I have been on here for a few years now, and I don’t recall any commenters being female. I know lots of young girls and women love to fish, and think it would be a wonderful addition to this site if more women were involved. Any ladies out there, It would be great to have your input.

thx

ol'crikety recently joined and has been fairly active.

LadiMopar has been a member for several years - but hasn't been active since May.

I'm sure there's others.

I asked this question years ago too and at the time, there were none.  When you look at the professional bass tours, there aren't any females on them either.  Seems a little odd but its generally a male-dominated thing.

@ol'crickety may be one of a kind here...

Not sure if its odd per se, there is absolutely no separation or advantage to either sex in fishing (the strongest fastest biggest prettiest highest jumping smallest farthest.... it doesn't make a difference here), the only difference is a natural occurrence due to no outside forces other than a trend in interest. @waymont honestly I have no idea who on here is a female or male unless there avatar is a personal pic, but really I don't care what genitals you have if you have something to teach me about fishing I want to learn from you.

If we could only look up to or learn from the same sex as us then I would be much dumber and less successful in life - because about 85% of my teachers from kindergarten through 6 years of college were women. I respect and appreciate their input, and if they had a thingy it wouldn't have made a difference to me.

I have been able to discern through the chats on the forum there actually are a number of active women here, but again - I don't think it makes a difference who tells me to set up a rig this way or that way or use this gear or that so long as I feel I can trust their experience and input.

Thanks, I came up with it all by myself! I'm sure you're familiar with having to tell a fish what to do. I've heard my wife have to get firm and make a bass her fish! Sometimes its finesse and gentle light line and soft talk, other times you gotta pull out the big rod and get rough, 65 pound braid and a punch rig - You Can't Hide From Me Fish!

@PUTitinYOURmouthFISH I don't know if your post was directed at me specifically, but my point was that there doesn't seem to be many on this forum or on the pro tours.

I'm absolutely not against them participating.  I just want to clarify that.  My own Mother is a avid tournament walleye angler and fishes out of a Warrior 2090 deep V fiberglass boat all season.  We're all on the same physical level when it comes to specific styles of fishing.  Its not like you have to be an Olympic athlete to fish.

One specific type of fishing that offers a bit of a physical challenge that I encounter is muskie fishing.  It generally caters to a specific demographic which is young to middle aged men because of the tackle that is required to fish for them.  There is a bit of physical demand that is needed to handle a 9 foot heavy action rod coupled with a big round bait caster reel to sling around 15 inch lures.  For this reason I rarely see females, young kids, or old timers doing it.

My wife does a fair amount of coaching, also.  She will also kiss a lot of them as she tells them to go get their mother.

I know some women who are better than a lot of “fishermen” I know.

She's one of kind for sure, she fishes like a possessed teenager, and catches lots of fish.

I do believe she's quite rare not just in being a huge Bass fisherman, but again like I said she seems to have that obsession over Bass that I've only seen in about 10% of male fisherman, let alone female ones.

That's awesome bro! Hopefully the good little fish listen and go get mommy sometimes haha.

@gimruis I wasn't directing my comment at anyone, just rolling off of your comment that it was odd. I just think there are some natural unforced common divides we see occur as children develop and turn into adults. Males and females tend to have many things in common, and some lines where men and women will have stronger inclinations towards things than the other group. I think in general angling is a sport that is more attractive to men than women, nothing wrong with that and nothing against anybody because of their sex on either side.

But I also think it doesn't typically matter in fishing anyway, aside from the example you gave and perhaps some deep sea fishing. and even then, I was just out on a charter boat owned and operated by a woman. I just don't think we ought to be making a note of who has what genitals because it doesn't make a difference here is all. As many have said, they know plenty of female anglers, and I'm sure respect them as anglers and its not like "yeah, she's good for a girl."

There’s lots of female anglers that catch lots of nice fish, even Muskie and huge salt water fish. They just post a lot more frequently on other forms of media like instagram

BR had or still has a few women that post threads occasionally.

ABA has a couples series of bass tournaments. SoCal has Guys and Gals club events.

The late Aaron Martens mom Carol was a pro bass angler. Don’t recall the names of the few touring pro bass women, we several over the years locally.

Nationally the LLBA tour with Pam Martin-Wells May have BR members?

Need me a fisherwife, jokes aside; I see quite a lot of fisherwoman on other platforms lik IG and they seem to catch fish. But I also reckon a lot of these bikinin clad gals holding fish might also be viewer bait for us men.

Back when I was tournament fishing I met a few excellent lady bass fishermen.  One of the toughest was Captain Lynda Hawkins. She was a full time guide in Central Florida for well over 20 years and I had the pleasure of fishing with her many times.  She was also a Lady B.A.S.S. Champion.  She was as professional as they come and very tough to beat.  I fished a few tournaments with her and she taught me a lot.

My wife always wondered why there are no women in big money TV tournaments?  Fishing with Lynda, I can answer some of the most obvious questions.  If either one of us had to pee, we respected each other and looked the other way.  It was never a problem.   Some wives had a problem with their husband being in a boat all day with another woman.  Lynda and I were there to catch fish and that's all.  That problem is in the minds of others, not ours.   The biggest issue is that many women have kids and family that they are caring for.  Serious tournament fishing is a tough life on the road.   Few women want that kind of life.   There is no physical or mental reason a woman could not be a great bass fisherman.

Alex, I haven't been hooked largemouth for life. I've fished and fish for what's available with all due joy. For years, it was panfish and farm pond bass. Then fearless, slashing pike. Then bonkers white bass on the Mississippi. Then skulking muskies in Ontario. Then aerobatic smallmouth in the same area. Now it's big-shouldered largemouth in Maine because whereas smallmouth lakes are the norm in northern Maine, on the mid-coast, largemouth thrive. Yeah, I've loved them all. The thought of a dancing bobber excites me nearly as much as a green musky latching onto my figure eight lure canoe-side.

As someone noted above, muskies are likely beyond me now not because of my gender, but my age. Heaving those big lures broke down my back when I was young, but when you're young and hurting, you simply have to sleep to recover. Nowanights, if I fall asleep sore, I wake up even more sore.

I too wish more women fished. I made a local call yesterday to a sporting good store looking for a SPRO frog and the woman who answered the phone clearly fished and we talked froggin' and that was great, but you guys are great too when we talk fishing.

I have fished with a couple fairly famous female fishers and that was fun, but I wouldn't want to be one of them. When you have a modicum of fame as a female fisher, you are constantly being watched...and judged. You even have to apply lipstick before you pose with a fish!

I'm happiest in my stained clothing and weed-splattered canoe, snaking through the reeds, watched only by the eagles. And I'm happy at bassresource.com because of you guys, who are so generous with your time and wisdom.

Now I'm going to spool some 50 lb. braid onto my Shimano Curado and tie it directly to my frog, which is what you guys taught me yesterday. No more time-consuming leader and HOORAY for that! And I found a stiffer, longer baitcasting rod in the basement this morning in case my just-ordered one doesn't arrive before I leave to fish mid-afternoon.

One more thing: Thanks to all you guys who want more women to fish.

I had a female customer once that had a 10 pounder mounted that she caught in okeechobee. She used to keep her boat at Rolands I think. Said she knew him well. Based on all her knowledge of baits and techniques, I never doubted her.

I used to take girls fishing  before marriage and it was quite a bit more fun that my regular posse. One of them would have been really good had she done it more. My wife was fair at bass fishing but she won’t go now after losing what would have been a new pb.

One of my g. daughters is really good at fishing but, at 17, doesn’t know I exist anymore…?

I know it’s a male dominated pursuit, but most of us would welcome more females on the water…

You're just a true fisherman Katie, doesn't matter the species, it's the process and experience that matters.

I think we'll see more women in the sport thanks to folks like yourself.  Women have to believe they can hang with the men, and clearly you are providing an excellent example of that.   You'd outfish me, and many other lifelong Bass fisherman on this site.    Women need role models, and mentors in this sport just like men, and I imagine it's quite a bit tougher finding a female mentor than it is a male one.

Good luck today, hope the rod comes in, and I hope you post some hawgs in the latest catch tread :)

When it comes to fishing wives, I feel like I have caught the world record. My wife and I met in a South Florida high school when she was 15 years old.  That was 60 years ago. Like me, she was the oldest child. Her family had a boat when she was younger and her Dad often took her fishing.  From the beginning, we went fishing together.  We fished on the bank before school and after.   Salt water and fresh water.  Piers, jetties, canals, rock pits. lakes and basically anywhere we could wet a line.  When our son was born, we took him with us when we walked and fished Tamiami Canal.  We covered a wooded play pen with a blanket and he loved the outdoors.  We fished He and She bass tournaments together and were consistent winners.

My wife is the kind of girl that will try anything.   If you tell her she can't do something, she will do it better than you will.  She can cast and fish better than most men and never complains about the weather or the fish.  She started fishing with me in a 8' boat I built in my garage and has piloted every type of fishing boat up to a 55 foot sport fish.  We have fished together our whole lifetime.  She is a light skinned Irish Girl and has had numerous problems with skin cancer.   This has slowed down her fishing in recent years, but she still finds time to go when the weather is nice.  Girl's who like fishing are out there.  ☺️
