Phil, if your wife "never complains about the weather," then she's the perfect fishing partner. I'm going fishing this afternoon and again tomorrow morning. I usually don't fish back-to-back, but tomorrow morning, it will be raining. I love to fish in the rain, but I understand that my wet Heaven is other people's wet Heck and I love that they feel that way, since I'll be on the water alone.

Alex, I think I catch fish for one obvious reason, which is that I fish water that isn't pressured, and two less obvious reasons: The first is that I'm a sneaky snake. I paddle my canoe so quietly that the fish don't hear me coming. The second is that I can cast a long ways and cast accurately into pockets, which are other ways to surprise fish and trigger those reaction strikes.

But mostly it's that I fish water that doesn't get fished much. When I chose lakes in northwestern Ontario, I would never fish one with a cabin, not even a single cabin. In Maine, I pick water that looks too shallow to hold fish and too weedy to catch them. And I pick lakes that required a little suffering to reach. So many people want comfort first, but I'm like Phil's wife: I shrug at a little cold, a rocky or muddy path, and a lot of rain.

However, I leave in an hour and we'll see if I get humbled today or not!? The pond I'm fishing requires driving down dirt road. Then the road ends and I have to portage down a path and then bushwhack through the woods. However, I fished it once already and I know it holds big bass, so the grunting will be worth it. I HOPE!

I read through the posts to my question, and not one female responded, just a lot of dudes talking about females who fish. Haha ?

Here’s to hoping some (more) ladies find their way here.

She realizes you can't control the weather, but that doesn't mean you have to let it control you.  I have had pity on her numerous times and changed the plan.  I remember one nasty January day at Okeechobee.  We were fishing a club He and She tournament.  The temperature was in the 40s that day as we rode out the Clewiston Channel.  I turned and saw her bundled up like an Eskimo.  I didn't want to expose her to that, so I turned the boat around and headed up the rim canal.  When I got to Uncle Joe's, we stopped to fish.  While I was messing with my tackle, she told me to get busy.  I turned and she already had two bass flopping on the bottom of the boat.  We stayed there all day and won that tournament with 25 pounds. Good thing too, as we saved the club fish fry!   ☺️

I remember at least a couple other female members who have posted here in the past few years. I can't remember any names though. There was one that used to post a lot a couple years ago.

Gender is a field in the member profile, so someone with the site could probably find out the answer.

I used to work with a woman who tournament fished. Her mom in her 80's still fished too.

I mentioned @LadiMopar way at the top of the thread, but haven't seen her in here since May.

My wife fishes with me occasionally.  She won't use a bait caster but can cast spinning equipment better than I can.  She's caught a 4 pound bass, and a 27 pound catfish this year.   She's not an internet forum type person.

I suspect there's some women here who hide their gender.   Some (very few) men are pigs, and would possibly be sending inappropriate messages and such.

As far as I'm concerned "fisherman" is gender neutral, just like "human".

Yes.  We're all on equal footing here when it comes to bass fishing.

My mother is a pretty good walleye angler.  She doesn't really cast for them though and I haven't seen her cast for years so I don't think she could do it with ease anymore.  She turned 64 in May.  She primarily Lindy rigs, slip bobbers, trolls with lead core, or pulls spinners when she targets walleyes.

She's one of kind for sure, she fishes like a possessed teenager, and catches lots of fish.

I do believe she's quite rare not just in being a huge Bass fisherman, but again like I said she seems to have that obsession over Bass that I've only seen in about 10% of male fisherman, let alone female ones.

She also ventures out in the darkness to hunt bass. I know more than a few men that won't go out on the water alone in the dark.

I guess you don't realize it but @ol'crickety is a female angler.

I have been on here for a few years now, and I don’t recall any commenters being female

well, Fishing is a male dominated sport, Generally because men are more interested in things/objects(lures, rods, reels, hooks, line, fish, guns, hunting, tools etc etc ) and women are generally more interested in people. (friends, family, children, etc etc) this is the general reason the STEM field is 90%+ men, and  nursing, daycare/teaching, phone receptionists, etc  is 90%+ Female.

There have been a few here that have come and gone.

Not sure why it matters one way or another. I work in a male dominated trade. Don't know what the real numbers are but if 1% of the tradespeople are women, I'd say that's a lot.

My personal opinion, is if dad was a fisherman and dad took daughter under his wing, we'd have more women fishing. No different than men.

Had my father not introduced fishing to me when I was young, I probably wouldn't be fishing. Nor would my son. Dad used to drag my sister along with us. She never fished, she just played with the minnows. I inherited all of my dad's sisters fishing gear when she passed  a few years ago. She fished her entire life. When I was a kid, if dad wasn't taking us to the lake, my aunt was.

I am grateful that all the women in the family don't have issue with the men fishing or hunting. If I'm going fishing, I'm going fishing. Mom had no problem with it. The ol' lady has no problem with it. My daughter is thrilled I'm taking the grandson away so she can get a break.  While I don't hunt, my daughters biological father is a hunter and I help him butcher his deer and I get 1/2 the meat. If he gets a deer or two or three this year, we are going to let Eric watch/help out.

I'm also grateful for this too!  My wife is very tolerant of my outdoor hobbies with the changing seasons.  She knows I deer and pheasant hunt in the fall, turkey hunt in the spring, and fish from May - October about once or twice a week.  But I will also add that she knew I was going to be doing this when she decided to get hitched to me too, otherwise I would not be here.

My wife of 37 years is actually a great fisherman " women " and prepares the fish we decide to keep.

Love her equally as well on the boat or in the kitchen ?

My 15yo daughter likes fishing.  She is patient, listens to suggestions and doesn't get flustered when she loses a fish - she just laughs.

My 13yo. son likes fishing.  He has no patience, is stubborn and will rage quite if he loses a good fish.

Advantage:  Female.  lol

(I know - partly their ages and not a blanket statement of the sexes - it's still funny though).

Oh no, it's a thing with most sports, I'd rather coach women any day, they listen.

Like Phil, my wife.

She isn’t on here though.

We’ve been together for 30, married for 27+.
I remember when we were dating and we’re down in the Keyes and I said I would hook the live shrimp for her, she said “I can hook my own bait” lol

I knew at that moment I won the lottery.

Shes been my fishing partner ever since.
From offshore saltwater, flats fishing to bass fishing, she’s done it all and is very successful at it. She can throw a bait caster better than a lot of my buddies.

Reminds me of our conversations we used to have when I’m fishing, playing poker or at a craps table.

This is a little off the subject of bass fishing, but some may find it interesting.  When we lived in South Florida, I had the pleasure of fishing with Marsha Bierman.  Marsha was a beautiful woman and a great angler.  She is also in the Fishing Hall of fame.  She pioneered the technique of stand up bill fishing.  She recorded many firsts and holds a number of women's world records including a 1,270 pound blue marlin.  If you Google her, you can read more about her accomplishments.  I once took her fishing in the ten thousand islands.  She hooked a 25 pound snook while we were staked out on a flat.  On the first jump, she jerked that poor fish back into the water so hard, it didn't know what happened and just came to the boat.  Huge tarpon where no match for her.  She always told me she didn't understand bass fishing because her bait was bigger than the fish we were trying to catch.  I lost touch when we moved to Central Florida.  I hope she is doing well.  ☺️

Phil, being from south Florida and doing a lot of saltwater when I lived there, I remember Marsha. She could flat out catch fish, and looked good doing it.
I used to fish Bob and Ruth Stoky down in the keys. Ruth held a number of light tackle world records herself.

I remember many great women anglers fishing in South Florida.   Marsha and Lenny Bierman were a team. Lenny rigged the baits and Marsha reeled the fish.  They liked to bait and switch by trolling hookless baits and dropping a bait back to the fish.  That way they could choose the tackle they wanted to use.   Funny story.  Lenny didn't like to put live shrimp on the hook, he always asked the girls to reach in the bucket.  People don't realize how much work Marsha did to stay fit.  She had exercise equipment in her home and used it every day.  My wife and I spent a month fishing with them in Australia and New Guinea. I could write a book about that trip alone. Women are tough....

They may be afraid to join.  A lot of forums are toxic to women.  This one seems to be pretty safe, but I think there's still a general anxiety about it.

My wife doesn't fish, but she's active in several online things like forums and such.  She has to hide that she's a woman for the most part, as she'll get online stalkers and harassment, and have to delete her account and start a new one from time to time for her own personal safety and peace of mind.  It's quite a hassle.

My daughter liked to fish, but hasn't in several years.  I'd say it is life taking priority.  But even if she was still fishing, I highly doubt she would post on any fishing forum.

BTW, she started on spinning gear.  I had DVT build her a casting rod.  She only fished Senkos.  Wanted a short rod.  Loves pink.  So she got a pink 6' MHF casting rod.  After that she wouldn't touch her spinning rods even though most of the rods and reels were pink.  :D
