  1. Catch a peacock bass on top water in the Amazon. I know, Bucket List....
  2. Hello @Kevin Tswb Yang, welcome to Bass Resource and the Forums! Kinda surprising you weren’t successful at Chabot, but Lake Elizabeth might be an option. Easy access to just walk around and chuck a spinnerbait if you’re looking to wet a line. I know at one time it held bass and crappie....
  3. Glad to see this, and look forward to it. My only issue is it’s on CBS All Access and have to pay to see it. HBO, Showtime, Netflix, Amazon Prime, the list goes on. Should be fun though...
  4. Sorry @reb67 to hear of this news. You have the whole BR communities support as you beat this...
  5. Congratulations @FryDog62 to Mrs FryDog on a couple of extremely solid fish! Looks like you may have found a ringer of a tournament partner. When I have asked Mrs B to go fishing, she’d replied “I landed the biggest fish of my life over 30 years ago, what more do I have to prove?” At that point what more can I say lol...
  6. Once again leaving the house at 0500, air temperature was 69 degrees and I was expecting a repeat of the previous days pattern. So I drop the boat in and decide to try a different bank, but it seemed the fish obviously had different ideas. Even though I caught a couple of decent fish on a popper and chatter bait, it was the primrose/hyacinth mats that looked like fun. So I go to work on the mats, catching a couple of small fish punching above their weight class. I drop back in and my rod loads up and I set the hook on a heavy fish, and then nothing. I reel in to find my bobber stopper was the only thing left on my line. After some excitable utterances over what just transpired, I commence to rerigging my punch set-up. I decided to try another area, and I made a pitch into the mat. My line jumps, my rod loads, and the rumble begins. I gotta say she felt much bigger due to the hook piercing the side of her mouth and promptly imbedding in a primrose vine. After welcoming her aboard, I was surprised she only weighed 2.9lbs and released her to fight another day...
  7. Glad to hear things are moving along @th365thli, every road has a few bumps in it. And I just wanted to say that was a nice read on your fishing trip to Clear Lake, glad you were able to fish it. If you haven’t already done so, when you have a free moment, maybe you could post it for others to enjoy your experiences. Safe travels and thanks in advance
  8. A view of Mt. Diablo from Frank’s Tract just before sunrise...
  9. I have both, and enjoy using them for different applications. @Johnpenguin, it’s kinda like asking Ford or Chevy, Toyota or Honda which boils down to personal preference. And I do own more Shimano if we’re keeping score. You can’t go wrong with either company’s products...
  10. Sorry @kroberts9 to hear about your experience. I have to say G. Loomis has a pretty good warranty. Powell Rods has a pretty interesting way of handling the warranty/shipping issue. 3 pics via email, the most difficult part for me was cutting the rod, damaged or not, in half. It just felt sacrilegious and I guess that’s what they were counting on. However getting the new rod was worth it. You think Phenix Rods might be willing to do something like that to help you out or even send you a prepaid shipping label. Wish you luck with getting your rod replaced.
  11. Hey @EliteTV, welcome to Bass Resource and the Forums! At your price point for cranking rods, IMO any of the well know brands make a rod that should do a fine job. Personally, I don’t put much stock in sensitivity when I’m chucking and winding. My belief is those rods are better suited for other techniques where sensitivity is more important. As for the Okuma brand, I have a few of the Okuma Reflections rods. My PB came on that model rod and I don’t think she cared at the time how much I spent. The blanks are good enough, but the guides are brittle. On the flip side, I did fish a guy who threw cranks and chatter baits on Loomis GLX’s... Find a rod you like, that’ll do what you want at a price you can live with and take it from there
  12. Yes he did! I’ve still have the Color-C-lector and a set of those colorful neon worms hidden in the garage somewhere ?
  13. If you’re in a market for a boat, and this one fills your bill, heck of a deal IMO. By the way, you might want to ask how’s the tires and wheel bearings...
  14. I use these as they came with my boat when I bought it. I use at least one when launching by myself. The only person who is going to care enough about what happens to your boat and how it looks is you. https://www.akuaboatfenders.com/shop/akua-bass-boat-fender
  15. ^^X2... Now @JediAmoeba since you did say your neighbor “offered” you the boat ‘cause you’re a great guy and all-around sportsman, heck yeah, go for it! Without seeing pictures, sounds like all you need to do is add water. In all seriousness, is it reasonably priced?
  16. Congratulations @Angealy on your new boat! Looks like at one time she was an experienced crappie fishing machine. Looking forward to seeing any plans you might have...
  17. Went out hoping to reproduce to previous days punch bite, leaving the house at 0500 and it was 65 degrees and barely a slight breeze, forecast high was in the upper 90’s. Tide was an hour later, water was around 73 degrees when I dropped the boat in and headed to my first spot looking forward to a little top water action. I didn’t get anything to commit on top, so I picked up a “bladed jig” and after several casts my bait just stopped. Man, what a great feeling when your rod loads up and the fight begins knowing it’s a good fish! She weighed 4.9lbs and my novice picture taking efforts didn’t do her justice. The chatter-bait was the ticket this morning and I decided to get off the water early before the afternoon heat set in...
  18. Hahaha thanks @A-Jay and no as a matter of they were a Strike King product ? which seemed to work just fine. However, I was impressed with the minimal effort I need using a Trokar hook as opposed to the Owner hooks I normally use. Not sure if “Googan” gets mentioned more because of a line of baits or on Wicked Tuna ?.
  19. They were chewing on the punch rig for me today, went through 2 bags of baits. Gotta love the sound of braid through the line guides on the hook set!
  20. Got this guy on camera the other night. Kinda surprising how nimble they are to matriculate the neighborhood on the fence tops.
