  1. ok its the same series i've sent then. i want to start a club really bad but idk i'f i'll be able to get any sponsers for it before i have to graduate, and i don't want to be paying out of pocket
  2. tell me about it. its almost as if you have to have atleast some kind of sponsership to even fish really competitive tournament series anymore. What is this college smashmouth series you're talking about? is that the college series you see on tv as in the bassmasters college league or is it different?
  3. lol i would go but i just map quested it and its 4 hrs away.
  4. snaps work great, some crankbaits come with snaps on them already like luhr jenson speed traps. never ever use snap swivels! they may decrease line twist but they will alter the action of your baits and they are just another thing that can break when you hook a big fish
  5. To be sponsored is to be given money or product from a company from wearing they're name or endorsing their product or service. There are plenty of different levels of sponsership ranging from partial sponsorships with just a little bit of product as the reward, to full sponsorship where they pay your way to tournaments and you pretty much do whatever they tell you too. And there's everything inbetween. I don't know of any sponsored people that don't fish tournaments
  6. lol i'm so jealous of the warmth, and the good lakes!!! lol
  7. Right when you find out exactly where the best bite on the lake is they either stop biting or move to a different spot
  8. for river fishig all you need are 3 1/2 inch tube in green pumpkin on a jig head and lucky craft jerkbaits. if you have those two things and your fishing for smallmouth you will do well
  9. Makes me wish i did go to penn state :'(. It's alot of work trying to start a club here
  10. i dont use either, they're too easy to use. In a tournament i can't sit there and wait for a bait to fall, plus its not that productive up north. In the south there are more fish per acre making a senko type bait more productive. up here if i had to pick any soft plastic it would be a tube. In little ponds and stuff where senkos work good i found out a trick worm on a small octopus style hook works alot better, and they last longer
  11. i try not to fish unless its where my next tournament is, when i win the tournament i get my gas back ;D 8-). lol I'm j.k but i do try to get some gas money back in tournys when i can
  12. the best way to work a popper is really slow. twitch it and let it sit there til the ripples go away. then all you need to do is do that again lol
  13. I've had this happen as well, i hate it and it actually screwed me in a couple tourny's. anytime there is money on the line a guy will do this. From now on i dont fish any tournaments without my own boats. Its never shaken me, i mean i got stuck with a guy like that last year and i still caught a nice sack and the next day i had an amazing boater that more than made up for it. I didn't beat that boater but i did earn a boater's spot to the state classic ;D. it's very rare you do encounter these people, from these experiences i try to always let my non boater in on whats going on and i ask him if theres anywhere he wants to go
  14. When bass fishing the first thing you look is the time of year your fishing, then at the water temperature, then at the water clarity, and finally at what the fish are eating. If you do your homework and check all that stuff out i'm sure it will make you a better bass fisherman. But I'm a person who will throw the same bait all day even if it isnt catching me much. I live in pa and its tough fishing in the bigger lakes around here, the best thing to do is find a couple of baits you like and stick to them. Some of my suggestions for you: a wacky worm, a green pumpkin tube, a white spinnerbait, a 1/2 ounce red rattle trap, a jig (black and blue 3/8 ounce), and a popper. Those are some of my top lures, they always catch me fish and they always will. Maybe its the brand of lures your using or where your fishing? I'm a big believer in brands myself
  15. i chew on the boat during tournaments sometimes, i try not too but it still happens. I'm AOY in my club for the past season and i earned a spot in the midatlantic divisonal at Kerr in VA this year. I dont think tobacco has anything to do with it at all.
  16. lol wacky worms work great too just like baitball said. use a small octopus style hook and a green pumpkin or watermelon colored worm
  17. the best thing you can do is go for that reaction strike. Try a cotton cordell super spot, a lucky craft jerkbait in natural colors (preferably shiny), and if they're breaking surface try a small sammie or small chug bug. Smallmouth can be very picky in a school thats why you need to catch them off guard with something moving fast right past their faces
  18. try using a 4 inch zoom finesse worm on a 1/4 ounce shakey head and also try the float and fly technique for your winter smallies. I've heard alot of good things about the float and fly technique on kentucky lake. you'll need an 8 ft rod a bobber and a 1/32-1/8 ounce hair jig on a 8 ft leader. It's difficult to cast but supposedly worth it. try going to punisherjigs.com for the float and fly jigs
  19. To me there are rods, and there are ugly sticks. You're gonna want the former in a medium heavy if you want it to be an all around rod. You can dropshot with it just as well as you can toss soft plastics. but out of the two you mentioned the HMG is a good rod, i've heard alot of great things about them
  20. w.o the eyes its really hard to tell, looks like a tricked out bomber fat A or bagley kill'r b
  21. yeah we kinda have that too in our club, but usually its just a cash prize for that very reason
  22. I am ;D lol. sorry i just had to throw that out there
  23. thats not a very fair points system... i've fished a fair number of tournaments and i believe that you are unfairly giving people points. what if it was a hard day and the boater brought in more than his share of fish and won by himslef and the non boater didnt catch any? Then the non boater would get points for what the angler caught, that could screw people in the angler of the year race if he beats them by those points he was given. I'm sorry but i've been screwed out of awards because of points systems like that and i dont want somebody in your club to realize this too late
  24. you always have to use thumb pressure, but just remember to lower your settings to let the line out easier. your not putting as much power behind a pitch as you are a cast, so your lure doesnt come back lower your magnetic anti reverse. but basically lure at reel, low anti reverse and thumb your spool. you should be good with those three tips
  25. chompers tubes are amazing, i use the black neon, the green pumpkin and the smoke purple
