Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
It's been hit & miss for me too. Had an order that arrived at a USPS office from a vendor on 17 NOV and I got it last week. Another one was initially shipped on 17 Dec - got that one today ! Must be something about the 17th . . . . Decent chance TW is getting a fair amount of Stimulus business. But if you use it to buy baby chickens You'll get your money for nothing and your chicks for free ! ? A-Jay

We are still sort of hanging in this strangely unfamiliar late fall-ish pattern. Perhaps soon we'll slide right into into a couple of months of early spring and miss 'winter' all together. 100 Days & a Wake up ~ A-Jay

Tips For Reducing "Wind Knots" With Light Braid ?
Wind knots seem to be a product of line twist for me. Fishing presentations like a Drop Shot all day can be a giant PIA. Ensuring that my bait is rigged STRAIGHT is Critical. If my rig 'spins' At All, even on the drop but especially on the retrieve, at some point there's going to be cursing. So I do this - it really helps. Make 'Untwisting' your line part of your routine. The process is simple. If you're in any thing that floats, allow 2 or 3 cast lengths of line out behind your rig as you slowly move along. Hold the length for a 30 seconds or so to allow the the line to straighten out and then reel it back in under sufficient tension to get a smooth & snug lay back on the spool. Doing this when moving to a new spot can be a timely maneuver. If there is no vessel involved, the process can (and should be) done on the beach. Just find an open area where you can perform the above deal and you're good to go. On trips where I didn't do it on the water, I'll run laps around the back forty to get this done. Can be the difference between having a productive day at the lake and the reason you started this thread. Two points of interest to ensure this ends up being helpful rather than adding to your problem. 1. Before letting out the line remove everything from the bitter end of braid - bait, and any terminal tackle ~ Run out JUST the braid. Otherwise you could be introducing More line twist. 2. When reeling the line back on the reel. MAKE SURE your drag is NOT Slipping against the weight of the line. If it does, you guessed it, more line twist. A-Jay

Mono Users: Green, Camo, or Clear?
I started using Green - well so long ago I don't actually remember when I started. Either way, at this point, it's just a confidence thing for me. 8, 10, 12 lb topwater & jerkbaits. A-Jay

More than meets the eye...
I'll offer 4 - that perhaps on the surface, could seem quite different from each other. However, that might not be the case. For me, it's an A-Rig, A Spy bait, A Hair Jig, & the Ned Rig. All presentations I do best with when they are fished in the middle of the water column. So it's ALL About Speed & depth control. With little to no bottom contact being made, it's often pretty tricky to find, maintain and repeat, the 'magic depth' & the 'perfect 'speed' to get bites. Especially before I find out where the bass are at and what they want. I've heard term 'hover through the water' column, used to describe what needs to happen with these baits, and I get it. It's just a challenge to duplicate and gear selection here can be critical. Finally, seems many bassheads present The Ned Rig as more of a 'bottom bait', and that will no doubt get plenty of bites. But I have a fairly wide selection of other baits/presentations that can & do the same. But very few, if any of those, will produce the same, mid-water magic, as a fairly light Ned Rig simply strolled along, well off the bottom. YMMV A-Jay

Mundy Catches 40-Pound Limit of Bass to Win Rayburn BFL
Now that's a pretty hefty sack ! Details Below . . . Derek Mundy of Broaddus, Texas, brought a five-bass limit to the scale Saturday weighing a staggering 40 pounds, 10 ounces to win the 2021 Phoenix Bass Fishing League presented by T-H Marine season opener at Sam Rayburn Reservoir in Brookeland, Texas. Mundy earned $7,000 for his victory. Mundy said he found his fish in practice but didn't realize just how good his spot was going to be. "You can't look on the graph and see 40 pounds, but I knew I could have a good bag if they bit," Mundy said. "It's not guaranteed you're going to roll up to your first spot and catch 30, much less 40. "I caught the first four on a big crankbait and they busted up a bit," Mundy said. "Then I pulled out a jig and caught the last one. I caught those five, all on the first stop, in about 20 minutes." Fishing a Strike King 8XD and a 3/4-ounce V&M The Flatline Pacemaker Football Jig, Mundy said he did all of his damage in about 17 feet of water, in the mid-lake region. After catching five giants, including a 11-pound, 10-ounce largemouth, Mundy said he felt he could relax. "I took it easy and went to some Plan B stuff to try to get my co-angler on fish, but it never worked out – the wind got up pretty bad in the afternoon," he admitted. Weighing his fish as soon as he was allowed, Mundy said he was content to wait for the weigh-in to conclude before collecting his check. "It's the biggest bag I've ever caught," said Mundy, who makes his living working on oil pipelines. "It felt good. I didn't realize they were that big until I was checking on them to make sure they were doing alright in the livewell, but even then, I didn't realize I had 40 pounds." The top 10 boaters finished the tournament as follows: 1st: Derek Mundy of Broaddus, Texas, five bass, 40-10, $7,000 2nd: Cameron Mattison of Bossier City, La., five bass, 28-6, $3,000 3rd: Tommy Loving of Cypress, Texas, five bass, 22-14, $2,000 4th: Wyatt Frankens of Corrigan, Texas, five bass, 17-11, $1,400 5th: Jimmy Hickman of Shreveport, La., five bass, 17-8, $1,200 6th: Cannon Bird of Marshall, Texas, five bass, 16–6, $1,100 7th: Chris McCall of Woodville, Texas, five bass, 15-15, $1,000 8th: Richard Ballard of Sulphur, La., five bass, 15-12, $1,400 9th: Dicky Newberry of Houston, Texas, five bass, 15-0, $800 10th: Bobby Vice of Orange, Texas, five bass, 14-11, $665 10th: Travis Franks of Lake Charles, La., five bass, 14–11, $665 A-Jay
