  1. Thanks, me too ~ Yes most of the sticks sporting full cork are new. Just never really liked split grips; especially EVA Foam. And although I still have a few, with the whatever time I have left on the water, I am choosing to fish mostly what I like. So for the 2024 late summer/fall run there's been a few changes in both my casting & spinning gear. Replaced / rehomed some (but not all) of the gear that had a few miles on it , with some new stuff. Not sure the bass care, but I do. Most notable changes are Quantum rods & reels have been replaced by Daiwa Tatula MQ LT 3000 Spinning Reels, Daiwa DX Type-H Glass Reaction Casting Rods 7'3" Heavy, Daiwa Tatula Elite 100 Casting Reels, Shimano Bantam MGL A 150 Casting Reels and the St. Croix Avid line of rods is represented here as well. Both spinning & casting. https://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/211811-brown-bass-tools-~-questions-answers/?do=findComment&comment=3094040 A-Jay
  2. That is A very Impressive list and a dream year for any basshead. Heck, I would be so happy if that were my LIFETIME stats ! But we didn't count 5 and 6 lb fish. There were just too many. Finally, I'm thinking you didn’t have a GUIDE. Nicely Done. A-Jay
  3. No doubt it was not something that I could EVER expect to happen again. But Man, we are so glad we ran the Go Pro's - Because who would believe such insanity ? We still don't believe it ourselves and we were there ! When you complain about catching 'so many 6lb fish' and actual move spots to get away from them, something special is going on. A-Jay
  4. Do you generally find Daiwa’s reels to be of inferior craftsmanship when compared to Shimano? Recently made a decent investment in both. So that would be a hard No for me. A-Jay
  5. Lake Baccarac Oct 2018 ~ The big fish God's where good to us. The final count for our 6 ½ days (approx. 65 hours) for two guys fishing on Lake Baccarac: Over 7lbs ~ 20 Over 8lbs ~ 16 Over 9lbs ~ 11 Over 10 lbs ~ 4 Over 11 lbs ~ 1 Over 12 lbs ~ 1 So that’s 53 bass over 7 and of those, when we figured in all the exact pounds & ounces, the average fish was right at 8 ½ pounds. It’s also one score-able bass every 73 and a half minutes. Big Fish Jeff's biggest 5 of the trip were: 12.23(a PB), 10.58, 10.22, 9.96, 9.61 = 52 lbs 9.6 ounces My biggest 5 of the trip were: 11.30, 10.22, 10.14, 9.83, 9.28 = 50 lbs 12.3 ounces. https://youtu.be/UYTzJHDCdMo?feature=shared A-Jay Jeff's phone, he kept the daily stats on the water
  6. Past few seasons, from mid August thru mid September, the chances of bumping into a few plus size brown bass have been pretty good. So I'm usually chomping at the bit to get out on some of the bigger lakes here. Certainly doesn't hurt that most all of my most productive presentations are either topwater or horizontal moving baits, which makes be very happy. This year however, my opportunities to get out on to Lake Menderchuck consistently (which has proven to be fairly important) are going to be severely limited. So I'll need to make The Most out of any & all trips I can make. I'm feeling up to the challenge. Additionally, my 'Brown Bass Tools' (specifically some Rods & Reels) have been revamped a bit. Last season and as well as the previous two, my deal looked like this : https://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/211811-brown-bass-tools-~-questions-answers/?do=findComment&comment=2996398 But for the 2024 late summer/fall run there's been a few changes in both my casting & spinning gear. Replaced / rehomed some (but not all) of the gear that had a few miles on it , with some new stuff. Not sure the bass care, but I do. Both spinning & casting I expect the presentations/baits to pretty much remain the same. Falls under the category of if it ain't broke, don't fix it. This should cover it, at least to start. Finally, Feels like I haven't been on the water in so long that my Mojo is playing hide & seek. Posting this kind of stuff helps get the juices flowing again. Fish Hard A-Jay
  7. So much good info in this one. I'll add a couple of things from my experience fighting brown bass in warmer water, which is when they seem to go airborne the most. First I am very will to invest in quality after market and usually upsized hooks, both single & treble hooks. Second, there's almost nothing I can ever really do, that will prevent or discourage a 5 or 6 lb smallie from jumping, especially out on the end of a long cast. Decades ago, I started doing the 'bow to fish and drop the rod' when it jumps deal. And to be honest, it's just instinct now and I always do it (video doesn't lie). But I Do Not feel it has ever actually contributed to me actually landing a fish. In the end, I try to have the right gear and just keep enough pressure on the fish to hopefully keep it pinned. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it does not. I hate losing fish, but having them throw the bait is just part of it. Not really the good part. This one got some big air a few times. https://youtu.be/QB1VOTaQuvE?feature=shared&t=101 A-Jay
  8. This can be a little tricky ~ A-Jay
  9. Seems to be a bit of technical difficulties at least at the start of today's broadcast. Specifically the audio is jacked up. Sounds like some of my video handy work. Hope they fix it. Sort of cringy to listen to. 🙃 A-Jay
  10. I'm a fan. A-Jay
  11. Completed another mid day session. Workout Day 1 always requires a good bit of focus & effort. #borninfiftynine https://youtu.be/Qa4cwm6bOik?feature=shared A-Jay
  12. I hear you ~ In my mind, I'll Never Fall over the side. I'll Never get throw out of my driver seat to such an extent that I would need the ignition kill switch to deenergize my motor. I'll never get caught out in big water that could endanger me and my vessel. I'll never take on so much water that my hull would fill up. Finally, I'll NEVER HIT ANYTHING. And Yet . . . I wear a life Jacket. I use a kill switch lanyard. Have an installed & automatic bilge pump that I meticulously maintain. (should really have 2). I carry flares, day smoke, a suitable anchor with 175 ft of crazy strong anchor line and finally a Buoyant Personal Locator Beacon with GPS. And so I feel OK adding the leash. A-Jay
  13. Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ I am a spinnerbait user & abuser, especially the next several weeks. The local brown bass population here seems very receptive to a fast moving bait burned across a big flat. The SK Buner and Megabass V9 Double Willow have both been good for this. https://youtu.be/Z95g3H4qmp0?feature=shared&t=84 https://youtu.be/NpVmd8ll1Dg?feature=shared&t=169 A-Jay
  14. Thanks. I appreciate the support and I will certainly reach out if I need to. Probably do a separate install thread just because it might help a few bassheads. A-Jay
  15. Thanks I got Silver for the ProXS as well. I have a 6 inch manual jack plate but don't expect that to be a problem as long as the installed bolts are long enough to accommodate the Leach plate included with the kit. Here we go. A-Jay
  16. Nice ~ Has to be the first Great Garbo reference I've seen here. She was really something. For a good 10 years preceding the Purchase of the Pro-V bass boat, I was strictly a canoe guy. Much of the best places included at least some type of portage, the longer and steeper the better. The Old Town comes in at a robust 120lbs without any gear, I will not admit to what I've loaded into it, but it's significant is it's heft. Had to upgrade my boat cart to accommodate such ambitiousness. But what's not to love ? Eagles, Loons, the sheer serenity of having the entire lake to oneself is almost spiritual. Had my wife with me a good bit of the time the first several years, except at night. (which is totally and far more intense deal, but still awesome). We had a ton of fun regardless of the fishing, but we did and I still do, catch a few. https://youtu.be/r3vHcCGTNTQ?feature=shared&t=150 A-Jay
  17. Thank you very much @Glenn For taking the time to respond here. I've been on the fence about this deal for a while. Well the waffling is over for me. I feel better already. Should be here and installed in less than a week. Just like my life jacket, ignition kill lanyard and PLM, Hope we never need it. thanks again A-Jay
  18. Good for you and to each his own. It's not the act itself that rubs me the wrong way, but the ricochet off the wind screen, followed by the bounce off the front carpet, ending with the slime removing brake dance the bass does after it's kicked into the cockpit area so that it doesn't go over the side if and when it comes unbuttoned, that just seems wildly unprofessional. So fish care then. A-Jay
  19. I hate it when that happens ~ 🤓 A-Jay
  20. Thanks. In the gym maybe, but not on the water fishing that format. I get to fish when and where I want. Changes things. I'd like to Marshall a contender on the last day though. First dude who boat flips a 6 lber, is going swimming. A-Jay
  21. Randy B will surely let's us all know if it is. 😎 A-Jay
  22. A-Jay replied to Rev Ron's topic in Fishing Tackle
Hello Ron and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ Decent chance most any rattle (I like Glass) will do the job as long as it fits INTO the bait. After inserting a rattle, I'll slide in a custom cut to fit section of a foam ear plug to hold the rattle in place. Soaking the foam in your favorite 'scent' might help too. I use Megastrike. Good Luck A-Jay
  23. I hear ya ~ Not really expecting anyone to have had a motor in their lap. Just looking to hear from any users and perhaps believers of this product. There's enough 'sponsored' opinions out there. But if we know anything about this BR forum, it's that eventually, the truth almost always comes out. A-Jay
  24. Does anybody have first hand experience with this deal ? Did you complete the install yourself ? Does your rig have a Jack Plate ? Does the unit itself wear away at the motor where it makes contact ? Can someone hook a brother up ? A-Jay
  25. Got a little bit of a late start but still managed to knock out Workout Day 5. #borninfiftynine A-Jay
