Just Ordered a Set of Boat Trailer Steps ~
After spraining my knee recently putting my rig on the trailer, I needed another plan. Pretty sure this is the second time I've managed to do this in three years. Regardless of how 'spry' I might think I am, my knee ligaments are telling me otherwise. So before I totally wipe myself out climbing over the bow like a spider money, I swallowed my pride and placed an order. After plenty of R&D the past week or so, I went with BoatEFX Trailer Step. https://boatefx.com/ They have the mounting 'position & design' I preferred, additionally I shouldn't have to relocate anything on the trailer prior to the Step installation. (spare tire or trailer jack wheel assembly) But I will if it's called for. The price was 'competitive', I received a military discount which is Always appreciated and I enjoy supporting small business. I'll do some follow up here with before & after installation pics/video. As well as a post use, on the water/at the ramp review, when the opportunity presents itself. Finally, I have to admit, I wish I had made this move before I 'needed' to, but when it comes to this type of deal, I just don't think that way. At this point, I probably should start. More to follow. A-Jay

Coffee Cake on Quabbin, 5/19/23
Nicely Done Sir ~ The Q is such a different animal. You're earning every bite, and I know you know what I mean. Most certainly an acquired taste. Unlike that killer coffee cake I bet. Congrats on another special trip. A-Jay

What is the Point of Rod Sleeves/Socks?
I take care of my tackle best I can. Stick Jackets are an important part of that. Highly recommended A-Jay

36 Fortrex steering funny.
Been running a 112 Fortrex on a 62 " shaft for a while now. Any setting above say 7 up to the max 10, the straight line speed is impressive. However foot pedal 'steering' in virtually impossible without backing off on the juice. Been that way since day 1. Not a 'problem' for me as I rarely use my trolling motor to travel any 'distance' and if I do, I'm not in a hurry. Otherwise that TM motor is a rock star. YMMV A-Jay

Comfortable boat footwear?
Not sure if you'd enjoy running any distance in the ones I use (and posted up). Very good chance that they could 'change' your running gate in a negative manner. I'd look for something 'thinner' or less intrusive. Basically just a thin pad or a heel 'cup'. Finally, and I bet you know this, but if not, running shoes have a relatively short 'life span'. So if you're a prolific runner and not replacing them every few months, I'd start there. 20-30 miles to a non-runner sounds like a lot. But to 'runners' it's par for the course. I did it many years. My wife was a marathoner - we went through some shoes. A-Jay

Working to Stay Lean ~
After 3 weeks to the day, I’m able to move my knee through its normal full range of motion, mostly pain free. First trip back into the home gym this morning, however this was clearly almost completely a REHAB (and not a ‘workout’) at this point. No training means no appetite for me, so I’ve probably lost a few pounds. Expect the process to reverse itself and get me back to my fighting weight. Which on my best days, is in the middleweight class. (And it’s a battle to keep that for this old guy). First day back is always a mix of tempered excitement and a reality check. This was that. Planning on an every other day deal if the knee 'responds' well. A-Jay

No Tolerance
While we're on the subject and it is the season in many areas now . . . . Most dog owners know that you can’t leave a pet in a hot car. Temperatures can rise to dangerous levels in just minutes, putting your dog at risk of heat stroke. But what if you open a window a little bit? Does that make it safe to leave your dog in the car? The answer is simple: You should NEVER leave a dog alone in the car, even with the windows cracked. In some states, it’s even illegal. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), studies have shown that cracking a window changes these figures very little. A parked car with the windows cracked heats up at almost the exact same rate as a car with the windows rolled up, putting pets in serious danger. All dogs are susceptible to heat stroke. Heat intolerant brachycephalic breeds (dogs that have a relatively broad, short skull), such as Pugs and Bulldogs, however, could suffer negative effects sooner than other breeds. If you know you’ll be on the road with your dog, make plans to travel with another adult who can remain in the vehicle with him while the air conditioner is running. This will keep him safe, and it will also reduce the risk of your dog jumping out of an open window at a rest stop or in a parking lot. Hundreds of pets die from car-related heat stroke each year. The issue is so important that 28 states have laws restricting people from leaving their pets unattended in vehicles. Some laws ban the practice outright, while others protect law enforcement officers and citizens if they break into cars to rescue pets. I live in one thankfully. Please don't cook your pet and call the authorities if & when you see it happening. A-Jay

Comfortable boat footwear?
I wore those for a while in the canoe, totally comfy. And the tiger like striped tan lines on the top of each foot at the end of the summer were especially interesting. #alienfoot A-Jay

Comfortable boat footwear?
Most any type of light athletic foot wear can work. A runners or light hiker's shoe might be a good option. I wear a 'boot' type deal is cooler weather and a Huk brand fishing shoe in warmer weather, because that's what I do. However something that has really helped me endure the rigors of standing on that front deck for hours on end, (I never sit & fish) is I've place an orthotic insole in all my fishing footwear. Seems a little weird at first but in the long run it really seems to help. I do not have any 'foot' problems, simply enjoy the extra cushioning and arch support they offer. There are a million different ones. I prefer the 3/4 length as they do not crowd my toes in my shoe. Tried a few, settled on these and they can go in almost anything. (except maybe Crocs & Flip Flops) https://www.walmart.com/ip/Airplus-Plantar-Fascia-Insole-for-support-and-comfort-Men-s-size-7-12/33887307?adsRedirect=true A-Jay

Road trip prep
Looks like you've done your homework. I'll add one thing and this comes from experience and is in the redundancy category. Ensure your trailer tire repair kit includes a few 'extra' trailer tire wheel lug nuts and that whatever tool you're using to remove said lug nuts actual fits them. Good Luck, safe travels and hope to enjoy Pure Michigan. I do. A-Jay

Fostering Sasha ~ again.
At this point it's hard to tell who's having a better time with this deal. Sasha or us. Huskies are known to have parti-colored eyes. This is when a single eye has two different colors, for instance, a combination of blue and brown, which is often blended near the side of the eye. Can really see that in this shot. A-Jay

Plenty of outstanding forum member choices on this one. Both past & present. It's sort of a toss up for me. I'm throwing it back a little and going with @everythingthatswims and @Fish Chris Neither have been active here for a bit, but when it comes to catching fish, I like their style. A-Jay

Any interest in trapping?
What works for us ~ Try to use the animals keen sense of smell against them. Don't handle traps with your bare hands, wear gloves. Leave traps outside when not in use. "Fresh" runs are key. Flatten old ones and hit them when they first come up. Post rain is money as the ground is soft and they often move. Clearly we are rookies & not "Professionals". @TnRiver46 is probably laughing at this stuff, but we gotta go with what gets the job done. Never got any until we did. Happy Hunting A-Jay

National Safe Boating Week ~
Started on Saturday and runs from May 20-26, 2023. This observance week is the annual kick-off of the Safe Boating Campaign, a global awareness effort that encourages boaters to make the most of their boating adventure by being responsible. With the number of boating accident and loss of life threads seen on this forum alone the past year, tragically it seems like the numbers are heading in the wrong direction. Here's to a safe boating season. A-Jay

favorite Popper
When it comes to poppers, seems each of us topwater freaks has a favorite. Megabass Pop Max is mine. While I have a few SK & yellow Magic, the POP Max get far more use. Because it works, Both locally & in Mexico for me. https://youtu.be/sITpRNLz_04?t=417 @king fisher , considering where you will be throwing these, I would highly recommend changing out the hardware & the hooks; especially that tail hook. Been on a bit of a tear lately. The Wire Tek 1001 Easy Set Mole Eliminator doing work. We run 4 different traps and rotate them to the active areas a few times a day. Pays off. A-Jay
