Do you carry multiple rods for the same tehcnique?
My rig is not equipped with FFS. Probably never will be. I am not familiar with how Mr Zaldain fishes jerkbait, but I'm not interested in it either. Beauty of the sport is we all get to fish the way we want. If folks want to copy other folks, that's great. I don't do that and I catch a few on jerkbaits sometimes. A-Jay

Pretty sure Scuppy McScuppersen had to hang it up as well. He couldn't read his FFS screens and just never could get glasses big enough Such a shame really. A-Jay

Do you carry multiple rods for the same tehcnique?
For the jerkbait deal, different rigs & baits represent the ability to present baits of different sizes, shapes/profiles, colors/patterns, sounds and running depths, where I need to. I rarely ever chose to 'dial it in'. I will almost always try a few different (usually proven ) baits in the same area. IMO, every fish is it's own creature and has likes and dislikes - like people. No pizza shop sells just peperoni pies. A-Jay

South east Vacation/retirement locations
@casts_by_fly a year or two before you 'buy' ~ Perhaps rent a place near where you think you might like to settle down. Learn the area. Probably won't be long before you know if it's the right place or not. Don't forget to think about what the two of you might need 10-20 years from now. The relative distance from family needs always seems to increase as we age. Also if you folks think a place in "Nice" you'll probably have plenty of company. Could be Good, might not be so good. Good Luck. BTW - Northern Michigan is a Horrible place to live and I think it's actually closed now. j/k A-Jay

Do you know any fishermen who have strict rules they think smallmouth always follow? Take a look at some of my buddy’s, curious what you all think 😆
Do you know any fishermen who have strict rules ? Yes ~ Me. But I have just ONE rule. Location, Timing, Presentation and Persistence Matter. That is All. A-Jay

Peak bassing?
Staying as healthy and fit as you can NOW as well as later, can pay off down the road. We need the the whole package to be balanced so when we do "have the time" we can benefit and actually use what we've learned. And then share it with younger folks, who for some reason, often seem unable or unwilling to listen. Hence the saying, youth is wasted on the young. Get off my lawn. A-Jay

BROWN BASS TOOLS ~ Questions & Answers
Location, Timing, Presentation & Persistence ~ Started over 6 years ago, there's quite a bit about "The Big Four" in this thread. Growing up in New England, a 4 lb smallie was the standard for a big fish. After settling in up here, 4's became fairly common place. And so 5 lb fish became the new target. Well, as crazy as this seems, 5 lb fish, while not exactly common place, didn't have that wild appeal once I bumped into a few over 6 lb. and bigger. At Present and for the last 6 years, 6 lbs has been and will probably for the foreseeable future, be the standard for a True Trophy Brown Bass. Still a wildly rare fish which makes them even more desirable to me. I went back through the achieves and put this clip of trophy 6's + together. Needed to, it helps get me through the hard water season, that hasn't even started yet ! Fish Hard A-Jay

Peak bassing?
Being at my Peak in bass fishing, guess it may depend on how we define Peak. If it's centered around making long drives and then the physical ability to be & stay on the water for long periods of time, then I'm a bit past that. If it's based on knowledge & experience, I am clearly a work in progress. Either way, it's been quite a ride so far with plenty of ups & downs. Admittedly far more downs, but when a trophy class brown bass of over six pounds is the goal, it's part of the game. The satisfaction of putting it all together a few times a year and holding a fish few bassheads ever even see, is overwhelmingly satisfying. Location, Timing, Presentation and boat Loads of dogged Persistence, always ends up being worth it. I've still got plenty to learn and if I can keep myself in shape I'll stay at it as long as I can. Fish Hard. https://youtu.be/l4JGH21R93Q A-Jay

How important do you find sensitivity in your rod for bottom contact baits etc.
I'd say we're all just a little bit different in this one. Just about any decent quality stick can get the job done for me. And that doesn't mean super high end IMO either. However I do believe that there are 2 more elements to this at least for me, that help to improve confidence that I can detect most bites. (I'll never get them all) One is having balance tackle; rod, reel, line & lure. I'm not over the top with this but it's a part of my preparation for sure. The other is, well, experience. Experience on the water, in the conditions I'm faced with and of course, the specific tackle I'm using. An example would be sliding a bait along the bottom in flat calm water vs rock'in & rolling in 2 footers with a 15-20 kts wind. A $700 wand will probably not make or break that second deal. Lake Menderchuck 2024 ~ Year in Review (video)
Thank you Sir ~ I appreciate it. I'm thinking about doing another clips that covers some real fat fish. Something that includes just SMB of six pounds or more since my first full year fishing from the Lund. But it's a long winter I've got time. A-Jay
