  1. I've been using the Bagley's Spin Tail Bang-O-Lure for years with much success. Tennessee Shad is my best producer. They now have a Twin Spin Bang-O-Lure I anxious to try. Not too bad on the price even.
  2. Another vote for the Fritts reel. I got one at Christmas and after a few outings I enjoy throwing cranks with it. My $2 worth.
  3. If thats the case I guess people who ice fish have to use bamboo or fiberglass rods...
  4. I got a DF10SC for Christmas. Send me a PM with your e-mail address and I'll email you a copy of the scan. Do you want a copy of the Lube Guide, also?
  5. I had a sheep hunting buddy in Alaska ask me "when was the last time you regretted buying the best". He spent as much time on the mountains hunting Dall sheep as anyone I knew. When I asked him how much he spent on the "BEST", his reply was '"high doller spending does not mean you get the best product" His thinking was that "the best" was what ever you were willing to pay to get equipment that you felt comfortable with and had faith in. Equipment that would not fail you when the going got tough or when you were having the time of your life. He trusted his life on those mountains with his "BEST" equipment. I try to stick to his way of thinking. A rod and reel that feels as comfortable at the end of the day as it does at the beginning is my "BEST". My 2$ worth.
  6. Thank God for fathers!!! ;D
  7. Just wanted to welcome you to the forum. There is a lot of great info here if you have time to read it all. Oh, by the way...ROLL TIDE!!!
  8. Went out a couple of weeks ago and picked up a Diawa Exceler 2000 spinning reel for the wife to use to catch a few redfish on the Delta. I spooled in with 8# Stren mono and mounted it on a 6' Quantum Tournament Grade rod. So far the reel has landed two fish. A 14" red and a 25lb Jack Crevalle! Took 40 minutes to reel it in. The reel held up perfectly!
  9. I like using a Bomber Model A crank that dives 6'-8'. The long bill keep the lure in a nose down attitude and hides the hooks behind the body. I'm not afraid to throw past logs or tree tops and crank it back, watching it work its magic bumping and banging it way through the "zone". Of course I fish from a boat and I keep my lure retriever pole handy . It's saved me a few dollars over the years.
  10. I also use a pole from BPS (6'-18' length). It has saved me alot of money by not having to replace lost lures.
  11. I've tried this before and here is why I cast with my RIGHT hand, swap the rod to my LEFT hand and turn the reel crank with my RIGHT hand. When I make a cast, after the lure lands, I palm the reel with my LEFT hand and I like to hold the line between my LEFT hand thumb and index finger. I like to feel what's happening on the end of the line. If I cast with my RIGHT hand and reel with my LEFT hand then I would not be able to comfortably grasp the line between my fingers without holding the rod with my LEFT hand and moving my RIGHT hand forward to grasp the line between my RIGHT thumb and index finger. Does this make sense??
  12. I read an article the other day comparing the electric fillet knife to a manual fillet knife and the manual knife did not leave as much meat after filleting as the electric one did. I'm looking for the article now.
  13. I would think something that moves a lot of water and has rattles
  14. If my cholesterol would allow me, I would eat fried fish and cheese grits everyday of the week ;D

Spro bronze eye! Been fishing them this year and I have been doing pretty good so far.
  16. I spool my spinning reels a couple of time a year. No special way... just wind the line on the reel. THEN...I attach the reel to the rod and run the line through the guides. I tie on a large barrel swivel to the end of the line and attach this to the antenna of my pickup. I walk all the way out into my yard with the line feeding off the reel. When I come to the end of the line, I just start walking towards my truck reeling in the line. The swivel spins out all the line twists as I reel in. Then I spray some KVD line conditioner on the line and again every night before I go fishing. Seems to work for me!
  17. You know, sometimes it good not to follow the rules. Example: I fish a 25 acre public pond near my home. This pond has heavy fishing pressure (from the bank mostly) with a lot of soft plastics and crank baits thrown. I make a habit of looking in the trash cans located around the pond to see what other folks are throwing (used plastics and brand new lure packaging). Usually there are alot of dark and natural colors being used. I try to throw something bright and as un-natural looking as possible. I don't catch a ton of fish but I usually reel in five to ten every time I go. I think that the fish get conditioned to seeing the same natural colors all the time and they feed on something that looks a little different. Sometimes it pays to "go against the grain"!
  18. If you are practicing catch and release, why not squeeze the barb of the hook down so that it makes the removal of the hook much easier. I do this at one of the lake I fish. I am very surprised that more tackle makers don't make barbless hooks for bassin folks. As much as catch and release is preached about in the fishing world why not use a barbless hook!

  20. "I"m crazy 'bout a Mercury"!!
  21. Going to be at my local pond at 0500 in the morning. Just taking a couple of different color trick baits to try a few different techniques I'm practicing at. I've always been an "early to bed, early to rise" type of person. Love seeing the sun come up!
  22. I take a long cargo bungee cord and loop one hook end around the handle at the reel. I take the other hook end and loop it through a rod guide . I the wear the it like a rifle sling with the top of the rod behind my left shoulder since I throw with my right hand. It always pays to have an extra rod and reel when wading a couple of miles down a creek.
  23. I used a white ZOOM trick worm this morning with a 3/0 Eagle Claw offset hook. Caught three bass over 1 pound in about 45 minutes. The way I fish it is a walk-the-dog fashion that has the worm an inch or two under the surface. I love watching it work its magic back to my rod!
  24. I have a couple of the Falcon Boxes (spinnerbait and jig boxes). I was at Bass Pro a couple of weeks ago and pick up the BP double-sided topwater box. I don't care for it. The latches are too loose and fall down all the time. You have to hold them up with your fingers as you close the box or they hit on top of the latching part. Falcon is the way to go.
