  1. A local hunting and fishing store has Revo STX's for sale for $169.99 ( only the 6.4:1). I know everyone who has one one seems to love it. My question is this: do you think this deal is too good to pass up or should I wait for the new Curado? I know this is tough to answer since no one has fished the Curado, but I would appreciate any opinions you can give to help me make a decision.
  2. My oldest son ( 18 years old) joined the local volunteer fire department several months ago. Due to low turnover, he was a member, but did not get any gear. At times he was discouraged but he stuck with it. Well he got his gear last week, and last night we had a very large fire where an old house burned to the ground. The house was abandoned, and no one was hurt, but it was right next to a lot of retail and restaurants and it has been extremely dry here. The fire was so big you could see it from miles away. Definitely the biggest fire this area has seen in years He actually got to go into the fire with a hose so he was pumped. He is also working 60+ hours a week as an ambulance driver and will start his first year at Clemson University on a full Army ROTC scholarship. In what little free time he has, he loves to hunt and fish. I hope it doesn't sound like I'm bragging, I'm just proud of him and wanted to share it with y'all. It's so easy for kids to get mixed up in all kinds of trouble, and I'm convinced that hunting and fishing helps point kids in the right direction.
  3. Welcome to the forums! Baits I would recommend: Senko, Sweet Beaver, Zoom Horny toad. Fat Ika, Zoom Super Fluke and rage tail shad. If your tryng to keep it simple use natural and dark colors ( watermellon, green pumpkin, black etc.). I think you could fish anywhere anytime with these baits and catch fish. Also, the soft plastics will let you get away with one all purpose 6'6"-7' MH rod If you don't have any electronics, stay near shore and look for obvious structure - Laydowns, rock, stumps, docks - things you can see that serve as structure for bass. Good Luck!
  4. YEA ESPECIALLY WITH WIGGLE RIGS AND SHAKY HEADS That was way too easy! Kind of like hitting a home run in batting practice. ;D
  5. Another vote for Crucial. Very nice rods. I spent a lot of time comparing and really feel like these are the best bang for the buck.
  6. It seems to be so far. They do have Thursday night Tournaments which I've thought about entering just to see how other people do on the lake. My son loves to fish. He got me into bass fishing this year and we have a great time fishing together. Growing up in West Palm Beach, I did a lot more salt water fishing. So far bass fishing has been pretty humbling for me ( I thought Snook were tough).
  7. Welcome to the forums.
  8. Welcome to the forums.
  9. Very funny guy. Definitely a sad loss. :'(
  10. My son and I fished a lake last night that we have only fished once before. The lake is more like a river and it is very shallow and the bottom is all silt. It is very different than where we usually fish, but its fun to learn something new (its also a lot closer to home). I got skunked using a black and blue spinnerbait, a red eye shad, sweet beaver and a cavitron buzzbait. My son caught the fish in the picture on a crankbait. He also lost one about the same size on a beaver. I was really glad he caught this fish.
  11. 6'-10" Sturgeon caught in the Rogue River in Oregon
  12. Some kind of beavertail creature ( Reaction Innovations Sweet Beaver, Bass Assassin Eager Beaver). A few Cavitron Buzzbaits ( I firmly believe there is a big difference between these and other buzzbaits). That and maybe some shakey heads or spot removers. These are things that have worked well for me and if they work for me, they'll work for anyone! ;D Give up on trying to stop buying baits before you're broke. The baitmonkey won't stand for it. Just give in and buy everything you like - its easier that way. I've started from scratch this spring also and I'd probably get sick if I had to list out everything I've bought ( especially when I find myself using the same go to baits most of the time).
  13. Its called a thermocel. I use them when I hunt in the lowcountry. They work great. It uses a small gas cartridge to fuel a burner which warms a pad with insect repellant. Once you turn it on you just set it down next to you. Keep up the S FLA fishing stories. I grew up in WPB and its fun hearing about how ya'll are doing on lakes I fished as a kid.
  14. Sounds like a good day to me. Senkos are tough to beat.
  15. Its always fun to catch something different. Nice fish!
  16. This looks like the perfect rod. Who have you had luck ordering them from? The nearest dealer is 1-1/2 hours away so I will probably have to order online. Also, would 65# power pro be too heavy? Thanks
  17. And bears - ban them too. They eat trout!
  18. Can't wait to watch it - I've got it TIVO'd.
  19. I voted baitcaster. I could throw finesse baits on a baitcaster if I had to, but wouldn't want to fish deep cranks, large spinnerbaits, buzzbaits 1/2 oz jigs ( the list goes on and on) with a spinning outfit. I wouldn't want to get rid of my spinning reels, but they do only fill certain roles for me.
  20. to the Forums.
  21. I am looking for a rod to handle the heavy stuff. I am looking for something 7-to 7-6 MH or H that I can use for flipping, pitching, frogs and heavy jigs and maybe even some small to medium swimbaits. The cover on the lakes I usually fish is docks, brushpiles and laydowns (no matted vegetation). I'm partial to Shimano rods but I'm open to anything. Looking in the $130-$200 range. I am planning to put a Curado E on it (when they are available) with power pro 65 ( welcome any suggestions on line as well). I may go a little more expensive on the rod and get a Citica instead of a Curado. My current baitcasting rods are a Clarus 6'10" MHF, Crucial 7' MXF and Crucial 7' M Crankbait. I need something that covers what these don't. Any Suggestions?
  22. x2. Bought my son a Stoeger auto from Dicks for Christmas and I wish I had bought him an 1100 (he wanted the Stoeger - not my idea).
  23. If you only have $15 to spend then find the best $15 reel you can find. There is nothing wrong with using less expensive equipment. However, just like money, time is limited as well. I have a demanding job and 3 kids so I don't get to fish nearly as much as I'd like to. This is one of the main reasons I buy better equipment. I only get to fish 2 or 3 times a month so I can't afford to mess with unreliable equipment. My stuff has to work so I can enjoy my limited fishing time. If you use inexpensive equipment and have fun then more power to you. One thing I would caution you against is the more is better mentality. You would be better off with onequality mid range spinning combo ( a Saros 2500 and a Compre for example) instead of having 5 $40 combos IMHO. My dad always told me a cheap tool is an expensive tool and I think that applies to rods and reels as well.
  24. I wonder if the rich Sheik is concerned about what the people who work at the airport think about him?
  25. Sure does! It even has sesame seeds on the bun. ;D
