  4. I had the same problem pretty much a few days ago and the help I recieved proved very helpful, here is the link; http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1230363573/0#0 I hope it works for you as well as it did for me.
  5. I like using the Spro Bonzeye frog but if I had to choose of my favorites it would be the rage tail frog. It causes a lot of commotion on the surface and gets you strike when a hollow body frog would not normally. A hollow body works a lot better over a thin mat while a rage tail frog will make the noise that you would want over a heavy mat. I fish the Potomac River where the mats can get extremley thick and hard to punch through so I like to throw the rage tail frog and I have caught more fish that way. However if you are fishing right around thin mats, brush or lily oads I would suggest a Bonzeye frog. Hope my info helped you.
  6. This may be a stupid question, but I recently bought some of the garlic chartruese color and I tried it on one of my bait. So far it looks like a great product. But my question is: if you spill it on the boat does it stain the boat carpet? I just finished redoing my entire boat so that every inch of it is spotless. The last thing I want to do is be in a hurry in the middle of a tournament and spill some of this stuff on my carpet and ruin it. If anyone has spilled this product and it caused a lasting mark post a picture so that I can look at it.
  7. Welcome to the best site ever!!!
  8. I will be heading back out with-in the next couple of days as soon as I can get some free time.
  9. I have all of my fishing stuff in the garage, I built a 10' workbench and I added a vise for my baitmaking and I also cut little slits into the wood so I could stack all of my boxes sideways so I won't have all the weight on the boat if I take a few day off from fishing. I also cut a few places in the front of the bench where I could lay the poles when I want to work on them. I think it is kinda handy but right now that I am re-doing my boat the whole bench is covered with little parts.
  10. I support catch and release as most everyone on here does. But when push comes to shove a lot of us would say we would throw a fish like that back but in all reality most of us would keep it. I would have kept it just for the simple fact that I don't have enough money for a replica mount. I have not kept a fish but I always said that if I caught a fish over 13lbs that I would keep it to mount it. Just my 2 cents.

  12. 1. Fish slower; I am also trying to move way to fast for the fish 2. Learn more about jig fishing 3. Try new spots: I'm always using my usual hot spots 4. Learn how to control my boat better then I can now 5. Be more patient with the wife while she attempts to enjoy my sport 6. Start catching my limit on every tournament whether or not I win or make any money 7. Try to cope with the jerks that fish in the tournaments I fish in. 8. Learn more about fishing!!!!
  13. One thing I will add to this; when you first practice this method start with spinning gear!!!! If you don't you will become very angry and you will give up way to quickly. Once you have mastered the art with spinning tackle then move on to a baitcaster. I can tell you first hand I started out trying to skip with a baitcaster with expensive flouro line and I went through a lot of line that way. It was very frustrating for me for about 3 months. When you use a baitcaster, make sure you loosen up the magnetic brake. Make sure you are holding your rod down low to the water. I would advise you to start skipping with a senko with no weight, then upgrade to a weight, then try something different. I can pretty much skip any type of lure but a deep diving crankbait. but i am still attempting it. Good Luck to You!!
  14. Thanks for all the PMs and help I have ordered the book from amzon.com So hopefully it will help me out!
  15. I fish the Va side of the Potomac and I know exactly what you are talking about. I have not been out much this winter but last winter I was out almost every day last winter. This time of year you want to find a spot way up in a creek where the really shallow water meets a channel. In the summer I fish lilly pads that are very shallow but have a deeper channel running near it. The winter is not very different except that there are no lily pads, no grass but you are looking for any type of structure that is in the channel. When I speak of the channel I'm looking for a depth of 10'- 14' I have found many spots that have wood structure, hard bottom, large boulders and dead grass. That large rocks will soak up a lot of the sun's heat during the day and it will continue to stay warm throughout the night. I like to throw a deep diving bomber Fat A or any type of a large profile jig with a slow movement. Also this time of year I like to use a lot of scent to my soft plastics. If you fish anywhere near Quantico I could give you a lot of good winter/spring/summer and fall spots that would knock your socks off.
  16. I recently moved into a decent house with a huge garage for my boat and now that I have the garage the wife can't keep me in the house when I'm not working. I really want to begin to built my own baits, make dressed treble hooks, hard baits and soft plastics, and all kinds of stuff. Does anyone have a VERY EASY beginners type of a plan to start up my bait making projects? It could be anything. If you want to help me just send me an email (takintheheat7@yahoo.com), pm or post it here. Thanks in advance!!
  17. I have a Deep Cycle battery that will not hold a charge very well and I am pretty broke right now. I was wondering if anyone knows the procedure for recharging them with distilled water. I was told to fill the battery up with distilled water and then recharge it. I know that battery acid is extremly harmful and I was a little uneasy to try that. But if that is the proper procedure then I will attempt it. SO if anyone could shed somelight onto this subject it would help me out a lot! Thank You
  18. I will be heading down there for the expo. It will be my first fishing expo. So I hope it will teach me more then I already know. I look forward to seeing many of the Va members that I have not yet met and looking forward seeing the members I have already had the privilege of meeting and fishing with.
