might quickly get tired of pulling line off every cast to get your weight to the bottom faster. A spinning reel by nature doesn’t have that issue. Or there is the bait monkey answer. One casting and one spinning DS rig each ?

Pistol Grip Rod Handles?
I’m not so sure that’s a fishing rod. It looks more like a light saber hilt, lol. ?? That said, it looks bad a$$. ??

Brag about your state's bass fishing.
Well, my state (Seattle area only) ain’t nothing to write home about. The only real positive is most here target trout and salmonids and as a result, bass anglers are a minority such that it’s a good thing. The eastern side of the state and southern as in the Columbia river are perhaps another story but they are out of my reach and worse yet, would require another round of “paying your dues” before it becomes fruitful — and I am not willing at this time to pursue such an endeavor.

eating Oatmeal.
Quaker Oats baby. I like oatmeal but sometimes I forget it’s in the cupboard and I wind up eating it is spells. There are some many ways to “fix” it up. Fruit maple syrup brown sugar and possibly some kind of milk or almond milk oatmeal raisin cookies and I did try it with peanut butter. I kind of likened the oatmeal replacing the bread so I added fruit to be the jelly. It was pretty good.

Lure retriever
Chances are the weight is what is stuck so those sliding lure knockers might not make it to the snagged weight. I made my own lure knocker and I can tell you from experience that unless you significantly have the higher ground, you will have a very difficult time trying to get the knocker to work. I too am a shore angler who drop shots. Far better to break off and retie. 6# - 8# test is breakable. I also stopped using dedicated “drop shot weights” for years now. I use pencil lead. Far cheaper economical and I can customize my own weight.

7' vs 7'3 vs 7'6
No doubt. I took my dad smallie fishing one time and his rod gets slammed down really hard. I thought he had in Iaconelli speak a “giant” on since his rod was really bent over. Turns out the bugger was barely 1 pound. I know it was at least a 5 pounder at point “fish on”, and shrank the closer it got to my dad, ? lol
-
7' vs 7'3 vs 7'6
Actually, the rod’s length is independent of my fishing theorem that still holds true to this day. “Once hooked, the size of the fish is inversely proportional to the distance it is from the angler.” i.e., the fish diminishes in size the closer it gets to you, lol ? For me, smallies or notorious for this. ?

Pithy Expressions
“Better to have and not need, than to need and not have.” Gist: Be preprared. I don’t know who made it up originally but I arrived at this on my own when I was a kid. However, I know I can’t possibly be the one to have coined it. It’s too obvious a thing. Now I did coin a phrase just this year. I laid pavers and extended my patio because my wife wanted this done. Over 6000 pounds of sand and gravel, yada yada and got it done. I used to call it extending my fishing liberties, but that was a grueling project and now call it earning “spousal credit.” My buddy busted out laughing so hard and after he saw the patio, he told me, “Dang. I’d say you earned enough spousal credit to last well into next year,” lol.

Saturday, we helped a young kid respool his reel. he was in kahoots with the bait monkey.
Ha! In all my years, I’ve never seen the bait monkey employ such a tactic. He’s evolving, lol! ? Kudos to both of you for helping the kid out.

you keep cash in your wallet?
Anywhere from $20-50. It’s sole purpose is for incidents in which cards aren’t an option. About a year ago, I went to a Panda Express and after I placed my order I broke out my debit card and then they said their system was down and they couldn’t process cards. Wow. I am glad I had that cash on hand because I was ding dang hungry, jack lol. A couple places to eat here are cash only.

Broncos
I haven’t really kept up with football but before the start of the season all the preseason talk (locally Seattle) was Denver with My buddy Russell was going to be a juggernaut. I just looked at the standings and that’s a bit shocking imho for the broncos. With that said, the season is still early … For all teams. And with that said, my Seahawks don’t look that good ?lol ? Miss the good ‘ol days

Casting Form
Bottom line? Lure weight loads the rod, regardless of what plane the rod is. Sidearm cast is no different from an overhand cast. Even in a sidearm roll cast the lure’s weight still loads the rod. Period. ‘Nuff said, lol. The hand on the butt end for me can act as a guide/base/foundation and it spots as much weight as possible so that the wrist and forearm muscle on my hand closest to the reel feels no stress or fatigue, thereby practically eliminating the possibility developing tennis elbow for me. The time I had tennis elbow, it took over a year to recover and I don’t ever want to go through that again so my second has plays a major in helping me avoid it.
